Hi all! We are still here and will be starting up again very soon! I've been putting a lot of time and mental effort into the end of the Revolutionary War role-playing game I created for the New Hampshire Historical Society. As the decision has been made to complete that program online, it's taken some extra prep.

I can't wait to be back! See you soon!

04/05/2020

I"m taking a couple of days off from podcasting this week for a couple reasons.

1) my internet has been repeatedly crashing. I'm in what I am being told is a very long queue to have it fixed. This causes a LOT of frustration as I could be 95% through uploading a video (which takes an hour as it is) and when the network goes down, the download stops and has to be started again from the beginning.

2) We have decided to our New Hampshire History for Homeschoolers program online to finish up the school year. I need a couple of days to get all of that completed and ready for programs.

So, my best guess is that we will be back on Thursday or Friday with a new episode. Live Free & Learn!

I’ve been in jail! Facebook Jail, that is - for 3 days, I’ve been unable to post or share as Facebook bots thought I was getting too political. 🤷‍♀️

To celebrate my release, I’m sharing another chance to WIN a great readable bit of New Hampshire!

See you tomorrow morning at 10!

You have 15 more hours to share this and one lucky share-er will win an Old Man of the Mountain Bobblehead!

See you tomorrow for the drawing!

Hi friends,

After another long night of trying to update some things on my computer, I have found a solution, but it won't be done until later this afternoon. SO, with that said, see you on Monday!

When I started this, it was to try to bridge a gap for some parents whose children were in the middle of New Hampshire history units either through school or with the New Hampshire Historical Society. Now, its evident that we are going to be in this for longer than the few weeks that we were hoping for.

(I suspected this, as I have been teaching English to quarantined children in China for four full months now, but I was hoping we wouldn't be going through the same.)

So, with that in mind, I am excited to take the weekend to make a more permanent-temporary plan.

Remember! On Monday, I will be drawing for an Old Man of the Mountain bobblehead from all the people who share the video. You'll find it just below this one on the page.

See you Monday! Live Free & Learn!

Hi all! I’ve had a little hiccup with my computer as I got it ready for my girls to use it for school. So, we should be back tomorrow with a video and answers to Tuesday’s questions!

See you tomorrow!

Friends, anyone who shares today's Live Free and Learn video about the Old Man of the Mountain will have the opportunity to win an Old Man bobblehead next Monday!

Yes, they exist. And yes, they're fantastic!

I'll choose one person at random to receive the bobblehead after orders begin shipping again post-quarantine.

A timely post today from the New Hampshire Historical Society. This sampler (not Shaker-made) was wrought by Hannah Foster in 1796.

For today's , we're sharing a favorite object of schoolchildren who visit the "Discovering New Hampshire" exhibition. This sampler was made by 12-year-old Hannah Foster of Canterbury in 1796. The bottom panel, featuring flame-like fir trees, flowers, birds, and a basket in the center, is characteristic of samplers made in Canterbury during that time, including several others in the Society's collections.

Jane Appleton Pierce processed her grief by writing letters to her son, Benny, after he was killed in a train accident.

The New Hampshire Historical Society has some of Jane's letters in their collection. With membership, you can read a transcription alongside her handwritten letter.

Letter from Jane Pierce to her deceased son, Benjamin Pierce, dated January 30, 1853. Jane writes to her son about her sorrow at the loss of his life in a train accident.

There are five ways to earn points each day.
1) Answer the trivia questions. A daily reminder will be posted along with a summary of the trivia questions. Please send your answers by private message rather than answering publicly.
2) Answer the bonus question. Again, please send your answer by private message.
3) Watch the video. Comment below the video or "like" it to earn a point.
4) Complete the daily activity prompt. Post it to the group so we can all see your talent!
5) Share the video on your page. Send a screenshot of the shared post by private message or to me personally if we are friends here on Facebook.
A few extra details:
1. Points are for PARTICIPATION. They are not for getting things 100% correct. The exception to this is for the daily bonus question. In order to receive the point for the daily question, the answer must be correct, and it must be received before I publish the next day’s video with the answers.
2. Points will be tallied by family. So, if your family has 5 children and they all do every single task individually, your family can still only earn 5 points per day, 1 per task.
3. You do NOT have to be in New Hampshire to participate. I have done my best to make all activity prompts relevant for all states.
4. Points for past activity prompts, watching videos, and sharing videos can be earned at any time during the life of this podcast. However, you do have to answer the trivia and bonus questions by the next episode to get the points for those.
5. You can use Google or another research tool to find the answer to the trivia questions! We are here to have fun and to learn, not to show how much we already know.
