Meet Chef Asif Sarkar, Retail and Catering Sous Chef, for our Aladdin Campus Dining at the UW Oshkosh, where not only does he enjoy working alongside the culinary team, but he also loves sharing his passion for great food, and its ability to bring people together!
Growing up as a child in India, Chef Asif was always utterly captivated by all things culinary. He used to spend time with his mom, watching her cook in the kitchen, and he always marveled at her ability to create shared experiences through her cooking. He tells us, “we had many family gatherings that revolved around food. My parents had the phrase 'atithi devo bhava,' which means ‘a guest is equal to God’”. This phrase speaks to the idea that one must always respect their guests and serve them as best as you can. Chef Asif tells us, “I strongly believe in this and always try my best to offer the best quality food and service to our guests”.
Today, Asif continues the tradition of serving great food that creates a sense of community at UW-Oshkosh, where he organizes the Taste of Nations. An event, which showcases cuisines from around the world, as well as the cultures that they are connected to. Chef Asif tells us, “we serve dishes from a specific country and members of the community share presentations about the country's food and culture”.
The event has been very well-received and has become one of the most popular events among the UWO community! Asif feels incredibly honored to be a part of the team organizing this event and also tributes its success to the support the team has received from District Manager, Steven Godard, and Catering Manager, Monica Cisler.
We appreciate Chef Asif's contributions to the team and love how he is bringing his passion for people and food together at events like the Taste of Nations.
