One of our members – Donnie Dodge – has a son who plays football for Peru State College and, just recently, was named as a member of the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his altruistic work off the field – founding the charity fundraiser Athletes 4 Children which helps athletes raise money for Children’s Hospital, along with putting in more than 1,500 volunteer hours as a college student and athlete. We’d ask everyone, if they have a minute, to go to https://promo.espn.com/espn/contests/allstate/2022/index and vote for Garrison Dodge for Team Captain and show support to Brother Dodge and his son’s hard work in helping those in need!

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® recognizes college football athletes for their unwavering commitment to community service and their "good works" off the field.

You've all got this...good luck! (By the way, if you caught this soon after this is posted, the answer is 18. 18 hours.)

Be safe today, A shift!

As your get ready to clock in for what is typically one of our busier holidays, we want everyone to enjoy the 4th of July, but be safe!! Stay hydrated, practice good fireworks safety, and be mindful of discarding used fireworks in a safe manner! We'll be there if you need us, but keep this holiday memorable for the time spent with family and friends and not for a close call! Happy Fourth of July, Omaha!

Visitation and funeral arrangements have been set for our brother, Don Sweazy, and are available below.

In a job that draws people who naturally want to help others, it’s tough to stand out as “the person that really cares about helping people,” but that was Don Sweazy to everyone he worked with. He was the perfect coworker – caring, funny, personable, and never seemed to have a bad day. He lived his life with purpose, and it was impossible to have met him and not remembered him for these very characteristics. It’s these characteristics we need more of, not just in this job, but in all of our lives. This week, honor Don’s memory by trying to live as he did: drink a fountain soda, make others smile, and care – genuinely care – about the lives of others…friends, strangers, everybody. By doing so, in mourning the loss of a brother we all cared deeply about, we also keep some small part of him with us and honor his life in a way that was entirely Don.

Please keep our members, their families, and specifically the family of one of the nicest individuals we've had the pleasure of working with who passed away unexpectedly today, in your prayers tonight and over the next few days. Out of respect to those close to him, we're not putting his name on social media, but our union members have been notified. Thank you for your compassion during this time...the world lost a wonderful person today.

Thank you, citizens of Omaha, and Omaha City Council for supporting your with the unanimous approval of the ordinance entering into a buy-back program with MacQueen Equipment LLC to provide our firefighters with new emergency vehicles, as well as a plan to replace them regularly moving forward! We had someone send this photo to us, and we wanted to use it to share a message: if your child ever wants to say “Hi!” to our firefighters, but you think we’re too busy, please say hi. If we’re not actively working with a patient or at an emergency scene, we ALWAYS have time for a high-five, a conversation, and sharing why we love this job. At some point, all of your were once that kid that wanted to say “Hi!” and because of that, as long as we’re not on a call, we would love nothing more than to share that excitement we have for the job to your kiddos (or kids at heart). Maybe some day, they’ll be in our shoes and doing the same! Pictured is Dave Manning from E63 on the A Shift.

Second reading passed by city council unanimously! Third reading is next week, and if approved, we'll see all front-line engines, trucks, and squads replaced in 8 years!
