Celebrating tea making, positive news, and birdsong to help tackle loneliness in lockdown
After carrying out prescription deliveries and weekly phone calls to the elderly in his area, local volunteer 25-year-old Matt Armitage, became aware of the sad reality and scale of loneliness that is felt by many during lockdown, particularly elderly people. To bring a friendly voice and some company into people’s homes, he created a podcast around the nation’s most loved daily ritual, making a cuppa.
Just like enjoying a cup of tea, the 10-20 minute audio break is a comforting and warm experience, to add some companionship and much needed calmness, amidst these strange and difficult times. Alongside the brew, are interesting and soothing soundscapes, adding something extra special to the tea break. It might be a nice story or poem, some ‘tea-rivia’, a whimsical thought, the sounds of nature or picking up the guitar, it’s wherever his portable mic and his musings take him. Matt has also gathered his friends to help, banding together musicians, designers and storytellers, to showcase a youthful spirit and tapestry of soothing sounds for anyone feeling lonely during this time.
