Wiper Party endorses Kalonzo Musyoka as 2027 Presidential Candidate.
Led by the party’s Secretary General Shakila Abdala and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, the faction expressed confidence that Musyoka’s fellow Azimio la Umoja One Kenya co-principals will back his candidature.
The MPs, who addressed the press after the party's NEC meeting on Tuesday, vowed to put the Kenya Kwanza administration on its toes to heed the plea of Kenyans.

Kenyans stare at higher electricity and fuel prices as new bill seeks to double EPRA Levy.
The Bill seeks to double the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority levy to a maximum of 1% percent from the current ceiling of 0.5%.
Consumers are currently paying a levy of 0.25% on petroleum products and 0.08% per unit of electricity consumed.

Ray was arrested on November 9, and thereafter arraigned at Mavoko Law Courts on November 10, 2023.
He took plea and was detained.

A teacher died on Tuesday after being struck by helicopter blades in Masalani, Ijara, Garissa County.
The teacher was invigilating the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams and he was just picked up the exam papers for the day at the deputy county commissioner's office when the accident occurred.
The latest comes just a day after two other chopper accidents in the neighbouring Wajir County. In the first accident at around noon on Monday, a helicopter carrying Arabajahan MCA Abey Jimaale crashed at the Wajir Airport runway while taking off.

Colombian pop star Shakira has reached a deal with Spanish prosecutors to settle a tax fraud case, just as her trial was about to begin.
The singer has paid a €7.5m (£6.5m) fine - prosecutors had wanted to jail her for eight years and fine her €23.8m (£20.8m) if found guilty.
She had faced tax fraud allegations for €14.5m (£12.7m) in a Barcelona court.
Shakira, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, said she settled "with the best interest of my kids at heart".
In a lengthy statement, she said her children "do not want to see their mom sacrifice her personal well-being in this fight".
The performer had previously rejected a deal offered by prosecutors, instead opting to go to trial.

A police officer attached to the Nyakiang'a Police Station in Murang'a County died by su***de on Monday.
The police constable, according to a report, was at the police quarters inside the station when the incident occurred at around 2:30 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the officer shot himself inside the mouth with the bullet exiting through the rear part of the head.
The officer's body was transferred to Kiria-ini Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The incident adds to the recent spike in cases of officers taking their lives. It also highlights the challenges that the men in uniform undergo in the line of duty.

A woman whose husband has been found guilty of attempting to kill her wants the accused to be given a life sentence.
Through her lawyer, Margret Jelagat on Monday told the Eldoret Court that the incident caused her serious health complications, after the accused cut her head and hands with a panga.
Godfrey Kipkoech committed the offence on April 20, at Chebisaas Boys School in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County.
Eldoret Senior magistrate Peter Areri is expected to deliver the judgement on the case on Tuesday after the accused makes his submission.

A section of leaders drawn from the Mount Kenya region allied to the Azimio coalition have poured cold water on the ongoing bipartisan talks terming it as a waste of time and a diversionary move to issues affecting Kenyans.
Speaking in Kiambu County after launching the Kamwene Kiambu chapter, the politicians led by Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua maintained their earlier position that the cost of living was an irreducible minimum if they were to give the final report their approval.
The leaders vowed to unite all leaders and speak in one voice inviting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the forum to champion the Mount Kenya interests in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said on Tuesday his militant movement was nearing a truce agreement with Israel, according to a statement posted on Telegram.
"We are close to reaching a deal on a truce," Haniyeh said, according to the post.
Negotiators have been working to seal a deal to allow the release of around 240 mostly Israeli hostages seized on October 7, during the deadliest assault on Israel in its history.
Hamas fighters also killed around 1,200 people during their cross-border assault, most of them civilians.
Israel launched a relentless bombing campaign and ground offensive in retaliation for the attack, vowing to destroy Hamas and secure the release of the hostages.
According to the Hamas government in Gaza, the war has killed more than 13,300 people, thousands of them children.

Joseph Boakai has been elected president of Liberia with 50.64% of the vote, beating President George Weah who got 49.36%, according to final results announced by the election commission on Monday.
Boakai, 78, a former vice president who lost to Weah in the 2017 runoff and campaigned on a promise to "rescue" Liberia, he expected a lot of challenges, particularly with the economy.
Boakai said a key area from which Liberians had not benefited was the mining sector, despite the West African country's rich mineral reserves, including diamonds, gold, iron ore and timber.

The high court has temporarilyfsuspended Head of Public Service Felix Koskei's decision to suspend 67 police officers over corruption.
This follows a petition filed by activist Memba Ocharo who argues that Koskei's decision was "procedurally irregular."
“That a conservatory order is also issued restraining the respondents, their agents or any other person from interfering with the interested parties' discharge of their duties until further orders of the court,” reads court papers.
Activist Ocharo moved to court to challenge the decision on grounds that Koskei’s action of recommending suspension of the officers was irregular and constituted a direct contravention of constitutional provisions safeguarding the independence of the office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.
Ocharo argues that the officers were not accorded an opportunity to present their case, despite the potential prejudicial impact of the recommendation's implementation.

