Driving something a little different for the next few days. 2024 Volkswagen ID.4

You guys might not know this but I came extremely close to buying an ID.4 at the end of 2021 right when the Ioniq 5 was going on sale. I really struggled at the time to make a decision. Obviously, Ioniq 5 won out but let’s see how I like the new made in America ID.4 with many updates for the new model year.

EV9 owners: I have just gotten installation instructions and everything together to show the install process on your cars of the walk-away door lock device. You probably already know that when you get out and walk away, your car doesn't automatically lock the doors. The device solves that problem! After all doors are shut, 10 seconds later the device sends a signal to lock all the doors. Unfortunately, I'm not able to source the connector that would allow you to just plug in so you'll have to use the wire tap method but it's still going to be an easy install. I'm still looking for people outside of the US to check their wiring to see if you have the same trailer light wiring harness under the trunk floor so if you want to look, please let me know.

It's been a while since I've conducted a proper survey and before I make it live, I wanted to give you guys the opportunity to think of some questions that you think might be worthwhile to put in the survey about E-GMP EVs from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. I don't want this to get too lengthly to the point that it deters people from completing it so I will pick and choose what ultimately gets included.

I'm going to release a video announcing the poll and then will make a follow-up video going over the results after say a month or so. There will be a separate section where you guys can add any further comments you would like as I'm going to be giving this to Hyundai and Kia. Leave your questions in the comment section!

The Kia EV3 was just officially unveiled. Some specs but many have not been mentioned. Here are the standouts:
-81.4 kWh 400V battery in long range model
-560km (348 mile) range with FWD version
-Charge port moved to passenger front fender
-10-80% charging in 31 mins topping out at 128kW
-2.7 meter wheelbase and 4.3 meter overall length. 30cm shorter than EV6
-iPedal3 which sounds like it’ll offer multiple levels of deceleration that can be chosen by the user
-Streaming services built in (Netflix, YouTube, etc)
-Same screen as EV9 with center HVAC screen
-They’re hopping on the AI train with a new assistant
-Full OTA updates
-HDA2
-All those orange accents throughout!
- On sale in Korea in July and Europe second half of 2024. US in 2025 with a price between $35-50k

Today I drove to work at 65 mph and reducing my speed by another 5 mph compared to yesterday (70 mph) yielded an additional nearly 0.5 m/kWh bringing my average up to 5.9. This will be the last speed reduction as going anything less than 65 on CT highways doesn’t feel safe even at 5:30am. Pretty cool to see that reducing my speed by about 9 mph on the highway yielded roughly 20% better efficiency.
