The coup d’état against President Biden illuminates the themes exposited in the essay on Sen. J.D. Vance’s thought and rhetoric, to which I refer the reader. Coup terminology in this case is not overwrought: a sitting president of the United States has had his political future terminated, which means his political present is ended as well. Absent potential there is no power, and therefore no purpose. The logical corollary to the immediate end of his campaign therefore ought to be the immediate end of his presidency.

Before she was Joe Biden’s understudy the last four years, Kamala Harris ran offices as a California prosecutor and senator. Often, scandal and failings followed in her wake.

As California Attorney General, Harris was widely criticized for failing to take on prosecutorial misconduct. In fact her office was “called out” by judges for “defending convictions obtained by local prosecutors” who had inserted false confessions, lied under oath, and withheld evidence. A federal appeals judge even admonished officials in 2015 to talk to Harris "and make sure she understands the gravity of the situation" involving prosecutorial misconduct.

Likewise, Harris’ top deputy was accused of sexually harassing a staffer while working for Harris at the California Department of Justice, costing the state $400,000 to settle the case.

President Joe Biden jolted the political world by abruptly ending his re-election campaign. And though he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party presidential nominee, her ascent is far from a sure thing as other hopefuls are expected to emerge in the coming days.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison pledged a "transparent and orderly process" to find a nominee who can beat Donald Trump.

However, Harrison was unclear with the Democratic National Convention – in which essentially the candidate with the most delegates is traditionally officially nominated – just weeks away.
