The official trailer for "Ala Moana Boys" is live! Be sure to follow Ala Moana Boys for updates on the festival premiere coming this year.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Based on true events from 1930s Hawai’i, Ala Moana Boys tells the story of five young men who were wrongly arrested and framed for the r**e of a U.S. Navy officer’s young, white wife. When evidence is presented in court that demonstrates there is no feasible way the accused could have committed the crime, the jury deadlocks, a mistrial is declared, and the boys are released. Shortly after, one of the boys is kidnapped by a group of racist vigilantes and violently beaten. The best friends gather in the victim’s home and try to figure out how to keep themselves and their families safe. But can they do anything against deeply ingrained prejudice?

Our beloved Queen, what would she say if she were here to speak to her people? Definitely, a message of love, unity, and compassion, reminding us that we are responsible for each other.
Always remember who you are, where you come from, and what you stand for.
Put down your spears and start to heal.

He kuleana ko kākou.

Four bird species and one plant species living within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM), have been given Hawaiian names. Developed by PMNM’s Native Hawaiian Cultural Working Group (CWG), facilitated by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and comprised of community members, and cultural practitioners and researchers, the names reflect Hawaiian cultural perspectives of the birds and plant species, as well as their characteristics and behaviors.

Learn more about the process the CWG engages in as they continue traditional Hawaiian naming practices in a modern day context.

As the largest group of asymptomatic positive cases in Hawaiʻi, our young people tend towards behaviors that can put their ʻohana, especially our kūpuna, at risk. Discipline is going to be needed in order for us to get through this pandemic.

11/11/2020

This video piece addresses the mass discrimination that is happening to our Micronesian cousins in the midst of them being the population with the highest number of positive cases in Hawaiʻi. Through the NHPI COVID Response Team we learned that Micronesians were being treated horribly by the community, by health care workers, and not being serviced adequately by State and County agencies.

We reached out to the Daughters of Mau, the female crew of the waʻa kaulua Makaliʻi. It reminds us, our Hawaiian and local people, that we are one Pacific people and owe a great deal to Mau and his Micronesian traditions for the revitalization of our waʻa kaulua tradition.

The Daughters of Mau that are featured are Captain Bonnie Kahapea, Kumu Hula Kehau Enos, and Kumu Anuenue Punua
