Vartika’s bloodletting!
Vartika Singh has certainly stunned some with harangued photo holding a placard. Supposedly written in blood. A more suspecting me would have wanted to confirm if the blood is her’s. But I guess it is so. In today’s world where you can get blood out of you painlessly. It is the rbc and plasma drain that her body would lose.
Her ability to call media attention does fuel the impact of her antics or ‘nautanki’ as we call it in Hindi. She is making headlines.
However more important issue here would be to know how valid are her demands.
As to her demand to be given the work of hanging the Nirbhaya case convicts. Here at the onset she should have done well by approaching the courts (Supreme court) with this logic. For being educated she would have read in her 9th class civics that the judiciary, legislature and the executant are all independent. So what the judiciary is entrusted with cannot be horse ridden by Mr. Amit Saha. For Amit Shah is no Saha of India and we are not a monarchy or regency like some West Asian countries but a thriving democracy and a republic.
And further even if this were a possibility and she could make her case, what would be her locus standi. She is not related to the victim and her only connection being she is a woman living in India. So by base statistics her status is same as that of at least 75 crore women or so.
And suppose you still play me , and we do indulge her. What is her credentials as an executioner or hangman , or hang woman as she would like to be called. None apparently. In the least she would be a hesitant choice as hanging and gun slinging are two different things and not a sport at all. In her present status if at all, per chance , she gets to hang them without qualifying and being appointed as a regular hang woman, she can be prosecuted for murder. For taking a life without holding the role (Of a regular hangman) even if life by law is slated to be taken this would indeed be a murder.
Very much like in a firing squad scenario, instead of the regular scheduled soldier if a lay gun slinger shoots the condemned ( at the appointed hour & spot), then the gun slinger in law and morality is committing murder. Just as any other trigger happy shootist.
Further she is publicly appealing to the women leaders and legislators to support her on this. This itself is a call for murder if you buy my previous argument.
To the last part of her demand where she gives the logic for her demand itself is abhorrent truly.
For first there is no much merit in executions worldwide and in many countries it is forbidden. A dying tribe with international humanitarian organisations as amnesty at its trail. And without going into the merit of it many argue and look forward to the end of the era of the medieval times vestige. We as modern societies look for repentance and remission as the results of the process of the law and use jails to keep the repugnant offenders grave or otherwise off the streets and the society at large with long prison terms which extend to all the time the offender may live his life itself.
In such a scenario a notion of pride or bravado for an added ‘woman’ executioner in a profession where there are already few takers is much ludicrous.
For to me a logic here says. If suppose you catch a person for r**e and do convict him to be hanged then the deterrent in crime for the person in not the choice being hanged by a male executioner or by a woman executioner. None so. The real deterrent would be in the good policeing where he is indeed caught and successfully persecuted to get convicted. Who hangs him once awarded capital punishment doesn’t mean a fig to him or the law or the victim kin or the public at large.
So Ms Vartika Singh sit and rethink. Nautankis might be good at a talk show or at the stadium stand. They pull crowd. But in serious matters of life and death and r**e or corrupting woman’s modesty, better not speak if you can’t speak sensibly. And far less do a nautanki.
