From Zarah Sultana: "Our new government must do the right thing and stop enabling Israeli war crimes. That is why today, as a backbench Labour MP, I am tabling an amendment to the king’s speech calling on colleagues to uphold international law and suspend arms sales to Israel." We wonder if our local MP Simon Opher for Stroud will vote for this amendment?

International law is clear: we have an obligation to prevent genocide. That is why I have tabled an amendment to the king’s speech, says Labour MP Zarah Sultana

The court voted by a majority of 13 votes to two that “Israel shall, in conformity with its obligations under the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, and in view of the worsening conditions of life faced by civilians in Rafah governorate … immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah governorate which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that would bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part”.

We wish all our Muslim friends Eid Mubarak, as you end the feast and fast of Ramadan.

We particularly think of sisters and brothers in Gaza. For all in Palestine, we recognise that the usually joyful period of Ramadan, concluding today in the feast of Eid-Ul-Fitr, has been full of anguish and loss. Traditional greeting of Eid with joy, new clothes, special food and sweets, gatherings with relatives and friends to share gratitude for the month of fasting, and gifts especially for the children: how are these to be imagined in the horror of the last weeks?

Eid is the time to celebrate completing the ordeal of the month of fasting. How much more of an ordeal for the people of Gaza? We send solidarity to you in all the ways that you are holding together your beseiged and aching community.

We continue to appeal to the spirit of humanity in Israel to stop the destruction of Gaza and her people, on this special day for Palestinian people, and going forward for the sake of all future generations in the region.

"The judges, who were unanimous in their decision, said Palestinians in Gaza were facing worsening conditions of life, and famine and starvation were spreading. “The court observes that Palestinians in Gaza are no longer facing only a risk of famine … but that famine is setting in,” the judges said.

In its legally binding order, the court told Israel to take “all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without delay, in full cooperation with the United Nations, the unhindered provision at scale by all concerned of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance” including food, water, fuel and medical supplies.

The ICJ also ordered Israel to immediately ensure “that its military does not commit acts which constitute a violation of any of the rights of the Palestinians in Gaza as a protected group under the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, including by preventing, through any action, the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance”.

“As members of Israel-based civil society committed to human rights and the rule of law, we condemn the fact that Israel has so far failed to change its behaviour based on the measures imposed by the ICJ, as well as the fact that humanitarian aid to Gaza dropped by 50% in the month following the ruling,” the letter says.

“We call for an immediate ceasefire, which must include the return of the hostages. We urge the Israeli government to comply with the ICJ order and implement the court’s provisional measures, which are essential to mitigating and overcoming the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

“Moreover, we call on the international community to use its collective influence to promote and support an immediate ceasefire and the implementation of the provisional measures, and to increase its efforts to ensure that the Israeli hostages are returned from Gaza.”

Families for Ceasefire Monmouthshire, one of the groups campaigning against the bombing of Gaza by Israel, said that the number of children killed in Gaza now outstrips the entire school age population of Monmouthshire.

“It is incomprehensible that the weapons being made right here on our doorstep are being used in this mass slaughter. Families for a Ceasefire represent the voice of families in Monmouthshire who want to see an immediate end to this a war on children and are calling for a permanent ceasefire now. Wales must stop arming the genocide of children and families!”

Over 100 protesters have set up 'peace pickets' blockading two weapons factories in Bristol that are allegedly arming the Israeli military offensi ...
