The social activist and senior Leader Malik Yasir have shown their concern and are urging that Govt should depute Horticulture department and agricultural department in accessing the damage and provide immediateb compensation to the affected orchardists & farmers in view of this natural catastrophe.

*2 Vehicles Damaged As PDD Transmission Tower Collapses Due to Snowfall in Balhama Srinagar*

Srinagar, Feb 23 (GNS): Amid ongoing snowfall, a Power Development Department (PDD) transmission tower collapsed at Balhama in central Kashmir's Srinagar district this morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that a transmission tower of PDD collapsed at village Balhama resulting in damage to a tipper dumper bearing registration number JK02AP 2513 and a platform vehicle bearing number JK02AL 1648, parked on the roadside.

The damaged transmission tower has also lead to blockade of road leading from Sempora to Khrew.

Local sources told GNS that no official from the department concerned or district administration has reached the spot yet. (GNS)

J&K Reports 3499 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, 6 Deaths

Srinagar, Jan 16 (GNS): Covid-19 cases continued to skyrocket in Jammu and Kashmir as 3499 new cases have been reported while six persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.

They said that 1210 of the cases were reported from Jammu Division and 2289 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 359373.

There were also six deaths in the last 24 hours, three each from Jammu division and Kashmir Valley. So far 4567 people have succumbed to the virus and include 2221 in Jammu and 2346 in Kashmir.

Giving the district wise details of the fresh cases confirmed in J&K, the officials told GNS that Srinagar reported 614, Baramulla 463, Budgam 404, Pulwama 94, Kupwara 157, Anantnag 230, Bandipora 166,
Ganderbal 27, Kulgam 127, Shopian 7, Jammu 556, Udhampur 126, Rajouri 39, Doda 20, Kathua 163, Samba 112, Kishtwar 20, Poonch 67, Ramban 18 and Reasi 89.

Besides, they said, 470 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time—308 from Jammu Division and 162 from Kashmir. So far 338923 people have recovered, leaving active case tally at 15883 —6589 in Jammu and 9294 in Kashmir.

They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said.

They also informed that 33419 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

Amid spikes in Covid-19 cases, govt imposes weekend restrictions in J&K

Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday ordered complete restriction on non-essential movement on weekends in the entire Union Territory amid rise in Covid-19 cases.

According to an order issued by State Executive Committee, a copy of which lies with Kashmir News Service (KNS), there shall be complete restriction on non-essential movement on weekends in the entire UT.

As per the order, the measure has been taken to minimise transmission of Covid-19 and prevent its further spread.

Notably, on Friday Jammu and Kashmir reported highest number of Covid-19 positive cases of 2456 with 1522 in Kashmir division and 934 in Jammu division.

The order also stated that there shall be no in-person teaching in colleges, schools, ITIs, polytechnic colleges and coaching centres in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
