3 years ago I commissioned a girl to illustrate me. She was a pediatric nurse and this was her side hustle. I admired her work. A stranger supporting a stranger. By cartoonizing me, I saw myself in a different light.
In the past, all I could think about were all the hardships I went through to get to this level of professionalism and all the doubts and negative comments I received through the years.
But I never stop going.
I look back at these illustrations and remember feeling I wasn’t enough and didn’t deserve to have myself turned into such beautiful artwork.
Then I said “screw it.”
It’s VITAL for all of us to lift one another up in every stage of our journey. The last thing anyone wants to hear is how difficult it will be and why an alternative would be better suited for the sake of safety and comfort.
Support them anyway…
…while they learn.
…when they have doubts.
…when you have doubts.
…even when they’re charging “too much.”
…when they land their first commission, patient, or client.
…when they fail miserably.
…when they have new ideas.
…when they stray off the path and redirect.
Support your loved ones even when they’re not good - yet.
Support them when they’re just starting out.
Support them when they’re in the beginning stages of dreaming their dream.
Tell them they can do it, even if you have doubts and opinions.
Only blossoms can come from your fertilizing support.
Support them anyway.
