About a year ago I was in a pretty unhappy funk. Scrolling through Facebook with a disappointed frown, I stumbled into a community of online marketers. This community taught me the importance of self development. An amazing group of people, committed to helping this world be the best that we can possibly be.
So, I ended up joining this community, and started seeing the personal growth immediately! The best part was all of the growth that I was experiencing, was tangible and making a direct impact on my health, wealth and happiness. I lost a bunch of weight, stopped smoking (after many years), started eating better, started working out, started setting goals, started reading (ALOT) haha, at the end of the day... I started to push myself out of my comfort zone, that was the main thing.
Because of all of these things, I had gained soo much more confidence in myself, and a realization in what I am capable of achieving!
One of the books that I started reading was “The Magic” ~By Rhonda Byrne~ A book about gratitude and the power it can have on our lives. Don’t get me wrong, I was as skeptical as the best of em’ about the power of gratitude.
But.... It’s what was recommended by the top earners of the industry. The fact that the top earners were all reading this book and taking part in the practices daily, all while achieving greatness, was irrefutable. So I figured “Hey if they can do it... So can I!”
So I began reading “The Magic” and doing the practices. Well, the common practice for each day, is to write out 10 things that you are grateful for. So what did I do? I typed out 10 things that I was grateful for in my iPad each morning.
Fast forward one month...
I am at a team meeting in Edmonton, AB. After our team meeting there was alot of mingling going on and I began chatting with a couple of mentors. They expressed to me how important it is to do go lives on a consistent basis.
So the next morning I woke up and started to read my daily chapter of “The Magic.” Next, I popped over to my ipad where I was about to create my 10 daily gratitude entries. Before I could get started typing, I had to scroll past all of the previous entries. While scrolling, I realized.... “HOLY SMOKES!!! I AM GRATEFUL FOR SOOO MUCH!!”
Over the course of one month I had compiled a list of over 300 things I was grateful for!!
If I can be grateful for over 300 things... I must have a pretty damn good life!!
The curiosity got the best of me and I really wanted to know, what are all of these things that I am soo grateful for! So I scrolled Aaaalllllll the way back to the top and began reading each entry that I had made over the past 30 days.
With so many entries I thought it might be tough to find a commonality in all of the entries.
Well, I was wrong!
What I found most common in all of these entries was the fact that I am soo grateful for the PEOPLE in my life. It is the PEOPLE that I surround myself with that make my life so extraordinary! Then, as I sat bathing in gratitude, a wave of sadness washed over me. I had realized I was keeping all of this gratitude to myself! All of the gratitude I felt was locked in this iPad and not being distributed to those who truly deserve it!
So, I began the 5 hour drive home to Grande Prairie. Armed with the knowledge that weekly Facebook go-lives will help my online marketing career, and punished with the sad realization that keeping my gratitude to myself was unfair. I put on an Audiobook (“Leaders Eat Last” ~Simon Sinek ~), which I was totally captivated by on the way down, but I couldn’t stop my mind from running!! So I shut off the radio and drove with silence so I could focus on my thoughts.
How do I combine a weekly Facebook go-live show with letting people know how grateful I am for them?
That’s when the marketing jeans kicked in and Shout Out Sunday was born!
I did what I always do when I come to a big decision, I called a couple of people who are very close to me to chat about my new Idea. I was met with confused excitement. They were excited because they knew how pumped I sounded on the phone, but I could tell they didn't quite know what the heck I was up to.
I waited to have the first episode 3 weeks after that meeting though, I had some things to accomplish first!
Step one ~ Assemble the media mavericks, who could help me (by help me I mean do it all lol) create a theme song for the show
Step two ~ Figure out some way I could have a loop machine without spending my life’s savings on expensive equipment (in comes that handy iPad again)
Step three ~ Prepare what I was going to say (A simple notebook with 2 pages of talking points)
Step four ~ Do it!
If I can do it, so can you! Be grateful, share your gratitude, it WILL make peoples day!!
