Well here we are. The end of the road so to speak. The end of a long road both physically and musically. The countdown I started on December 26th, 2017. But more so a collection of music I started almost a decade ago……

The irony of this post and this podcast is I have spent the past few days in Venice Beach, I haven’t been there since 2019. I rolled in and had a chance to catch up with some friends. They saw my Connecticut license plate and said “You have arrived”. It has been a very emotional week for me. So as I begin to look for a place to live, I have pondered wether or not this podcast will continue. I also realized my radio career has come to a conclusion……

I am a Californian. I am home………

I want to thank all of you, for every fu***ng thing!!!!! Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for listening. Thank you for being YOU!!!!!! Thank you to all the people who let me be SDUB in radio. Thank you to all in my D.O.T. life for letting me be that lunatic. Thank you all for making Stephen Wayne. Now as I look upon the sunset it is time for me to just be Stephen Barone……..

Now enough of that. Here is the with and Friends, Countdown Top 100 Part Six!!!!!! The final chapter. The TOP 10 songs, in my opinion. I so wish for you enjoy this as much as I have. More traveling but now for me. I’m heading back to Palm Springs, and Desert Springs. I really love the hang. The only thing missing is the ocean. That point will be rectified when I decide to find a place to live in Venice…….

But I will tell you I might have found a home for a little while . Like I said earlier I have entered a great community and this place is one my favorite. The people, the view, everything is awesome. It is missing a few things that I miss, but again, anything is possible……..

…..I have seen quite a bit on this journey, but none more beautiful than Joshua Tree. Its breathtaking views. It’s amazing vegetation reaching for the heavens. The stone work. The rock formations. The sand. The creatures, Everything about it was……No words can really describe. To meditate is such a sacred ground and to awake in the sunlight and dry heat fully at peace is something I will cherish and continue to enjoy………

Trick or treat…..Blah blah blah….. Here I am in beautiful California from my temporary home (Well at least for November) , dropping yet another with and Friends. So I thank you friends for checking it out. This would be all of that above but add, The California Countdown Part Three!!!!!!

We run down some numbers in the 50’s and 40’s. Don’t ask me any specifics, I’m a stoner surfer skateboarder dude now. And when I get the chance I’m going blonde!!!!!!!! And yes it does have a little spooky show quality to it, (See below….) There are some creep Halloween type bands inside this countdown……

Kick back dude and dudess's. Relax, chill, and enjoy the powder on the East coast, and the tasty waves here in the West…….

Hello to you all from the golden state of California!!!!!! Home at last!!!!!!!

I will let you in on a little secret. The last few weeks in the state of Connecticut produced the next few IWMWSWAF you are about to enjoy. I promised myself that I would share some thought’s and of course music of my beautiful California. Some of you may not agree with statement, but when you’ve been planning this as long as I have, s**t, you just need to fu***ng go through with it…….

I have collected thousands of songs about California for over a decade (Since my very first visit!!!!!!). And began to think that maybe I would share some of them with you. So here we are, this journey started on December 26th, 2017 prior to my retirement, and ended on December 26th 2019, (If you want to cheat, go ahead….). and I thought I would share with you what I thought would the greatest song about California on my 55th birthday and my official retirement day. (Again if you want to cheat, booooooooooo).

It was all of that except not as much as I thought. There is a lot of San Diego I loved, like the come on! Turtles procreating? WTF.......

And being lucky enough to play one of the oldest disc golf courses in the country . What a joy to spend the day chucking a disc around. And you sit and enjoy the scenery. And the other players were so courteous to a single player, to let me play through, and all of them amazed by my story. Thank you all......

And to get a bite of Mexican food right outside of the Tijuana border was something else. Mexican food on the west coast is superior. Duh......

Had to get the Jeeparino serviced yet again so I headed to and many thanks to Landry and everyone there. Hospitality A+......

I was spending my nights at for a few days and it was awesome. My neighbors again were so patient with me. Even on a Symphonic Sunday, watching football and screaming about my hatred for you know who. Thank you to everyone, and my back up skills are getting better. LOL……

Are you kidding me. I have reached California. Some may say I’m crazy. But WOW. I can relax a little extra bit. I am home, and a new home I have found. Palm Springs. Beautiful. I stayed in a little place called Catalina Spa RV Resort It’s located in Desert Springs California. And was it beautiful. But you know what made it even more spectacular was the people. The people here could not have been more welcoming to me that ever. I have been accepted to a new family!!!! Christina, Jimmy, JW, The Wisconsin BBQ Crew, all of the folks here took me in as one of their own. I am forever grateful.

