Ikom is a town in Cross River State,Nigeria that spreads in the east of the River Cross and the A4 highway.It has an area of 1,961 square kilometers and a population of over 162,383.
Culturally,it is famed for the Ikom monoliths,artifacts that bear ancient writings.
Agriculturally,it is a power-house for farm produce as well as cash-crops:Cocoa,Oil palm and Timber.
According to Statistics from the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture,Ikom has a total planted area of 1,917 hectares of Cocoa in its estates.Unfortunately,this huge potential has not attracted any Cocoa producing industry to it.Minerals like the Salt brine deposits in Akparabong and the Baryte in Ekukunela;both of which are abundant in commercial quantities have remained unexploited!
Ikom is peopled by the Ekom,Ekparabong,Ofutop,Nde,Nta,Nselle,Nkum,Okuni,Abanyom & Nnam;all of who funnels into eleven (11) political wards:Akparabong,Abanyom,Ikom 1,Ikom 2,Ofutop 1,Ofutop 2,Olulumo,Nde,Nta-Nselle,Nnam & Yala-Nkum.
