The new Triumph Tiger 660 Sport is based on the Triumph Trident 660 naked streetfighter and it will sit below the Tiger Sport 850 in the company’s India line-up. Talking about the design, it has a muscular front fascia with twin sharp LED headlamps and a tall visor. The adventure bike gets a large 17-litre fuel tank, a single-piece seat, and a stubby exhaust.

The colour shades include Lucerne Blue with Sapphire Black, Korosi Red with Graphite, and Graphite with Black shade. Talking about the powertrain, it gets a 660cc, liquid-cooled, inline-3 cylinder engine, which is identical to the Trident 660. However, the company says it has been tuned a bit differently. This motor develops 80 hp of power at 10,250 RPM and 64 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Though the new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is based on the Trident 660, this adventure tourer sports a different sub-fsramer along with a long-travel suspension. In terms of features, it gets a Bluetooth-enabled digital instrument cluster, two riding modes – Road and Rain, switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, and an optional bi-directional quick-shifter.

So how is the new Yamaha Wolverine RMAX2 1000 Sport different from the rest of the two-seat Wolverine RMAX lineup? It stars with the suspension. The RMAX2 1000 Sport is outfitted with FOX 2.0 shocks that Yamaha says are “designed to deliver quality damping feel at higher speeds, without sacrificing low-speed comfort.”

The new shocks offer up 24 clicks of high- and low-speed compression adjustment, dual springs, and a crossover coupling adjustable pre-load. The result is sportier handling with improved high-speed bottoming resistance.

As well, the Wolverine RMAX2 1000 Sport provides 13.8 inches of ground clearance, 14.2 inches of front suspension travel, and 16.9 inches of rear suspension travel.

This machine has a square tire set up, which means the same size tires front and rear – 30-inch GBC Terra Master 10-ply rated radial tires. These tires boast an asymmetrical design to suit different types of terrain. Side A, the stock set up, comes with a larger void ratio with horizontal lugs – ideal for soft to intermediate terrain. Side B has a smaller void ratio with circumferential grooves for next level grip in the corners and a larger contact patch designed for intermediate to hard surfaces.

18/09/2021

Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off its first all-electric series production model, the EQS 53 4Matic+. With a twin-motor set-up offering up to 751hp, it will take on the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi RS E-tron GT.

To be followed by a range of AMG EVs

Can do 0-100kph in 3.4sec

Top speed limited to 220kph on standard, 250kph on Dynamic Plus variants

Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4Matic+: first of many more

The new luxury performance sedan from Mercedes-AMG will serve as the flagship model for both, the EQS range and Mercedes-Benz’s line-up of bespoke electric cars. It will be followed by a range of AMG EVs, including hot versions of other EQ models built on the EVA2 platform, as well as dedicated AMG models using the AMG.EA architecture.

The EQS 53 incorporates extensive technical changes from regular versions of the electric limo, including an AMG-specific electric performance motor mounted on each axle. The motors feature new windings, stronger currents and new actuation via inverters, which allows for higher rotational speeds within the unit.

These upgrades have allowed AMG to boost the power and torque of the permanently synchronous motors. Standard EQS 53 models will offer 649hp, while those fitted with the Dynamic Plus package will have a Race Start mode that can increase output to 751hp. In that mode, the EQS 53 can cover 0-100kph in 3.4sec – 0.4sec quicker than the standard time. The top speed is limited to 220kph on standard models and 250kph on Dynamic Plus cars.

Power is stored in a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery with a 400V architecture, which features bespoke AMG wiring to aid performance and offer a range of 326 to 360 km, depending on spec. The battery management system has been customised for the EQS 53, enabling greater performance in Sport and Sport+ driving modes. When driving, three levels of energy recuperation are available using switches on the steering wheel. The battery can be charged at speeds of up to 200kW on a fast charger.

As with the regular EQS, the new model’s suspension features multi-link front and rear axles, although AMG says it has redeveloped any components that have “an influence on the driving dynamics”, including the rear axle beam and both the subframe and the motor mountings.

