Police Operation takes 350 illegal weapons out of circulation and lead to the arrest of 18 individuals.
Following a complex investigation supported by Europol, the Dutch National Police (Politie) together with the Czech National Organised Crime Agency (Národní centrála proti organizovanému zločinu) and the Slovak National Crime Agency (Národná kriminálna agentúra) swooped on a gun trafficking gang, arresting 6 of its members this past month in the framework of Operational Taskforce LOS.
The criminal syndicate under investigation specialised in the conversion of so-called Flobert guns into lethal live-firing ones. They are believed to have supplied over 1 500 firearms to criminal groups in the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
Since then, over 350 weapons sold by these criminals have been recovered, including submachine guns and assault rifles, alongside several thousand rounds of ammunition. Twelve other suspects have also already been arrested in the framework of this Taskforce for their involvement in this illegal-gun running operation.

On 14 December 2020, Europol supported the Spanish National Police (Policiá National) to take down a large Russian-speaking high-risk organized crime network involved in corruption and money laundering in Spain.
The large-scale criminal network, implicated in a number of other criminal activities including murder, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, trafficking of human beings and extortion was active across Europe, South America and the United States. Given the high hierarchical position of those investigated, this operation, which began in 2013, is the largest against the Russian-speaking top-level organized crime in Spain in the past 10 years.
The large-scale criminal network managed to infiltrate various Spanish public institutions. One of the main targets was able to carry out philanthropic activities in these public institutions, which allowed the criminal group to penetrate the administration. This enabled the network to carry out their business with impunity, overcome legal obstacles and receive a series of administrative favours including protection from police and judicial investigations and facilitation of the acquisition of Spanish residence for the clients of the criminal organization. Among those ‘investing’ in the group’s activities were eastern European criminals of the highest authority in the underworld – known as ‘thieves-in-law.’ Lawyers, officials, politicians, businesspeople and hackers were connected to the network, increasing their operational capabilities.
The investigation uncovered how the criminal leaders contacted the investigated individuals to carry out money laundering operations. These activities included various investment projects such as land acquisition to develop luxury real estate projects, and purchasing restaurants, industrial warehouses, plots and boats. To launder the foreign assets the group used a network of bogus companies established in different counties, including South America. The criminals used adv

Likewise, it was found that these people were Syrian citizens who lacked training or qualifications for maritime tasks, although during the journey, apparently, they had been forced to work on the ship under exploitative labor conditions.
After several months on board and, fearing that the promise to arrive on European territory would not be fulfilled and that, finally, they would be disembarked in an Arab country that could mean their return to their countries of origin, they forged a plan to abandon the boat.
Modus operandi:
From the analysis of the information obtained, it has been possible to determine that the modus operandi began with the recruitment of citizens of Syrian origin and people from other conflict zones, who were offered their transfer to Europe for about 13,000 euros.
To do this, they would have acquired a cattle ship, under the flag of a third country, giving fictitious marine tasks to the migrants, thereby exceeding the number of personnel necessary for this type of maritime transport.
Collaboration between European agencies has revealed that the aforementioned ship would have changed its name up to three times, to make it difficult to track and monitor by the different police forces.
The operation has been carried out by units of the Provincial Maritime Service, the Information Group, the Office of Analysis and Investigation (ODAIFI) of the Fiscal Service and Citizen Security of the Civil Guard, with the support of the Corporation of Practices of Port of Car
