🚨DROWNING KILLS MALE ON VACATION🚨

Sadly, a 21-year-old man swimming at DeLeon Springs State Park lost his life today in an apparent drowning incident.

Deputies responded to the report of a drowning shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the victim at the scene before transporting him to a hospital for further treatment. Despite additional efforts there, the victim couldn't be revived.

Detectives spoke with witnesses who explained the victim and his family were visiting Florida from Texas and decided to go to DeLeon Springs State Park. The victim reportedly did not know how to swim but left the shallow area. He disappeared in the water for several minutes before he was discovered missing and pulled out of the deep area.

There were no immediate signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The Sheriff's Office sends condolences to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life.

***UPDATE***

Parents have been located.

Charges are pending for child neglect.

Let's find this child's parents and ger him back home

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Update:

This child’s home has been located on Massachusetts Avenue! The child’s guardian last saw him prior to 2 p.m. when she told all of the kids to get into the car to go to the store. She did not notice he was not in the vehicle. When she returned home, she made sandwiches and believed he was in a bedroom. Upon noticing he was missing, she began asking the neighbors if they have seen him. She did not call 911. The house is approximately 1 mile from the location where he was found. The guardian is being charged with child neglect and DCF has been notified.

It's time again for the Southern Slowdown!

VSO is joining our law enforcement partners across the Southeast for strict speed limit enforcement *and* education about the dangers of excessive speed.

In 2023, 419 traffic fatalities in Florida were speed-related.

Crashes are preventable. With community involvement, we can create safer roadways for everyone. Drivers who engage in risky behaviors like speeding endanger themselves and put other motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists at risk.

This campaign isn't just about enforcement. It's also about education. We want drivers to understand that speeding increases the likelihood of a crash and the severity of injuries.

An 18-year-old from Ormond Beach has been arrested on several charges including attempted murder after he fired several shots at a vehicle full of people on July 4.

Deputies responded late Thursday after the victims reported someone fired at them several times in front of 1062 George Anderson St., Ormond Beach.

The bullet holes in the vehicle indicated the occupants narrowly missed being struck at head or chest level.

Detectives identified Dylan Preis (DOB 11/9/2005), who had a recent falling out with the driver, as the shooter. After initially denying involvement, Preis eventually confessed and admitted to using his grandmother's 9mm handgun to commit the shooting. Detectives recovered the gun, ammunition and shell casings at the scene.

Preis was charged with 1 count of attempted first-degree murder, 3 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, 4 counts of firing into a vehicle, and 1 count of criminal mischief, as well as violation of his juvenile probation. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he is being held with no bond as of this post.
