Grief is a reflection of love. It's a natural part of life, and the more we love, the more profound our grief will be when that love is lost. If we think about the fact that grief is grounded in love, it does help us move through the journey. This is part of the work that grief coaches like Emily Bi...

I am so appreciative to Jason Binder for sharing his and his wife's experience with me as their patient advocate. Right now, I do patient advocacy voluntarily. It's a lot of work, and when a patient family reaches out, I drop everything and work the system to give each family the best options that are appropriate for them and to help them make informed decisions. I teach advocacy because it's not something innate in each individual, especially in times of crisis.

Did you know 👉 I am certified in trauma therapy?

Did you also know 👉 I have a Master's degree in Social Work with a background in quantitative and qualitative research. This has helped me understand the science and clinical research of brain cancer and other therapies.

BUT, I also have a certification in Storytelling in Modern Media, years in the field of communications and media, and 7 years as a health and wellness writer and associate publisher.

I have been doing patient advocacy work for the past 3 years, and most of it is because of our podcast Game On Glio. 🎙️

If you or someone you know is in need of patient or caregiver advocacy--please message me directly. I respond within 24 hours or less. 🙏

While Thanksgiving is a time to be with family and friends~ it can also be a hard time for those missing loved ones.
While new relationships form over time, there’s no guarantee you won’t be alone during the holidays.

👉During this festive season, take time to recognize when you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

👉Make a morning routine of meditating or deep breathing for at least 10 minutes before you start your day.

👉 If you get overwhelmed with crowds, know that’s ok. It’s common. Find a quiet space where you can reset.

👉 talk to loved ones and let them know how you are feeling.

👉 Try to make a short list of 3-5 things you are grateful for.

👉 Most importantly, try to find a sliver of joy within the day. Even a moment of happiness or laughter goes a long way. Recognize when you do feel it and take a moment to be present in the moment.

👉It’s ok to ask for help. The Counseling Compact,” is an interstate agreement that allows licensed counselors from participating states to practice in other member states without needing additional licenses.

This was a very happy face.

This was Mike June 2020, 2 months before he declined, 4 months before he died.

His hair was growing back~ more silver than before. Looking at this picture, you wouldn’t know he had brain cancer or was in treatment.

This picture reminds me how strong 💪 he was. How hopeful. Even in the midst of this disease, his smile lit up my heart & changed the energy of what we were dealing with.

He smiled through it all (most days).

Seeing this picture reminds me I can be brave. I can be strong. I can smile through hard times.

For all of you battling ~ you’ve got this! 🫶

Being a caregiver & then a widow has layers. There are aspects of the journey others don’t realize you have to deal with.

Intimate things that only you and your spouse see, feel, & understand.

For 4 years, i kept most of the dozens of medications 💊 Mike was on. Why you might ask? First, it was a reminder of how hard his cancer battle was. Second, his name was on them. It sounds weird, but for so long i didn’t want to lose touch with what we had. It was as if seeing his name on things like our check book or magazine subscriptions or medications reminded me it was all real. That he was real, that he wouldn’t fade from me.

This might sound odd, but this is what widows/widowers feel. I was with Mike for 20 yrs. It takes a long time to feel ok moving forward on my own without him. It takes the brain & heart a while to understand that they are gone from this plane of existence.

You also have to contend with how to discard so many medications. It was so overwhelming that I avoided it for a while. I had to then discard in batches. You must peel all the labels off (for security). Then put them in clear bags. Then take them to your local police station or Walgreens, CVS or local pharmacy for proper disposal. Do NOT throw them in the trash, crush them or flush down the toilet. ⛔️

I have now discarded all but a handful.

is ugly. is ugl. There IS beauty in the ugliness. It just takes a while to find it 🙏🫶
