Climate change poses a serious threat to pregnant women, babies and children which calls for urgent attention, said a UN report ahead of the global Conference of the Parties (COP28) negotiations on climate change in Dubai.
The report, named Call for Action, said climate change effects on maternal and child health have been neglected, underreported and underestimated.
Chief Meteorologist Chaudhry Aslam said Tuesday that artificial rain is expected in Punjab’s capital of Lahore next month and preparations are underway for it as the government ups its efforts to curb smog.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday reserved the verdict on the intra-court appeal filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan against the jail trial in the cipher case.
A division bench comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz reserved the verdict on the plea which will be announced at around 5:30pm today.
Justice Aurangzeb, during the hearing, said that a short order on the appeal will be announced today, adding that the detailed order will be issued later.

The Central General Council meeting of JUI-F on Monday has re-elected Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as central Ameer and general secretary of the party for another five-year tenure.

The body of a woman was found inside a water drum in an empty plot in the Phase VII area of Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority, police and hospital officials said on Saturday.
Defence Police Station House Officer (SHO) Shaukat Awan told Dawn.com that the body of the unidentified woman — wrapped in a plastic bag — was recovered from the water drum on an empty plot near Fatima Masjid.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the woman had been murdered, he added, but he was awaiting the coroner’s findings to make a definitive comment.

Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed announced the Haj Policy 2024, slashing the expenses for the holy sojourn by Rs100,000 compared to last year, The News reported Friday.

In response to a query from the Religious Affairs Ministry, the CII said there was a provision in sharia for a woman to perform Hajj or Umrah without a mahram, according to the Jafria, Maliki and Shafi’i schools of thought.
The ministry had earlier sought the council's opinion on the matter, after which the constitutional body responded via a written reply which read that a woman whose parents or husband allow her, could go for Hajj without a mahram, as per the Jafria, Maliki and Shafi’i schools of thought.