Two things here. One I made my reservations at this beautiful place for two days. MISTAKE. Day one, I rolled in and my air conditioning was on the fritz. BAM. 104 degrees. So I called Airstream and they hooked me up with RVMaster and within a day my A/C was fixed. But I want to spend more time in this beautiful county. I was at the mercy of my A/C. So I have already had my reservations in San Diego, so forward I must roll. But I will circle back not only for the people, but the sights as well…..

Day Thirty One - Thirty Four.

I will tell you that if you going to go on a journey to Sin City.....Put it off.....Yes there is a lot going on in the world today and there is a lot going on in Las Vegas. Including traffic crippeling road construction on the strip. Bummmmmmer......

So with that being said, I stayed at two campgrounds, one we will remain nameless, but the second is where I spent a majority of my time. ! This place was kick ass!!!!! Beautiful grounds. Great service. And the people there, campers and employees could not have been nicer!!!!!!!

And the highlight for me obviously was visiting the new home of the Oakland . I know, but they will always be that to me. What a beautiful sight is. I just wish I could have gotten in to see The Al Davis Memorial Torch. But there still plenty of time for me on this coast. But guess what was open at the stadium?

The only downer during this portion of the adventure was saying goodbye to another chapter closed.....

I have to be totally honest I LOVE ARIZONA. That is why I decided to spend a few extra day’s here.

There are a few things here the may be of non-intrest for some of you, but those who know me, know, I really have really NO survival skills. But over these past 30 days I have survived, proving all of the skeptics wrong. How many of the non-believers thought I wouldn’t walk away from the “Normal” life to follow a dream. Those who did, “I Love You” those who didn’t, well Na Na Na Nan Na Na Nah…..

It’s been fu***ng awesome. The music. The local beers. The monuments. The landscapes. The landmarks. Everything. It has been awesome. And I hope you all can live your dreams as I have. That is what we work so hard for. And I am blessed to have been able to do so. I’m thankful.

All I can tell you is this, being a rookie at the camping and campground situations, I have been amazed at this community I have entered. The campgrounds and the other campers I have met have been unbelievably patient with this city boy. Thank you to all the great people I have met. From all over the country. Thank you to my new Arizona destination. There is no boondocking in Arizona, so I just happened to stumble upon this spectacular new campground. Verde Ranch RV Resort I can’t even begin to tell you how great this place is. You pull in in the middle of the night and they have a honor system. I was lucky enough to get a spot and you just check in in the morning. I love this place so much I decided to to spend a few days here. One night prior to heading to camp in the South Rim of …..

So, after my stay I headed to one of my favorite places on earth. The Grand Canyon. I camped in the South Rim, with a few friends as you see, got up at 4 am and hiked all day. I know I’ve said this before but what a transcendental experience. The vast beauty and the magnetism of this landmark is something to behold. I would visit this every day if I could. It is fu***ng amazing. And we are such small pieces of a greater existence when you stand at any point of the greatest view in America. And to stop and meditate on the highest point……There is nothing I can say. No adjectives to describe the feeling………

After The Grand Canyon it was back to VRRVR. Thats how much I love this place. A little disc golf in Cottonwood, and a visit to Jerome (Of course to see you know who…..)

Utah was something to see. Picture’s can not do its beautiful landscape justice. I have begun to move through the western states and keep moving, knowing that at some point they will be easier to get to as I have set my deadline on being in California by Halloween…….

Picture one and two, Jensen Utah beautiful landscape. I would pull over and just breathe, and the came the little town of Starvation Utah, as if it could get any more beautiful…….

But me being so anti-snow jetted out of the state as they were preparing for the up coming winter. Provo was absolutely beautiful (I could live there in the summer months). And yesthey had their avalanche signs up!!!!!! That was a sign for me to go.....

Now just let me take the time seeing as how this is a short post to thank, and for the boondocking. And all of across this road trip, so far all of the states and facility’s I have worked out in and showered, all of the staff’s have been awesome!!!!!!!

This one is kinda for my sister LABBY!!! As well as me. I hauled ass from South Dakota to Wyoming to spend the afternoon at The Devils Tower. Hmmmmmmmm What? Some of you might ask.....

Another one of masterpieces. And one of as well. As I listened to the soundtrack as I spent the day hiking around this mammoth man made monument, I listened to Maestro Williams soundtrack, and could literally close my eyes and feel the sights and sounds from that legendary motion picture. The peaceful welcoming tones, the smell of the nerve gas, and watching the mothers come for their son and Neary getting the chance of a life time……..

