Happy Mazingira Day, Kenya!
Today, we celebrate and raise awareness for our environment 🍃

Since most of us will Jin this day by planting tres, let’s understand the difference between planting and growing trees by swiping through the slides – it’s not just about starting but nurturing them to flourish.

The impact of growing trees is immeasurable, from supporting local biodiversity to improving our air and climate. Remember, every day can be a tree planting day!

Save for later 🤗 articles.

In recent years, we’ve seen major fast fashion brands like H&M, Zara, and Uniqlo make headlines for their sustainability initiatives. From eco-friendly collections to funding environmental projects, it seems like they are making great visible steps towards a greener future. But are these efforts sincere or just clever marketing tactics designed to soothe conscious consumers? A while back, I wrote an article about this on https://sustainablefashiontalks.com/fast-fashion-creating-the-problem-and-funding-the-solution/

How should we, as advocates, balance criticism with encouragement to create genuine change?

Ever wondered about the difference between a Trashion Fashion Show and a Recycled Fashion Show?

Trashion Fashion Show - Involves transforming waste materials into high-fashion pieces. It’s all about creativity and raising awareness about the importance of reducing waste. Imagine turning everyday trash into something fabulously wearable! Check by for some exciting Trashion events.

Recycled Fashion Show - Focuses on using recycled fabrics to create beautiful fashion. This approach highlights the importance of recycling and reusing materials to reduce our environmental footprint, while still staying stylish and chic.

Why It Matters? Both of these fashion shows are powerful statements in the movement towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly fashion industry. They challenge traditional fashion norms and encourage us to think differently about consumption and waste.

Dive into our latest post to learn more about how these innovative approaches are making waves in the fashion world.

Spotlight on Sustainable Fashion Innovation

We are happy to share our recent One-on-One interview with the founder of Reclaim Mallorca https://www.reclaimsl.com Sarah Rennison Gwynne-Harris , which will be featured on Sustainable Fashion Talks https://lnkd.in/d68FSDyk and our upcoming YouTube series.

I was curious to know the brand's unique approach to combating the constant demand for newness in fashion. Sarah says Reclaim stands firm, offering a carefully curated selection of bag collections, and resisting the pressure to expand merely for the sake of consumer demand. This steadfast commitment to their values ensures they remain true to their mission.

9th edition of Circular Economy Africa.

3 pages of my notebook is full from this conference.

Time to go back and educate myself more while sharing the knowledge & experience I have.

Hey fam 👋🏾
Sustainable Fashion is achievable if you take your imperfect baby steps. Don’t be discouraged or overwhelmed by big buzzwords and people saying they’ve been “sustainable” longer than you.
If you’re thinking of starting your little journey towards a slow meaningful fashion, START now and learn as you go.
Circular Fashion isn’t the future. It’s now 🫶🏾

We were at .hub with and recently trying to understand why we are the ones are required to come up with textile waste solutions 😳

I have to admit that since I started exploring sustainability in the fashion industry, there has been a huge progress. However, when it comes to , the fashion industry has a lot of work to do. Overconsumption, waste, pollution and exploitation are all associated with fashion. We must take action to make lasting changes - from implementing the EU textile strategy, to revising the Waste Framework Directive, to taxing virgin plastic fibres to manage waste and reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.

According to a recent report by , Recycling companies are often masking the trade of used clothing as a way to reduce waste and help the Global South by suggesting the clothing is re-worn or recycled. However, for 17 items of clothing sent to Kenya annually, up to 8 are too damaged, stained or inappropriate to be used which will end up in landfills contributing to waste and plastic pollution.

What’s the way forward for Kenya and textile waste?
