“Bilang ASEANO” wins People’s Choice Award

Last August 23, 2022, the CHED Regional Office VI launched the song writing competition with the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”. The said annual event aims to provide opportunity for student songwriters and music enthusiasts in all HEIs in Region VI to express themselves and showcase their talents while fostering ASEAN identity and uniqueness. With triumph, the Guimaras State University’s entry entitled “Bilang ASEANO” which was written and performed by Neon Lastimoso and James Gaitan Rozaldes made it to the Top 10 who were invited to perform in STI West Negros University Gymnasium, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental last September 29, 2022 during the 2022 ASEAN Music and Fashion Festival.

This event paved the way for them to introduce their talents and bring pride to every Guimarasnon as they brought home the People’s Choice Award title, Certificate of Achievement and a cash reward.

They were not able to win the grand prize, but they took the crowd’s heart and eyes. Indeed, after the conversion of GSC as a university, this is the 1st Regional Award given to GSU students. An accomplishment which marks a more prosperous opportunity for more crowd to perform for GSU. Kudos to everyone who lent their time and effort to support this achievement. Mabuhay GSU!
