Argentina won 3-2 in the 1986 final while West Germany won 1-0 in the 1990 final.

Brazil and Italy are the only other two countries to have played against each other more than once in a World Cup final.

Brazil defeated Italy 4-1 in the 1970 final and also won 3-2 on penalties in the 1994 final.

Luis Felipe Monti played in two FIFA World Cup final matches with two different national teams.

A midfielder, he played his first World Cup final match in 1930 with Argentina against Uruguay which they lost 4-2.

He then signed for Italian club Juventus in 1930 and after some impressive performances, he was called up to the Italian national team, as he also had Italian citizenship.

Monti played his second World Cup final match in 1934 with Italy against Czechoslovakia which they won 2-1.

Back in 2006, Juventus were relegated to Serie B and stripped of two Serie A titles for their role in a match-fixing scandal that also resulted in fines and points deductions for AC Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina.

Many key players left the club afterwards- Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson to Real Madrid, Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimović to Inter Milan, Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta to Barcelona and Adrian Mutu to Fiorentina.

Some other 'big names' like Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Pavel Nedvěd, David Trezeguet, Marcelo Zalayeta and Mauro Camoranesi remained at the club and took part in the 2006-07 Serie B season.

Despite starting with a 9-point deduction, Juventus finished top of the Serie B with 85 points and Del Piero emerged Serie B top scorer with 21 goals. And so they gained promotion back to Italy's top-flight division.

Having won the AFCON in 1994, Nigeria could not defend their title, as they withdrew from the 1996 AFCON tournament under pressure from the then government in power.

They were subsequently banned from participating in the 1998 AFCON tournament.

They made their return to the AFCON in 2000 and finished runner-up, losing 4-3 to Cameroon on penalties- after the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

This was followed by a consecutive third place finish at the next three AFCON tournaments (2002, 2004 and 2006).

Celestine Babayaro became the first Nigerian to play for Chelsea when he joined the London club in April 1997, aged 18, for £2.25 million, a club record paid for a teenager at the time.

He played over 200 games for Chelsea, winning the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and FA Charity Shield.

However, he struggled for game time when Mourinho took charge of the club in 2004, as the Portuguese manager preferred to play Wayne Bridge in that position.

Babayaro left Chelsea for Newcastle in January 2005.

Gianluigi Buffon conceded two goals at the 2006 World Cup.

The first was an own goal by Italian player Cristian Zaccardo in the group stage game against USA while the second was a spot kick by Zinedine Zidane in the final match.

Buffon was named the tournament's best goalkeeper.

He currently plays for Parma and is the only active player from that World Cup winning squad.

During a World Cup qualifier match between England and Sweden in 1989, England defender Terry Butcher was involved in a first-half clash of heads with Swedish striker Johnny Ekstrom, which left him bleeding profusely.

After receiving treatment and being bandaged up, he continued with the game. At full time, Butcher's white England shirt was totally stained with blood.

The game ended in a goalless draw and helped England qualify for the 1990 FIFA World Cup tournament hosted by Italy.

The 2008 African Footballer of the Year awards was perhaps the most controversial.

Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor finished first, Egypt's Mohamed Aboutrika finished second and Ghana's Michael Essien finished third.

That year, Aboutrika won the AFCON with Egypt. He also won the Egyptian Premier League, Egyptian Super Cup and the CAF Champions League with Al Ahly. In addition, he made CAF team of the year, made the 2008 AFCON dream team, was named man of the match in the AFCON final and won the BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

On the other hand, Adebayor didn't win a trophy or individual award that year. He finished third with Arsenal in the Premier League.

Many fans believed the reason Aboutrika didn't win the award was because he wasn't playing in Europe.
