The 4th Senate of Tehila Republic on Wednesday
3rd April, 2019 Reconvened their Sitting in the Chambers.

The Session Started at Exactly 3:04pm

The Chief whip Sen. Nsikak Edem led the Senate, President, Ibanga Emmanuel Ibanga, and principal officers into the Chambers.

The House gave a standing ovation to the Senate President and his entourage and remained so, until the Senate President assumed his seat.

The Senate President offered opening prayer and began the days proceedings at 3:40pm.

Sen. Utibe Jacob moved a motion to begin the day’s proceeding

*Announcement from the Senate President*

The Senate President announced that Sen. Solomon Akpan representing Crop Science constituency has sent a letter inviting the hallowed chamber to his grandmother's burial.

He also announced that the Vice President, Students' Union has sent a letter containing the list of her appointees to the Honourable house for approval as enshrined in the Constitution.

He added:
- That the Secretary-General has sent a letter demanding the house to grant him permission to come into the chamber and present his appointees.

Points of order:

- Deputy Senate leader drew the attention of the house to Section 31 (6) of the Students Solidarity Constitution which has provided a sitting allowance for house members. He prayed the hallowed chamber to look into implementation of this provision.

-Sen. Abasifreke made known to the house that the pending conflict between him and his predecessor Sen. Unyime Tom has been resolved and that they have reconciled.

-(Senate Presidents reaction to the points of order)

- That the points of order will be included in the next plenary session.
- He advised the Senators to always present their paper bill to the Senate leader and deputy to avoid errors.

He called on the Senate leader to proceed with the orders of the day.

*Petitions*
- Senate Leader tabled before the house that the actions of the Director of Socials of the Students' Union, Comr. Uko Uyo Akpan, is contrary to the provisions of the Union Solidarity Constitution, that he has made certain appointments without ratification by the house. He prayed the house to call him to order.

- Students' Academic Evaluation Bill, 2019 (SB. 005) Sen. Samuel Eno James (Senate leader).

- Students' Union Electoral Activities (Regulation and Control) Establishment Act, 2019.(SB. 006).

OFFICIAL INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDENTS' UNION SENATE MOBILE PLATFORM

With great pleasure, we introduce to you the "Aksu Parliament" an official facebook handle of the 4th Assembly, Students' Union, Akwa Ibom State University.

The introduction of this platform (AKSU PARLIAMENT) became necessary in order for us to bridge every gap between the Parliamentary arm of the Students' Union and Nigerian Students specifically in Tehila Republic.
Permit us to reiterate the functionalities of the Students' Union Senate:

The legislature is an assemblage of Students (Senators) who are legally elected by their departments to represent them. One of their major functions is to communicate the will of the people which they represent; to make laws and ensure those laws are implemented.

The legislative arm of the Students' Union, Akwa Ibom State University, is charged with the responsibility of making laws for the Welfare of the students of Akwa Ibom State University.

Through legislation, they control all activities of the union; scrutinize the policies of the Executive arm of the union through oversights and provide the necessary framework for the judiciary to operate(if any).

The legislature of the Students' union is the custodian of union's purse. Thus no fund can be spent by the Executive arm without the approval of the legislature.

With the introduction of this platform, we are assuring you that, you'll never find it difficult to interact and have knowledge of things happening in the Senate as regards bills and law.

This platform will serve as an online access that will bring the Senate closer to all Tahilian by communicating all activities of the administration through this medium.

It will serve as a medium of sharing information on activities like:
Reports on state of the 4th Assembly, Oversight Functions, Latest developments in the Assembly,
Special programmes and packages to mention but a few.

we shall entertain your complaints, recommendations, questions about the Senate and observations through this platform because this is our greatest concern.

Your interest, we shall protect in the Assembly,your complaints we shall entertain through this platform.

We hereby, launch this platform for service to students and betterment of our dear union.

THREE AKSU STUDENTS ESCAPE DEATH

Earlier today, Saturday 6th April 2019, at about 4:19pm the wind blow caused by the heavy rainfall fell a palm tree which landed on top of the Zinc of three Students of Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus.

The Military Zone lodge which is also one of the popular lodge in the University community is located close to the School Medical Center.

The victims include Reuben Uduak, a student of political science department, Imeobong Promise from political Science department and Owoidoho Nsima of the department of Mass Communication.

The victimized Students escaped the accident as none of them were injured when it occured.