The car is equipped with AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension, which combines with electronically controlled active dampers and standard rear-axle steering. As with the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, the air suspension set-up has two pressure relief valves that, AMG claims, allow the damping force to be adjusted “even more precisely” to different driving conditions. The suspension system can also analyse sensor data to alter the damping force.

The model features a range of AMG driving modes, which adjust the suspension, handling, power delivery and battery management, as well as changing the synthesised sound to suit. There is a choice of 21-inch or 22-inch wheels, with high-performance AMG brakes as standard. Larger ceramic brakes are optional. New AMG modes are available as part of the standard EQS Sound Experience system and include a Performance setting for Dynamic Plus models that adds “event sounds” for all vehicle functions.

The EQS 53 sports a number of bespoke AMG styling elements, many of which reflect the tuning arm’s classic design traits. These include a bespoke black panel front grille with ‘hot-stamped’ chrome vertical struts, and a reworked front bumper and apron. While the new machine matches the 0.23Cd of the regular EQS, AMG says it has conducted wind tunnel testing to optimise the airflow, hence the reworked rear diffuser, side air intakes and a bigger rear spoiler

The ID. family model for the small car segment from VW will cost approximately € 20,000. The ID. LIFE concept car, presented at the International Motor Show IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich, gives an impression of how a vehicle of this type would look.

Ralf Brandstätter, CEO, Volkswagen brand, said, “The ID. LIFE is our vision of next-generation fully electric urban mobility. The concept car provides a preview of an ID. model in the small car segment that we will be launching in 2025, priced at around 20,000 euros. In creating the ID. LIFE, we have consistently focused on the needs of younger customers. We believe that, even more so than today, the car of the future will be about lifestyle and personal expression. The customer of tomorrow won’t simply want to get from A to B; they will be much more interested in the experiences that a car can offer. The ID. LIFE is our answer to this.”

Based on a smaller variant of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), the ID. LIFE has been developed specifically for the small car segment. This is the first time a vehicle based on the MEB has front-wheel drive. With its 172 kW (234 PS) electric motor, the vehicle accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, while its 57 kWh high-voltage battery enables a range of some 400 kilometres (WLTP).

The sustainable character of the ID. LIFE is reflected particularly in the choice of materials and paint finishes. In the clear coat for the bodywork, wood chips are used as a natural colouring agent and a bio-based hardener. The air chamber textile for the roof and the front cover is made from 100% recycled PET bottles. In the interior, wood in the dashboard and rear seat surrounds is combined with ArtVelours Eco for the seat surfaces and door trims. Bio-oil, natural rubber and rice husks are some materials that serve as a basis for the tyres on the ID. LIFE.

The interior of the car is designed to be a reliable companion for digital experiences of various kinds. For example, it can be converted into a cinema or gaming lounge in no time at all. The vehicle comes with a video game console and projector and a projection screen that extends from the dash panel when required. Other devices can be connected as needed to the 230-volt / 16-amp power supply in the interior.

The car is provided with a flexible seating arrangement to make it a companion for all situations and lifestyles. The front seat bench can be completely folded down, as can the rear seat bench. This enables several possibilities, from cinema seating to a bed measuring around two metres in length to a cargo version that maximises luggage volume.

Cameras and a display replace both the exterior and interior mirrors. Essential driving functions are controlled via a touch panel on the hexagonal, open-topped steering wheel, and a smartphone can be integrated into the operating system.

Hyundai Vision FK design

The Vision FK may feature some futuristic technology, but its design is clearly that of a relatively conventional sporty two-door coupe.

Obscured by full-body camouflage, the Vision FK looks quite similar to the existing Kia Stinger (Hyundai and Kia are part of the same company) albeit with only two doors and an air intake just ahead of each rear wheel arch.

Hyundai Vision FK revealed

Hydrogen-powered hybrid sports car

670hp from fuel cell/plug-in hybrid

0-62mph in under 4 seconds

A range of 375 miles possible

More hydrogen-powered cars

Hyundai has revealed its plans to introduce hydrogen power to its entire commercial fleet, as well as in a range of new ca koirs, previewed by this Vision FK concept.

