Bronze to Mythic (Standard Constructed: April 2021)
Exiled from the planes, my spark reignited. Only this time, the first resource that welcomed me was surprisingly the field of Mountains. My friends were really surprised as I picked up the deck due to the fact that I always favor playing Island based decks (Ban Island). But nonetheless, Mono Red Snow Aggro (RDW) is really well positioned in this current diverse metagame (Kudos to the designers).
Matchups:
UB Rouges:
Mono Red Snow Aggro scales well against UB Rouges as they boast cards that mills your deck and you have early threats that ticks them off guard. Siding in Ox and Phoenix of Ash really snowballs the matchup.
On the Draw: +2 Ox of Agonas, +1 Phoenix of Ash, +1 Scorching Dragonfire; -2 Rimrock Knight, -2 Robber of the Rich
On the Play: +2 Ox of Agonas, +1 Phoenix of Ash; -3 Rimrock Knight
Sultai Yorion:
Sultai Yorion I believe is the most explosive deck in the diverse format as it has access to all cards necessary to win. But like all Yorion decks, consistency is always an issue due to it’s 80 card deck (The deck fights against itself). Given the scenario against this deck, if Sultai Yorion has the right answer to all your threats. Just be a sport and accept it. Sideboarding against it, go for The Akroan War as they always have Elder Gargaroths.
On the Draw: +3 The Akroan War, +1 Phoenix of Ash; -1/0 Robber of the Rich, -3/4 Frostbite (I tend not to side out all Frostbite due to other builds have the Crew 4 token Duplicator)
On the Play: +3 The Akroan War, +1 Phoenix of Ash; -1/0 Rimrock Knight, -3/4 Frostbite
Temur Adventures:
Temur Adventures boasts its consistency. This matchup is the worst against all meta decks as they have access to early huge blockers such as Lovestruck Beast and Bonecrusher Giant. I give Mono Red Snow Deck a 40:60 odd to win against this matchup.
On the Draw: +3 The Akroan War, +2 Soul Sear; -1 Phoenix of Ash (Side this out due to the Brazen Borrower), -2 Robber of the Rich, -2 Rimrock Knight
On the Play: +3 The Akroan War, +2 Soul Sear; -1 Phoenix of Ash, -3 Rimrock Knight, -1 Fireblade Charger
Mirror:
More people are picking up Mono Red Snow Aggro due to its resiliency. I suggest picking this deck up until the metagame has not yet adjusted to big creature decks like Gruul Aggro.
On the Draw: +2 The Akroan War, +3 Redcap Melee, +2 Scorching Dragonfire, +1 Soul Sear; -3 Rimrock Knight, -3 Robber of the Rich (It’ll surprise them sometimes if you have 1 of Robber), -1 Phoenix of Ash, -1 Embercleave
