Hey folks! This is the last official 'Beyond a Song' radio show. You may have missed it on Saturday afternoons locally in Bloomington on WFHB. The Beyond a Song website will continue to have our PRX archive available, and you can listen online here as well, like usual.
We've been on the air since 2005 on various radio stations here in Indiana, as well as in the US, and globally, starting with 'In Search of a Song' with host Jason Wilber. Jason was an integral part of so much great music in his 24 years with John Prine, and a wonderful guitarist, and singer/songwriter. We got to interview all kinds of amazing musicians, like John Prine, Del McCoury and 'The Travelin' McCourys', Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earle , Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Adrian Belew, Todd Rundgren, Arlo Guthrie, Emmy Lou Harris, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Sam Bush, The Wailers, Todd Snyder, Billy Strings, Pete Best, among many, many others. Between ISOAS and Beyond a Song, I've recorded, hosted and edited over 800 one hour long shows! And the insights gained in talking with so many folks in the music industry has been just astounding. We've lost some greats, like John Prine, Eric Taylor, Peter Cooper... but in recording interviews with them, I'd like to feel like we documented and preserved some important stories and moments with some really great artists.
I'd like to thank WFHB in Bloomington for the opportunity to contribute to our hometown community radio station! I always enjoyed WFHB and especially foundational figures like Rich Fish, and Jim Manion. I now realize just how profound my whole experience with the shows expanded into hundreds of side-alleys that contained boundless worldwide treasure.
Lastly, I'd like to let you know that the show is ending as a formal PRX (Public Radio Exchange) formated radio program, but will be morphing again into a podcast format, and will be called 'Two Good Ears'.
In the past few years, I started noticing that sometimes I spent hours talking with an artist, simply about music. It always started with my first question 'what is your earlies memory of music', which inevitably started out the night we watched 'The Ed Sullivan Show' in 1963... and a half hour later, we realized we were talking about the Beatles and not the artist anymore. lol! So now with the large archive of interviews, we'll be discussing some of those artists, featuring clips, and also including interviews about artists lives and music. We are working on the details now, and will launch 'Two Good Ears' soon. We are discussing how to continue working with WFHB with TGE Podcast, soon also!
Thanks for being listeners, and I hope we will continue to grow together and participate in that spiritual language we call music.
-Rich Reardin