This low-slung two-door coupe gives you an idea of what future high-performance hydrogen-powered sports cars from Hyundai could look like in the future.

Hyundai Vision FK hydrogen fuel cell and motors

The Vision FK combines a hydrogen fuel cell with a battery pack partly developed by hypercar-builder Rimac.

Together, these power a pair of rear-mounted electric motors (also tweaked by Rimac) that produce around 670hp. This is enough for the Vision FK to sprint from 0-60mph in fewer than 4 seconds.

Hyundai Vision FK range

The Hyundai Vision FK has a 375-mile range with its hydrogen tank brimmed and a fully charged battery – that’s about 75 miles more than you get from a Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Hyundai hasn’t confirmed how long the battery takes to charge, but refuelling with hydrogen takes a matter of minutes – much like filling a car with petrol or diesel.

07/09/2021

The BMW i Vision Circular is BMW's idea of an electric compact car in 2040, geared toward reducing components and using recycled material.

The car's body is made from a mix of recycled aluminum and steel, while the kidney grille and side window trim are replaced by digital surfaces.

The interior features relaxing colors, a 3D-printed steering wheel, and an odd but beautiful crystal interface in place of a traditional center console.

At around 157 inches long, the four-seat concept is about 20 inches shorter than the 2-series Gran Coupe, BMW's smallest current offering in the United States. However, its electric powertrain and one-box, pod-style profile mean the i Vision Circular is spacious inside. The concept's main priority is in reducing the number of components overall and using recycled materials for the parts that remain. The concept wound up 100 percent recyclable, including the solid-state battery which itself is manufactured almost entirely from recycled material. BMW's sustainability philosophy is found at the car's core: it avoids bonded connections and composite materials for the vehicle's construction, instead opting for cords, press studs, and quick-release fasteners, making it easier to break down and re-recycle.

Most of the body is built from recycled aluminum with a light-gold anodized finish, but it morphs into a deep blue color at the heat-treated steel rear end. The kidney grille becomes a digital element with a snazzy graphic that attempts to emulate traditional BMW grilles. Instead of chrome trim around the window edges, a digital surface wraps up and into BMW's famed Hofmeister kink, and BMW says this could be used to display vehicle information to approaching passengers. The trim pieces along the bottom of the concept are recycled plastic with a marbled look and BMW says that the tires, which have a slight blue tint, are composed of sustainably cultivated natural rubber.

The new Volkswagen ID.4 GTX has been revealed as the new sporty flagship of the firm’s electric car line-up. The ID.4 GTX features both performance and cosmetic updates.

ID.4 GTX gets cosmetic upgrades outside and in.

The dual electric motors produce a combined 299hp.

The 77kWh battery can provide a claimed range of up to 480km

Volkswagen GTX range: explained

This range-topping ID.4 GTX will be the first ID model to use the new GTX badge; the GTX range of performance EVs will sit alongside VW’s established GTI, GTE and GTD product lines, with a focus on accessible performance. While the GTI line is centred around the Golf, Volkswagen has chosen to use the ID.4 for the first GTX model because of both, the growing importance of the SUV market and the decision to use a twin-motor powertrain, which the smaller ID.3 hatch is unable to accommodate.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX: design

The ID.4 GTX features a number of bespoke styling elements to differentiate it from the regular ID.4, including GTX badges, high-gloss black air intake grilles, a black roof and rear spoiler, and an Anthracite roof bar. The rear bumper is a new design and there’s a unique insert on the rear diffuser too. The front LED lights feature an exclusive design, while the rear LED light clusters are styled to create an X-shaped brake light.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX: interiors and features

The interior features a bespoke colour scheme, with dark blue dashboard panels and leatherette door inserts, and red contrasting stitching - although it doesn’t have a version of the tartan trim used for the GTI, GTE and GTD models. Premium sports seats are also optional.

A range of trim packs similar to the regular ID.4's will also be offered, with higher-end models including features such as a 12.0-inch touchscreen in place of the standard-fit 10.0-inch screen.

