The Matterhorn has always had a magical appearance, so Zermatt is one of my favorite ski destinations. Playing a set “on the roof of the world” with a view of the Matterhorn and the rising sun, that was the goal. Planning was very difficult as I don't live around the corner and the weather in the mountains is very unpredictable.
The tracks have been specially selected because they fit the location in my opinion. The set starts in the dark, with a few quieter songs and builds up as the sun shines more. The footage comes from my own cameras and is further supplemented with images from the webcams from Switzerland and Italy (credits see below). The result is an ode to the Matterhorn from all angles.
This was the most challenging DJ adventure so far. I left the Refugio Guide del Cervino at 4:30 in the morning and a little after 6 I arrived at the top of Gobba di Rollin. Bridging 500 vertical meters with a backpack of 20 kg was a sporting challenge. It was extremely cold (-25°C), and there was a very strong wind at the top. When I arrived my right little finger was frozen, completely blue, and since then the tip is still numb (I think it will be ok 😉).

A new Offgrid Session in Florida, at Cocoa Beach, with a fantastic view of the pier and the sea, a beautiful sunrise, the horizon was on fire. The music in the set starts calm and quiet, as it is a very early morning session. It builds up as the sun appears. I was a very nice atmosphere, with people watching the sunrise and surfers arriving.

In Ibiza, i had problems with the volume of the tracks. This time i prepared them with Platinum Notes from Mixed in Key. No issues on that part anymore.

But ... some things i've learned ... Building up my booth in the dark, positioning camera's when you're alone ... not easy. I put the drone in the sand, but because of the dark, it did not want to take off. A few minutes later, a huge wave took the drone, totally soaked, end of drone footage before i even started. The result: less video footage than expected. The full set is 25 minutes longer and available on Soundcloud and Mixcloud.

The gear for the DJ Booth:
- Apple iPad with Djay app from Algoriddim
- Reloop Mixtour controller
- 4 speakers Megaboom 2 from Ultimate Ears
- Powerbank Condor 100 from Powertraveller

Of course also a stand, some panels, a canvas, alu profiles, cables, ...

Offgrid sessions imply working with some limitations:
- battery powered gear is charged at home (in Belgium), I have solar panels
- we came by plane, so everything has to fit in a suitcase and hand luggage
