ANITA AMONG WILL TODAY PICK FORMS TO RUN FOR SPEAKERSHIP RACE.
Rt Hon Anita Among - will today declare her Expression of interest to pick forms for the position of speaker of the 11th Parliament at 11am at the NRM Electoral commission offices in line with Artcle 9 (2) of the NRM parliamentary Rules of procedure ,the Electoral commission here by called for expression of interest for the position of NRM flagbearer for the speaker of the 11th Parliament.
Parliamentary commissioner Hon Solomon silwanyi said that preparations are finalized for Rt Hon Anita Among to officially Express interest in the speaker ship Job in her capacity as Bukedea woman Mp.
The National Resistance Movement party, which has the decisive majority, has set tomorrow Tuesday for the expression of interest by its Members of Parliament.
The NRM CEC is will convene the next day on Wednesday to receive and vet names before sending them to the Caucus.
The NRM Caucus Spokesman, Alex Brandon Kintu confirmed to Press News that they will convene a special sitting on Thursday.
“Yes, the Caucus is sitting on Thursday to debate and harmonize on the vacant position of the Speaker,” said Kintu.
The election on Friday will be conducted by the Chief Justice, Alfonso Owiny Dollo as per the constitutional requirement.
Dollo on Sunday evening left Seattle, United States, where the former speaker died from on Sunday morning and is expected to arrive in the country on Tuesday early morning.
The Constitution article 82 (4) says when the seat of the Speaker of Parliament fall vacant, the first business in the House is the election of the new Speaker.
“No business shall be transacted in Parliament other than an election to the office of the Speaker at any time that office is vacant.”
