Day 8 of 22 - Wray Ray - Business Man

15 crew members and 6 actors, which equals 22 talented people!

Get ready for 22 days of an inside look at the extraordinary team that was a part of making Existent Dream's first project of the year.

Day 1- Premal Badiani - Costume Designer
Day 2 - Ally Hoover - Director of Photography
Day 3 - Paula A-b & PK Kiser - Light Being Characters
Day 4 - Erica Ja-Kī - 1900's/Victorian Woman Character

Day 6 of 22 - Jennifer Yates - Lead Hair and Makeup artist
Day 7 of 22 - Amanda Medina - Set Dresser/Set Design

Day 8 of 22 - Wray Ray - Business Man

Anthony Wray was one of my unplanned surprises. When we first talked, he was initially coming on board as crew, but I needed to fill a position that he fit the description for, and I remembered seeing a headshot of him somewhere, and I thought to myself, I think he might act as well.

So when I approached him and asked whether he acted, he said, "Yea, I act," and in such a nonchalant way, I was caught off guard when I called action. Wray was a pleasant surprise. Even during rehearsal, I could not see the full magnitude of the levels Wray could reach. When it was time for his close-up, I called action maaaaan; let me tell you, everything we discussed came through crystal clear. Amazing talent!

Wray is a pleasant humorous person and worked as a grip on this project as well. When he finished all of his parts, he took his suit off and started helping the production from a crew standpoint again. His presence and work were greatly appreciated and needed.

Check out this unedited screenshot of Anthony in his role.

Day 7 of 22 - Amanda Medina - Set Dresser/Set Design

I am s grateful for Amanda when I say she came through and absolutely fixed ALL the problems I had with set design; it still feels like an understatement. Amanda is a true gem; I'm so grateful she was available and literally saved the day. I had previously reached out to a couple of people who really couldn't help in the way I needed them to, so I started going through my phone book, desperately searching for someone.

Set dressing was one of the areas I was trying to handle independently. I kept convincing myself it'll be fine and I could do it... it turns out I couldn't do it, lol. It was just too much to add to my full plate. After reaching out to a couple people who really couldn't help in the way I needed them to, I started going through my phone book, desperately searching for someone.

I literally contacted Amanda two days before the shoot day in a straight panic, and she calmly said to me, flower wall, 1900's candle, I can do it.

I sent her the script she called me back an hour later to discuss the vision. I got a text from her like 30 minutes later with a picture of a 1900s candle, that I desperately needed. Like seriously, how does anyone find something like that so fast 😂 She literally swooped in like a superwoman and did everything with a snap of the finger. I swear she's magic.

I just love her whole mentality of we are how now, and we are going to figure it out. Amanda is super resourceful, there was a part written in the script that required ashes, and she asked me how did I plan to do that part. I told her I took it out because I didn't know what to do about it.

The video I have attached in the comments is of Amanda and Joselyn Ochoa Ortega smashing up coal and oreo cookies to make ash 😭💖💖. I absolutely love her creativity, dedication, and resourcefulness. I remember her looking at me and saying, if you wrote it, you obviously want it and were going to do it😭😭 (tears of joy, love, and happiness)

Amanda is an amazing person to work with and has an upbeat personality. If you ask me about a set dresser, I will 100% recommend her every time.

Day 6 of 22 - Jennifer Yates - Lead Hair and Makeup artist

Jennifer Yates is a beautiful soul. I've had the pleasure of working with her on a few projects. She always comes fully loaded, prepared to do hair/makeup, and adds her splash of creativity.

I love how she comes in and sets the vibe in her makeup space. I remember grabbing a snack from the crafty table just bobbing my head away to some jams, and I thought, wait, when did we get music back here. Then I see Jennifer in her space with music going and making her makeup magic happen.

Anyone who comes close to the vicinity of a makeup station that Jennifer is running will get some type of compliment or warm smile. She is excellent at not only making people look beautiful but feel beautiful as well.

This lady is always on the go, so if you want her, schedule her in now, lol. When we discussed the project, the date I needed her required her to fly out late at night from another gig and start early in the morning on the Existent Dreams project.

Leaving late, starting early, and then adding traveling to the mix is a lot, but because Jennifer is such a rock star, she went the extra mile and was able to be there for the production to fulfill our hair and makeup needs.

I love her dedication to her craft and how she makes everyone who sits in her chair feel beautiful.

Please go check out her beautiful creations on Instagram @

Day 5 of 22 - Darius Monte Evans - Gaffer

Darius Evans was such an integral part of this team. This man has an AMAZING work ethic and was the backbone of the production. Everyone called his name sooooooo much on set I'm surprised he did not change it at the end lol.

The only time he was able to sit down was during lunch. He was on the move from the start of the day until the last piece of equipment was loaded in the truck.

I admire and appreciate his patience with me and his positive reinforcement/ encouragement towards his team of grips. He really put in a lot of work, and no matter the challenge or level of difficulty combined with the time of night, he always remained patient and positive.

His technical knowledge and his level of problem-solving have spoiled me. I leaned on him so much I'm surprised I still remember how to turn on a lamp 😂.

