Update: BRADENTON, Fla. — A Bradenton High School teacher was removed from the classroom after a viral TikTok showed him berating a Latino student who apparently did not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The Manatee County School District confirmed the man shown in the video was removed from the classroom on Wednesday, but would not share Mr. Rieber's identity. A statement from the school district said the teacher no longer has contact with students and the district’s Office of Professional Standards is investigating the incident. “The School District of Manatee County strongly condemns any language or behavior that degrades, humiliates or insults any individuals,” The school district said in a statement. “Most especially the young people, families and community we have the privilege of serving.”

A Morgan County school bus driver has been arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery after being caught on video pushing two young students during a dispute on Friday, Sept. 9. James O’Neil, a bus driver with the Morgan County Charter School System since 2020, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 16, and spent the day in the Morgan County Detention Center before bonding out to await trial. According to Nene Carter, the mother of the children who were pushed, O’Neil allegedly told her six-year-old son to sit in the back of the bus, despite the fact that primary school students usually sit in the front of the bus away from the older high school students riding the bus in the back. O’Neil was fired from the school system earlier this week as local law enforcement investigated the matter. “The investigation resulted in the arrest of James O’Neil on two counts of simple battery,” said Morgan County Chief Deputy Keith Howard. “While this was not a complex investigation, it was complicated by the allegation that the incident was perceived as being racially motivated.” Howard said the investigators reviewed three separate videos of the incident, two filmed by students aboard the bus and the official footage from the bus security camera. The Carters also claim that the school system’s transportation manager, Alicia Lord, did not take complaints against O’Neil seriously in the past or in the latest incident caught on video. The Carters claim Lord ignored multiple complaints against this particular bus driver in the past from multiple families. Lord declined to comment, citing that the matter is currently confidential due to an ongoing investigation involving personnel. Nene and Blake Carter, the children’s parents, credit the community and online pressure for the O’Neil’s firing and arrest.

A Portland, Oregon mother who found a homeless woman in her son's bed was blindsided a second time when the city's district attorney let the intruder go within 24 hours. Kelsey Smith, from Northeast Portland, first knew something was amiss when she heard her dogs barking in a bedroom and went to investigate. She initially thought her husband was playing a prank on her, but within moments quickly realized someone had broken into her home to hide out. After backing out of the room and calling for help, Smith was bum rushed by the intruder, who had picked up an ottoman and threw it at her before leaving the home. Police later identified the culprit as Lynn Zinser, 54, who was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office jail on charges of burglary and harassment. But, no sooner than she had been arrested, her charges were dropped and she was free to walk the streets of the town once again. Zinser's bail was set at a baffling $0 with the District Attorney's Office who said to be gathering more evidence before they move forward with any further charges against her.
