MEGA Drag’s first-ever pride party was a vibrant celebration of the best of q***r fashion, beauty, and entertainment. It was an electrifying night, full of dancing, performances, and an all-out drag battle, perfectly encapsulating the essence of pride. Of course, no celebration is complete without the perfect beverage to toast with.

Cheers to the pride spirit. Thanks to Absolut Vodka, here are the pride-inspired specialty cocktails that guests enjoyed at the event.

Just as a rainbow is a classic pride symbol, this concoction is an elevated take on beloved classics. Combining Absolut Vodka with lime juice, ginger beer, and lime wedge, it is a burst of citrus flavors that perfectly encapsulates the refreshing energy of the celebration.

As guests danced underneath a kaleidoscope of lights, they got to quench their thirst with this absolutely fruity drink. Prismatic Paradise is the perfect blend of Absolut Raspberri, simple syrup, lemon juice, raspberry, and soda water.

Nothing screams pride more than bursts of colors, and this beverage certainly made use of a rainbow of ingredients. A mix of Absolut Mandarin, ginger ale, pineapple juice, lemon, and lime, guests were certainly in for a treat with this colorful drink.

Cosmo Diva-jito

MEGA Drag’s Pride Party featured a kaleidoscope of drag talents. With the numerous drag artists attending the event, it is only right to serve beverages fit for divas. The Cosmo Diva-jito is a fabulous mix of Absolut Citron, triple sec, cranberry juice, lime juice, simple syrup, mint leaf, and soda water. It was a beverage absolutely fit for a queen.

Ferragamo releases their Pre-Fall 2024 Collection with Creative Director Maximilian Davis, reimagining elegance.

Ferragamo, a main player in the luxury fashion industry, has released its new Pre-Fall 2024 collection through a captivating campaign photographed by Harley Weir: an articulation of the vocabulary Maximilian Davis has built for the house, seen through the distinctly desirable lens of summer.

Davis described that the main concept was to play with the idea and seamlessly blend fantasy with reality. “Harley is someone who can express something that is both very real and very magical”, explains Davis. The campaign sets itself against a backdrop of Italian sculptures whimsically rendered as sandcastles, presenting a summer wardrobe designed for adapting between long days and even longer evenings spent on the beach. “I wanted it to have an ease, but also an energy, which women can relate to,” he continues.

The collection pays homage to the house’s history as it is seen throughout the collection, while still being rooted in the contemporary language of Ferragamo. For instance, Raffia is a staple material that Ferragamo often incorporates into their pieces, especially in their early designs. For this collection, this has been translated into leather-lined woven shoppers and cut-out totes, as well as applied to the uppers of mules.

“In terms of technique, combining high and low is what Ferragamo is about,” – Davis

“Ferragamo and Venna collaborated to create artwork that wasn’t to do with product: it was just about making really good imagery – and that collaboration made me particularly interested in that period when Italians were using art as a rebellious form of expression,” – Davis.

A few more honorable mentions in Ferragamo’s new collection are the reinterpretation of the iconic Ferragamo ballerina and the Ferragamo Hug bag. With the ballerina, its elongated last and toe exude a subtly subversive elegance, while enlarged hardware adds a minimalist yet playful element. The bag showcases the brands enduring legacy of craftsmanship and creativity, as it now features an artfully woven handle.

The creative industries rely heavily on the contributions of young and emerging artists who are driven by purpose, characterized by information and fact-driven behavior, and have a hunger for collaboration and change. Young designers pack the pages of MEGA’s July issue—their creativity, artistry, and approach to storytelling spotlighted. Prince Padilla, the MEGA Young Designers Competition’s champion, and two other finalists, Vic Fajatin and Akio Barreiro, are getting ready to take Philippine fashion by storm. Seph Samson, Micca Amor, Katelyn Aquino, Jan Charlotte Venzon, Ulysses Caragayan, and Iñigo Villegas are also emerging ones-to-watch in the industry. Other contestants who made their mark in the MEGA Young Designers Competition are Renz Reyes, Sandro Dela Peña, and Dino Bancoro.

This year’s gala brought together some of the biggest names in entertainment. While some opted for a classic take on this year’s theme of “bling” and dress code of black and white, others took an adventurous route like Kyline Alcantara.

A Peek of the Past

A few days before the event, Kyline Alcantara and her team unveiled two looks. The first look was a full Jacquemus outfit, a reference to her glamorous ensemble from last year’s gala featuring the same French label.

For the second outfit, her team opted for a hooded black dress—a tease to the final ensemble that would make it to the actual gala.

Walking into the red carpet, Kyline wore a corded, silver Cult Gaia number as her final and actual look. “When we create looks for her, we always accentuate her best features. Kyline has really nice décolletage, so this look is perfect for that,” The actress’s stylist, Team Studio 24c, shared.

They added, “This year we wanted to show Kyline as the woman she is becoming. We want her to shine and wear something very visual.” Indeed, the actress made this vision clear with her bling of choice. Further underscoring her transformation to a woman, Kyline’s makeup artist, Emman Magpantay, gave the actress a smoky eye look fit for the night. Meanwhile, hairstylist Brent Sales opted for a short bob wig to match Kyline’s overall more mature look for the night.

For Bianca Umali, the GMA Gala 2024 was a night of showcasing the sartorial craftsmanship of Filipino designers

At the GMA Gala 2024, Bianca Umali’s appearance echoed the event’s theme of gratitude. Hers, however, was an homage to the Filipino designers who have solidified her polished and playful style. “Bianca and I decided to do three looks for this year’s GMA Gala,” John Paul Dizon, the star’s stylist, shared in an exclusive interview with MEGA. “We’ve been working with these designers for the past years, and it’s like our way of thanking them for continuously dressing us up,” he elaborated further.

The Deconstructed Menswear

At the occasion, Bianca put Joey Samson’s garment surgery into the spotlight. For the look that made it to the red carpet, Samson transformed formal menswear into a deconstructed, feminine number. He refashioned the tuxedo shirt into a high-collared halter top with a bowtie detailing, as well as the double-breasted long coat that turned into a skirt with a dramatic train. “Joey Samson is a master tailor,” Dizon pointed out.

For Bianca’s next look, she and Dizon wanted to veer from her solidly embellished gold number from the past year. Embracing her figure in sheer fashion, the Sang’gre star wore a black Joe San Antonio that complemented her natural curves. “We want people to see her in a different light, from the look last year,” John Paul said.

A Flock of Fabric Manipulation

Exhibiting his mastery on playing texture, Roel Rosal designed Bianca’s third and final look—a dress with a fitted bodice, shredded feathers, and wrapped pearls. “The second look was inspired from his previous Philippine Fashion week collections,” Dizon noted.

Bianca and John Paul’s collaborative vision translated into three designs that fit well into the other elements of the former’s whole look—her minaudière by Neil Felipp and jewelry from Twin Princess Gem, as well as the sleek glam courtesy of makeup artist Thazzia Falek and hairstylist MJ Rone.

Concluding the interview with his thoughts of giving Bianca her signature looks, the stylist mused, “Bianca and I have been working side by side for a decade now. So it’s simple: First, staying true to who she really is. Second, keeping our plans to ourselves to avoid being swayed by the opinions of others. Third, always being a fan of your client. Lastly, Bianca’s confidence is always top priority.”

Continuous rain and strong winds due to Typhoon Carina have caused widespread flooding leaving roads impassable and several residents displaced or stranded across northern and central Luzon. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Carina is expected to maintain strength as it makes its way to Taiwan and will leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday. In times of calamities, it’s important to stay alert, have an evacuation plan ready, and help our fellow kababayans be safe.