He always paused to take a moment to explain to me what was happening if I was confused or uncertain if the right actions were taking place. Let me tell you, I'm not the most tech-savvy, especially when it comes to lighting. I just know when something doesn't look or feel right. He was fixing things to match what I saw in my head with vague tech information. He had to decode my feelings about a scene (lol) to get his answer if I felt something wasn't right.

Darius always had a solution, which is one of the things I love about him the most. He never said we couldn't do that, and he had solutions and options for everything.

Also, I can not leave this post without saying he's an amazing photographer. Check him out! www.dmeimagery.com

Thanks for everything, bro. You're a real one 💪🏿🙏🏿

There will be no day 5 of 22 today. I want to take a time out to acknowledge and express love to those suffering in Ukraine today. If you stop by this page today, please read this pray for our fellow human beings. It will literally take an alien invasion for us to figure out a humane way to do things. We live on a wide piece of dirt with imaginary lines we drew down. I think we can imagine something better.

Day 4 of 22 - Erica Ja-Kī - 1900's/Victorian Woman Character

Erica Ja-Kai is truly a talented soul. I love how she can dive into the character with no regrets. Her entire scene relied on her pulling the audience into her; I mean, there was not much going on within the setting for her to rely on. It was her and just a candlestick half of the time.

Embodying the sense of love and capturing THAT moment and not even being equipped with dialogue is a talent within itself. Her moments on-screen definitely defined the term "less is more."

You had some very powerful moments, Erica, and I'm so proud of the outcome! I keep re-watching this clip of you and Eli Walker that I'm completely in love with; I'm glad to have had you in this role.

Check out this BTS photo David Superville took in between setups.

Day 3 of 22 Paula A-b & PK Kiser - Light Being Characters

The Light Being characters are portrayed by some of my favorite human beings!

When you have people in your life that you don't talk to every day, but every time you hit them up, it's the same support and same love; you're winning!

I hit up these two ladies on different occasions and was basically like, hey umm, I'm doing a project and would like you to portray these characters. I sent them pics of the hair and makeup idea, and that was it. I posted a photo of their responses just for nostalgia purposes. The grace these two ladies gave to their characters was lovely to see. 🥰🥰🥰

I appreciate both of you ladies for allowing me to disturb your busy lives to come out and be a part of this project.

Paula, who is a tech person/actress/ninja? Lol, I don't know the correct titles. I just know she is the one to call if your computer breaks or if you need a website built or you find yourself needing fight choreography/actress in one of your dope scenes. I'm not even joking. I was working as a production secretary on a project, and my entire job was dependent on my computer. Well, my laptop wasn't working, I called Paula, and she did some weird tech stuff, lol, and fixed my laptop from her house while I was still at work with my computer...genius.

Portia, AKA Pk, runs an entire clothing business .bespoiledfashionboutique.com. She is always my go-to person with my hair needs, and it's usually an emergency because when I'm doing something, I always think of myself last and end up hitting her up in a panic. Fantastic person to have on set for your hair needs. She is experienced with all textures, but I must throw out there that she is also skilled in African-American naturally textured hair. We all know it's a lack going on right now with people who know how to handle AA's naturally textured hair, so hit her up!

I say all this to emphasize once more that I know you are two busy boss ladies, and I deeply appreciate you taking the time out to make this vision happen. Love you both!

Day 2 of 22

Allyson Hoover- Director of Photography

The Hoov is on the move (I just thought of that, lol)
I would love to have some great story of how Ally and I connected through some organic mystical way, but that's not how it happened. I hunted her down. 😂

I worked with Ally on a couple of larger shows and remembered seeing her in passing and always received good vibes. So after sending a few people I haven't spoken to in a while awkward text messages that said, "Hey do you know the name of the black girl with dreads in the camera dept." I received a name and proceeded to stalk her on FB. Then I reached out, and lucky for me, she was down and was looking to work on more independent films. Yes! Dp secured!

Ally's dedication to her title and the project was much needed, and I would have had a hard time making it out of pre-production with a shot list without her.

While we were meeting about the shot list and setting meetings to talk about the vision and lighting, she worked on another show in Atlanta. If anyone is unfamiliar with the film industry, we bust out 12 hour days and sometimes more. To work a full day and then go into another meeting fully prepared is dedication. She even suggested having a meeting during her lunch break one time. Talk about to the craft.

As a director, it was a massive deal for me and a pleasure to work with a DP that fully understood the vision and embraced it as their own. It was relaxing and reassuring not having a power struggle to stay true to the vision I saw. Ally embraced the vision and made it her own by adding her expertise and making every original thought better... She Hooved it ( I wish I would have thought of all these terms while I was on set.😂 I will have to use Hooved it on the next one, lol).

Yes, I intentionally added the pic of both of us rocking our Bantu knots hairstyle .

Check out these pics of Ally Hoover working her magic on the black magic cinema camera 6k model.

Photo creds: David Superville (who wanted to let me know these fabulous pics aren't edited yet...such a perfectionist)