Paul Mackenzie, the main suspect in the Shakahola massacre, and his 28 co-suspects will remain in custody until December 22, 2023 when the court will rule on the state's application seeking to have them detained for 180 more days pending charge.
In the application, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jami Yamina listed several compelling reasons for detention pending the completion of investigations and argued that since the respondents pose a su***de risk, detention is the least restrictive measure pending the completion of investigations and charges.
According to the prosecution, the terrorism laws allow for up to 360 days of lawful detention pending completion of investigations and that parliament. In its wisdom, it extended the days from 90 days to 360 days to accommodate complex cases.

Three people were injured when a helicopter on its way to collect Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers crashed at Wajir Airport today.
North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno confirmed the incident.
He told reporters that the helicopter developed mechanical problems immediately after take-off.
“It was just taking off to collect examination papers when it crashed, three people were injured,” he said.

A group of Meru residents in collaboration with civil society have launched a drive to collect signatures for the suspension of the county government.
Speaking during the exercise in Nkubu, Imenti South, the residents said they were tired of the bickering between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and called on President William Ruto to suspend the devolved entity.
James Kinoti, a Meru resident, said since the August 9 elections last year, the leaders have only been fighting and called on the President to suspend the county.
“We want to go back to the polls and elect new leaders because the current ones have failed us. Let them go home, we will elect new leaders who have our interests at heart,” he said.

Nakuru Court dismisses former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga case on Mungiki Link.
Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion threw out the case noting that his legal team did not provide enough evidence to prove their case.
Njenga's lawyers had argued that the government had illegally turned some of the witnesses into prosecution witnesses.

The officer was in the company of his colleague and the centre manager when they were ambushed by unknown assailants with crude weapons.
While the centre manager fled for safety, the thugs killed one of the officer and injured the other.
The thugs escaped with the officers’ fi****ms before taking off.

Body found in church compound after murder in Kayole, Nairobi
His face was partially smashed when the body was found.
The body was discovered Saturday at the Deliverance Church in Mawe Mbili area, police said.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are yet to establish those behind the murder and the motive.

Teacher collapses, dies while invigilating exams at centre in Nairobi
The 53-year-old was an examiner of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education at one of the schools in the city.
The deceased had complained of chest pains and was rushed to Nairobi Women's Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Police officer arrested after allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl who was remanded at Rangwe Police Station in Homa Bay County.
According to a police report, John Mwangi, who was manning the report office, visited the female cells at around 21:30 pm when the lights had gone off and opened the minor's cell.
Mwangi is then said to have held the minor's neck, forcefully undressed her, and then defiled her.

Medics evacuate 31 premature babies from Gaza Hospital.
The hospital, Gaza's largest, has been described by the UN's WHO as a "death zone", after it sent a team to visit the facility on Saturday.
The infants were taken in Palestinian Red Crescent Society ambulances to a hospital in southern Gaza for assessment and treatment, the WHO said in a statement, with 11 in critical condition.

A police officer in Kajiado County is being held in custody at the Ngong Police Station after he allegedly r***d a woman at gunpoint.
According to a police report, officer Alfred Juma approached the victim when she was walking from Ngong to Gichagi on Friday at around 11:20 pm.
Juma is then said to have alighted from his car, a Toyota Fielder, and approached the victim when he allegedly grabbed her hand and forced her into his vehicle at gunpoint, then drove her towards Vet farm area.
Juma is set to be arraigned in court today, Monday 20.

Rosalynn Carter, who in recent days had entered hospice care at home in Plains, Georgia, died with her family by her side, according to a statement released by the Carter Center, a nonprofit organization founded by the couple.
Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, served as president from 1977 to 1981. He and his wife were the longest-married U.S. presidential couple, having wed in 1946 when he was 21 and she was 18.

Kenya Shujaa managed to retain the Safari 7s title after a 19-0 win over Samurai at RFUEA Ground on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
The win in the final summarized what Shujaa have been all throughout the two-day tournament.

'You left behind a mess': Kuria responds to Uhuru after he slammed Ruto's government.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has responded to former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s Sunday criticism of the current administration.
Attending a church fundraiser in Mwingi, Kitui County, Mr Kenyatta censured his successor, William Ruto, for blaming him for his government’s failure and poor economy.
“I do not want to say much not because I fear I stopped fearing. We have been threatened, told a lot of things. Every time someone fails, they say ‘Oh! Previous government,” Uhuru told congregants. In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, CS Kuria told Kenyatta to be quiet and let the current government do what he described as cleaning the mess the previous administration left behind.
“Every day the full magnitude of the mess you left behind is dawning on us. We are not complaining. We will continue to clean the mess. We can do so when you are quiet. Better,” Kuria wrote.
“You thought the economy would collapse by December 2023 as you have told your friends repeatedly. Now that it's clear we have navigated your murky waters, you are all over again.”

President William Ruto will be on a flight to Germany tonight, marking part of the over 35 trips he has made to over 45 cities globally.
Speaking at a Church Service in Bomet on Sunday, the Head of State explained that the German trip is aimed at fostering bilateral agreements between the two countries.
At the top of his agenda, the Head of State explained that he would pursue the over 200,000 opportunities German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised Kenyans during his trip to Kenya in May.
The trip will succeed his recent visit to Saudi Arabia where he revealed that he secured 350,000 opportunities for the Kenyan workforce.
