KENYA:
-ICT and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo vows to regulate social media.
-ICT and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo says his first task if confirmed would be to regulate social media.

Kabogo who spoke on Tuesday during his vetting at County Hall highlighted the dangers of misuse of the internet including an increase in pornographic content and hate speech among popular applications such as Facebook, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter).
He regretted the existing freedom by some of the owners of the social apps in the country which he said was now affecting children due to a lack of laws limiting access to such explicit content.
-“On the issue of hate speech and harmful content, this is a matter of every country having its own regulations. It is true that when you look at TikTok, Facebook, and X, you will find all sorts of po*******hy even available to children. This is a situation where our regulator should be able to engage these pro-writers or the owners of these apps to know how they can be regulated,” he said.

Israeli minister Ben-Gvir threatens to quit Netanyahu cabinet over Gaza deal.
-Israeli far-right police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir threatened on Tuesday to quit Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government if he agrees to a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal being negotiated at talks in Qatar.
Ben-Gvir, whose departure would not bring down Netanyahu's government, urged Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to join him in a last-ditch attempt to prevent a ceasefire deal, which he described as a dangerous capitulation to Hamas.
"This move is our only chance to prevent (the deal's) ex*****on, and prevent Israel's surrender to Hamas, after more than a year of bloody war, in which more than 400 IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers fell in the Gaza Strip, and to ensure that their deaths are not in vain," Ben-Gvir said on X.

Kiiza Besigye hit with extra charge carrying death penalty.
-Ugandan military prosecutors on Monday added a charge of "treachery" - which carries the death penalty - to the list of violations of military law they say were committed by a prominent opposition figure.
Kiiza Besigye, a veteran political foe of President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for almost 40 years, was detained in neighbouring Kenya in November.
He was brought back home and charged with illegal possession of fi****ms and with undermining the East African country's security in a military court, despite being a civilian.
-He has been kept in prison in the capital Kampala since then, together with an aide, Obeid Lutale, with whom he was detained and charged.
-At Besigye's last court appearance on Jan. 7, Kiiza was sentenced to nine months in prison for alleged contempt of court over an altercation with court orderlies.
London-based human rights group Amnesty International has described Kiiza's detention and jail sentence as outrageous, demanding his release.

KENYA
'Apologise or be impeached!' MP Osoro tells CS Muturi over abduction stance.
-Kenya Kwanza Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro has announced plans to impeach Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of blackmailing the government over the rising cases of abductions in the country.
Speaking during an education function at Nyamarambe Grounds in South Mugirango, Osoro criticized Muturi for publicly faulting the government instead of addressing the issue directly with President William Ruto in Cabinet meetings.
Osoro outlined three options for Muturi: resign, issue a public apology, or face impeachment when Parliament resumes.
-The remarks come days after Muturi called for urgent action to tackle the alarming rise in abductions, which he claims have eroded public trust in Kenya’s security apparatus.
-Muturi further criticized the government's silence, urging security agencies to provide data on the number of youths abducted, those released, and those still missing.

KENYA: Muturi Drops Bombshell
CS Muturi - NIS boss Haji abducted my son, released him after call from President Ruto.
-Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has opened the Pandora's box in a damning revelation of how his son, Leslie Muturi, was allegedly abducted and released by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers following an order by President William Ruto.
In a statement to police recorded on Tuesday, the CS gave a detailed account of how his son was kidnapped on June 22, 2024, by armed hooded gangsters along Dennis Pritt Road.
CS Muturi recalled calling then Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who promised to look into the matter.
His efforts to contact the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin and NIS Director General Noordin Haji were futile as his calls went unanswered.
"Just before 1:00 pm, I decided to call Prof. Kindiki, then Interior CS. After explaining the entire situation, he expressed shock and assured me he would contact Noordin Haji," the CS noted in the statement.
"15 minutes later, Prof. Kindiki called back saying he had spoken with the DG of NIS, who denied holding Leslie. Despite my insistence that I had confirmed information from an NIS officer, Prof. Kindiki maintained that the DG could not be lying."
The CS went ahead to state that he then decided to physically visit State House to prompt the President to act over the matter.
-"The President joked, asking why anyone would want to arrest a young person over the Gen Z demonstrations. He even mentioned that (MP Mwangi) Kiunjuri's son and the sons of other officials had been involved in similar demonstrations," he noted.
Ruto, who acknowledged that his phone had jammed for receiving an overload of messages, called Haji after Muturi's request.
-"Standing outside the pavilion, I heard the President ask Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed, that indeed he was holding my son and the President instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour," the CS added.
-Muturi acknowledged that his son was afterwards indeed released and went home.

-Maina Njenga, a former leader of the Mungiki group has dismissed claims that he is President William Ruto’s new point man in the central region of Kenya.

Njenga returned to the headlines after impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, raising speculations that he is poised to tackle Gachagua and steer the vote-rich region in favour of President William Ruto.
-“He (Gachagua) wants to take me to The Hague yet he is toothless. That is just yapping,” Njenga stated.
“I have been a victim of abduction, I was taken in for 7 days when planning Raila-led protests. I was taken with hooded men just before dinner, driven for 300 kilometres. It is not a good thing, the government should stop it,” he stated.

If you believe Kenya is a bad country, leave! – Elachi tells Ruto critics.
-Leaders in support of President William Ruto have continued to dismiss his critics, putting an all out war on social media users who have lost faith in the Head of State.
On Sunday, Ruto attended a church service in Dagoretti North, where legislators took to the pulpit to condemn the President’s critics.
-Here, Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi castigated those ‘disrespecting the Head of State’, even insulting him in churches.
-“We must respect the president; he is our father. When you go abroad they wonder which country we come from,” Elachi said.
“Those coming (foreigners) say Kenya is a good country…. but Kenyans are there complaining and not going away. If Kenya is bad why not leave, what are you doing here at a bad place, disappear. If you can not leave then know this is your country and there is no where else you can go,” Elachi stated.