An optional Sports pack will lower the ride height by 15mm compared with the regular ID.4 and add a progressive steering. The Sports Plus pack adds DDC adaptive chassis control - as available on Volkswagen's full-fat R models - which manages the shock absorbers to offer a firmer, sportier ride.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX: powertrain

The GTX’s powertrain comprises a permanent magnet synchro machine (PSM) on the rear axle, and an asynchronous motor (ASM) on the front axle. The two motors combined produce 299hp; Volkswagen has yet to confirm the torque output. The system can power the ID.4 GTX from rest to 100kph in 6.2sec, with top speed limited to 180kph.

The all-wheel drive system is computer-controlled and determines how to use the available torque to balance efficiency, dynamic performance and stability. The default is to send the power to the rear axle alone, with the front motor used only when increased traction and performance are required.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX: battery and range

The model features a 24-cell 77kWh lithium-ion battery – the largest available for the ID.4 – which weighs 486kg, offers a claimed range of up to 480km and can be topped up using regenerative energy under braking. Five driving profiles will be offered, including a dedicated Sport setting.

The new Volkswagen ID.4 GTX has been revealed as the new sporty flagship of the firm’s electric car line-up. The ID.4 GTX features both performance and cosme...

04/09/2021

Let’s face it, there are probably more KLR’s roaming the earth than any other mid-sized ADV/dual-sport model ever produced…and for good reason. It’s a simple, affordable, easy to own go-anywhere motorcycle. All-in-all, the improvements were what this model needed for a while now and made for a better riding experience.

Sure, we would have liked a sixth gear added but the revised five-speed actually does a good job carrying speeds of 70-80 MPH with decent comfort for extended pavement pounding sessions. Perhaps replacing a doohickey for peace of mind will be a signature common bond between all KLR riders, but ultimately these and other upgrades (like adding a Versys 650 engine) would have come with additional cost and design time.

At the end of the day, while it may not have been what everyone was dreaming about, Kawasaki managed to bring a hefty amount of very welcome updates to an already legendary platform without much, if any, price increase. We’d say that’s a great success for many new and returning adventure riders out there. Fact is, aside from Suzuki’s out dated DR650, there are currently no new bikes which compete in this size and price range. While they could have gone bigger, faster and more expensive, we feel there’s no shortage of riders out there who will appreciate the 2022 Kawasaki KLR650 for exactly what it is: an affordable, fun, friendly and reliable way to explore the world.

2022 Kawasaki KLR650 Specifications:

2022 Genesis G70 Heats Up the Sports-Sedan Segment

Genesis has given its entry-luxury G70 sedan a makeover for 2022, which includes updated front and rear styling as well as interior tweaks that bring the car visually into line with the new G80 sedan and GV80 SUV. Genesis has also addressed one of our complaints inside the G70 for 2022 with a new, larger, and more premium-looking infotainment display. The G70's optional six-speed manual transmission has been discontinued.

Even the higher-end versions of the G70 represent a good value when compared to rival sports sedans, so we'd splurge on the Sport Prestige 3.3T model. Not only is the twin-turbo V-6 more powerful, in our testing it was nearly as efficient. The Sport Prestige trim brings just about every high-end feature Genesis has, including a head-up display, upgraded Brembo brakes, a 360-degree exterior camera system, nappa leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a luxury microfiber headliner.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The base G70 2.0T features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that sends 252 horsepower through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels; all-wheel drive is optional. Its engine felt reserved around town, and acceleration times were ordinary. However, our heart skipped a beat when we got behind the wheel of the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 model, with its 365 ponies and 376 lb-ft of torque. We spent some personal time with the rear-drive 3.3T and were smitten by the engine's wave of thrust that sent it from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds in our testing. Regardless of the powertrain configuration, the G70 has expertly balanced ride and handling characteristics. Its suspension smoothed out uneven surfaces, and the sedan remained composed during spirited cornering sessions. The more powerful 3.3T has the benefit of adaptive dampers that allow the driver to firm up the ride if necessary, but every G70 we've driven did a remarkable job of sending information to the driver's hands. Its steering feedback is precise and pleasant, with adjustable effort available by switching among the multiple drive modes.
