SASSA Pays First Batch of New Special COVID-19 SRD Grant Cycle

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), successfully commenced with paying out the first batch of applicants for the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD R350 Grant) today 25 August 2021. Applications for this SRD grant opened on 06 August 2021 and is set to benefit the unemployed citizens, most of whom lost their jobs when COVID-19 struck in 2020. By 18 August, SASSA had received 8 931 375 applications from all nine provinces, 41% of whom were from males and 59% being female applicants.

Payments of this grant are channeled through direct deposits into approved beneficiaries’ bank accounts, mobile money transfers through cell phones and through the South African Post Office. The payment process for all those approved starts on 25 August 2021, but will be done over the coming days. Not everyone should be expected to be paid today.

To avoid over-crowding at post offices during payment of approved recipients, a joint strategy was put in place by SASSA and SAPO. The last three digits of approved beneficiaries’ identity numbers will be used for payment collection on a specific day of the week. This will help minimize the spread of the COVID-19 infections and allowing for social distancing on pay days. Most importantly, if a person has not received an SMS from SASSA notifying them that the grant is available for collection, it means the grant is not available yet. In other words, every approved applicant must first wait for an SMS confirming that the grant is available before approaching the post office.

Applicants are advised to avoid going to the post office to just check if by any chance the grant is available. The grant will not be available if it is not the day of the week when SAPO uses the last three digits of your ID number to pay.

The function for all applicants to start checking their status on the system will be available later this week. This function has not been available, because SASSA has kept the channels open to cope with the high number of applications being received. Please bear with us for any inconvenience this might have caused.

The South African Post Office (SAPO) will not pay the R350 grant during Public Holidays, weekends and when normal monthly social grants payments take place.

Note: Only visit the post office to collect your grant

WE WILL NOT SUPPORT LEVEL 5 LOCK DOWN, WE WANT VACCINE
- MALEMA

Heard and seen talking with Xoli on 405 Newzroom Afrika yesterday about a protest that will be taking place at SAHPRA offices on the 25th of June in demand for the vaccine to be rolled out to the public and ultimately end the war with coronavirus in South Africa.
"You sound like an Apartheid journalist who was saying we are gambling with the lives of the people when we called upon them to defy apartheid which was law BY THE WAY , a law that is stupid is not law at all, is not worth respecting and if that means we are going to die, let's die because we are already dead, by being on our knees" .
The EFF Leader responded to the statement made by Xoli regarding the protest which will be taking place at SAHPRA offices on Friday, whether Julius Malema and the is making a senseless and irresponsible move by gathering large crowd by saying :
"You gambling with the lives of the people who cannot afford probably medical aid that you and I probably have right now"
The party leader further and strongly encouraged all South Africans to join the protest to demand the vaccine.
He made a call to Artists and Church leaders to also be part of this protest as they are the ones who are affected most by the lock down regulations.
He said He hope the number of attendees is in large number but He is certain that it won't be as close to the number of Employees reporting for duty at Coca-Cola office everyday and a number of mine worker digging underground everyday where there is no ventilation at all.
further told the Newzroom that president Ramaphosa has already got vaccinated, including all prominent people in South Africa, He said that is the reason why they don't care about the lives of the people.
In his own words, He said Sputnik V has complied with the demands by SAHPRA, therefore it's a complete lie in defense and promotion of J&J because Helen Reece is part of ASPEN and APSEN did cont