The King and The Sun. Part Two…….

Are you fu***ng kidding me? To tell you I have stood on hallowed musical ground twice in on day? Is wild!!!!!! Graceland, and then The Sun, where it all began. Where music truly was born. The roads of every generation of what we love musically, started right here!!!!!!

Not only was music truly born here, but it culminated radio, promotion, engineering, and vibe. Oh and you feel the vibe the minute you walk into that studio. My pictures can not do it justice. You need to see it, feel it, be in it, to really get what happened there. The studio alone, where (The Million Dollar Quartet) jammed, I have no words. and many more. None of this could have been possible without Sam Phillips. Period. What he did for music should never be forgotten. The innovation of what took place in this building and in the main studio changed the face of music. I strongly suggest that if you are on a musical journey and you find yourself at Graceland take a few minutes and ride on over to ……

That microphone, that legendary microphone, with Sam Phillips himself made sure it would never be put under glass, so visitors could stand and share the feeling, of The King, recording his first song, The Man In Black, recording the iconic tunes of “Ring Of Fire” and so many more, and all the other legends that stood before that mic, their ghosts are proud!!!!!!!!

The King and The Sun. Part One…….

A music lovers dream. Memphis Tennessee. The true birthplace of rock and roll……

Let’s start at the home of The King. . It was truly quite the experience. To see the modest home that the king of rock and roll lived in was amazing. It’s not a huge mansion and yet it is all that you would think of Elvis. The tour was awesome. And the tour guide was . (Virtually of course.). The grounds, the cars, the motorcycles, the memorabilia, the whole thing was just as Elvis would have expected. I think. Would he really have wanted all the capitalism surrounding his beloved home? So I’m of two minds here. It was amazing to pay my respects to him, especially at his grave sight, but yet to have so much commercialism surrounding it. Either way I’m glad in my lifetime I had a chance to see it......

And you don’t really understand the impact he had on music until you are there and talk with people not only from our country, but the employees and the people that come there from around the world. And to see a video with him saying he would never leave Memphis, and would keep Graceland as long as he could was touching. Tennessee should be proud and it was good to see this is a landmark. He truly was the king......

Enough said. The venue that changed the face of country music. The venue that was successfully able to share great performances from legendary artists to it’s fans through radio. is 90 years strong and still broadcasts over the airwaves of . Pretty cool…..

The rock world has had it’s share of performances there as well, but its biscuits and gravy is country artists. And as a fan of music it was an honor to stand on that stage. The stage that has been shared by some of music’s greatest artists. Because when it is all said and done, really it’s about the music. And as a radio guy it was cool to know that radio still has some place in musical history. Some of my colleagues, and other music outlets could still learn a thing or two from this long standing musical tradition……

From the to everything was awesome and the people could not have been nicer. From the food (Yes thats right, I said food…), to the beer everything has been great!!!!!!

Even though I am a rocker in a country western area you have to admit its pretty amazing how the musicians here respect their roots, and even in the age of a pandemic, mask’s and social distancing aside, they sure still know how to have a good time.......

Travel Days!!!!!!! I have been rolling with the (Airstreamarino) and the (Jeeparino) rolling through Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. And when you need a good time in SC, you need a little CTPS!!!!!!!

Hanging with and is a good time. I miss the two of them and proud of all the things they accomplished! We rolled through Bluffton and rolled into Savannah Georgia. So much fun and as always our adventures can not be described. But The FUN Machine was in full operation!!!!!!

I picked the wrong day to visit the !!!!! There was the battle of Ohio taking place. The vs. streets were shut down, parking lots closed, it was a mess. But lucky myself and another owner figured it out with the help of a kind local sheriff. And I really didn’t feel bad for paying for two spots.......

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Is just that. I mean if you dig music memorabilia, than it’s for you. Lots of musical history. And only one demonstration. and . All three were awesome. You saw their rigs and how they do what they do. I could listen to Keith Richards talk all day. All while choking down heaters.......

The interactive displays, The theaters that show demonstrations about rock ‘n’ roll history, and the jam rooms were closed. I understand why but it kinda bummed me out a bit. And not much ? And NO ??????? Wat up wit dat? All in all, it makes my rock heart feel good. (Their was a radio display and no mention of the legendary The Rock 106.9 WCCC, or even SHAME SHAME SHAME)......
