Have you ever been in God's waiting room? You probably felt many emotions there. Discouragement, disappointment, anger, resentment, fatigue, and uncertainty showed up and threatened to absorb you. The changes you are going through now might feel like a roller coaster ride - up, down, and around. Keep holding on, and just remember this: God is always faithful! Focus Scripture: Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5 Inspired by "God's Timing Is Perfect," in Our Help: Devotions on Struggle, Victory, Legacy by Diane Proctor-Reeder

Holy God, we thank you for this day and for all the ways you have blessed already this week. We ask for continued blessings in the days to come. We pray that you will protect us from dangers seen and unseen and keep us safe beneath the shadow of your wings. We pray that you will wrap us up in your loving arms and grant us your peace. In all things we give you thanks. Amen.

The concept of justice is a recurring theme throughout the Old Testament and is rooted in God’s Covenantal relationship with Israel. The original Hebrew meaning of the term justice pertains to all of the actions that contribute to maintaining the Covenant, “the true relation between man and man, and between God and man” (Heschel, 1961, p. 268). People of the Covenant are called to compassion, justice, and selfless love for others, mainly because they were once slaves in Egypt....

Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because so many people were coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat. Mark 6:31 Many people like me find ourselves following Jesus’s example of stealing away to a secret place, a quiet place, a safe place where we can reflect on the big picture and think about the promises of our God in times like these....

Sometimes the world seems so heavy that your heart is about to break. No one cares to listen. You have nowhere else to turn, so you talk to God about it and record your thoughts in your journal. Scripture tells us God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). Later, when you go back and read your journal entries, you have evidence that nothing is too hard for God. Look for Near to the Brokenhearted, a new daily devotional and journal coming soon.

Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Isaiah 65:17 The prophet Isaiah tells us the Lord said: “For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth.” Scripture tells us that the Lord was displeased because there was no justice in the community; no one was marching up to the plate to help the oppressed and the victimized....

In exile, they faced unfamiliar societal norms, exotic customs, and syncretic worship practices that challenged them unexpectedly. If they weren’t careful, they stood in danger of losing track of their identity as people of faith....

Focus Scripture: John 21:15-17 This story takes place on the shores near the Sea of Tiberias. Most of us know this body of water as the Sea of Galilee. In many respects, the sea is legendary. It is the place where Jesus called his first disciples (Luke 5:1-11), walked on water (Matthew 14:22-33), healed the sick (Mark 6:53-56), taught his disciples to pray (Matthew 6: 9-13) and told them not to worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34)....

The Resurrection - April 17 – Luke 24:5-9 I wonder what Mary felt as the chief priests and the Romans made a mockery of Jesus’ death. There, on the hill of skulls, they lynched him, nailed him to a tree of shame and degraded him in front of a raucous crowd. Ironically, the whole affair was a cause for celebration in the eyes of some of those who stood at the foot of the cross....

March 31 - Now what? Isaiah 43:1-7 When I read today's scripture, I thought about our present situation. After many months of being restricted by the coronavirus and its variants, people are asking, now what? Some people have started to experience what psychologists call “pandemic panic,” here defined as “sudden fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behavior.” In other words, some people are terrified about what the future holds and have started to give in to their fears....
