Why is Influencer Marketing Important?

Influencer marketing is a type of marketing that uses influencers to promote a brand to a larger market. Influencers are opinion leaders with a social following base. They appear as experts or trustworthy sources of information.

Influencer marketing is closely related to social media marketing, as most opinion leaders gather their audience from social platforms. This channel gives you access to an enormous audience – half of the global population uses social networks.

Better yet, influencer marketing enables you to reach people you can't attain through traditional advertising. Two-thirds of consumers use ad blockers, but the same people willingly take advice from influencers. 80% of users have purchased something based on an influencer’s recommendation.

Brands that already employ influencer marketing have proven the effectiveness of this channel. It’s no wonder 17% of companies spend over half their marketing budget on influencers.

So, influencer marketing is crucial in the age of social media and ad fatigue. This channel helps build trust for your brand and drives impressive results. Now, let’s move on to the other benefits influencer marketing provides.

Influencer marketing is an effective way to improve your marketing strategy, reach business objectives, and even cut expenses. Let’s get into details and find the benefits influencer marketing has for your brand.

▪️Brand awareness growth
40% of marketers use influencer marketing to boost brand awareness, and this strategy works great. Opinion leaders share your brand’s story, mission, and values with their follower base. It automatically expands your outreach and positioning online.

▪️Content strategy enrichment
Influencer marketing is a golden opportunity to liven up your social media posts. You can repost the influencer’s content or encourage their followers to create user-generated content, as 24% of brands do. You can also use blogger’s images for other marketing channels, such as targeted advertising. To avoid problems with copyright, include it in the contract.

▪️Quality lead generation
36% of brands use influencer marketing to generate leads. 72% of them believe that this channel brings higher quality leads compared to other channels. People generally feel positive about the brands their favorite blogger advertises. Better yet, some types of content, such as reviews, attract warmer leads in the middle stages of the sales funnel.

▪️Cost-effectiveness
Other marketing channels require regular influxes of cash from your budget. For instance, to promote your brand through search engine marketing, you have to top-up your account on the advertising platform. Otherwise, your ad disappears from the search engine results page.

Influencer marketing can contribute to your business by helping you grow brand awareness and online presence, as well as ensuring lead generation. Depending on your objectives, you can choose different types of influencer marketing campaigns.

Types of Influencer Marketing
▪️Social media takeover
▪️Affiliate marketing
▪️Sponsored content
▪️Unboxings
▪️Brand ambassador programs

Influencer Marketing Tips

▪️Look for engagement, not followers: Number of followers used to be the primary metric for evaluating an account. However, focusing on the number of subscribers alone is the wrong tactic. Assess the engagement rate as well.

To get statistics on this indicator, look at the numbers of likes, views, and especially comments. The latter provides the most useful insights – if an influencer has only emojis or one-word phrases in the comment section, it’s a red flag.

▪️Go for micro-influencers: When speaking about influencer marketing, brands often mean promotion through medium and mega influencers. These are accounts with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers. The truth is, opinion leaders with smaller follower bases can be more effective in terms of engagement.

▪️Build long-term partnerships : Working with several influencers is a more effective strategy than sticking to just one social media star. However, trying to embrace as many opinion leaders as possible is not the best tactic either. The best option is to make a list of bloggers and work with them repeatedly, building long-term relationships.

Consistency brings the best results – the core principle for various channels, including influencer marketing. When people come across your brand once and again, they are more likely to become paying customers.

▪️Invest in video makers: Video grows more and more popular every day. Even now, 4 out of 5 millennials prefer videos to other types of content. Meanwhile, traditional video advertising on YouTube does not work so well – viewers hate intrusive commercials and block them. The solution for brands is to go for influencers, who create videos.

Although YouTube is the primary video platform, you can find influencers who work with video content on Instagram, Twitter, and other social networks. So, you don’t have to sacrifice your target audience preferences to support this trend.

Why is social media management important?

Social media management is a process that involves creating content, scheduling its publishment, developing a strategy, interacting with users, growing reach, and monitoring the performance of a company’s accounts on social media. It enables you to build relationships with subscribers, and publish relevant posts.

According to Statista, there are more than 3.6 billion social media users around the world. They spend around 2.5 hours daily on popular platforms. They communicate via messengers, explore trends, and post photos and videos in their Stories.

Managing social media properly is essential to drive users’ attention to your brand. That’s why you need to have a social media manager. This person will analyze engagement data, develop digital campaigns, and track customer interaction trends.

Once the manager succeeds in completing these tasks, your company will be visible on social media and will manage to build a community online. Social media presence is a must for every brand nowadays. It helps connect with prospects and communicate messages through different channels: ads, sponsored posts, influencer marketing, etc.

Now that you know why social media management is important, it’s time to figure out what it covers.

What does social media management include?

Since the definition of social media management is a vast concept, you might wonder what tasks it covers. In general, social media manager is responsible for

▪️creating and tailoring your brand’s social media strategy;
▪️identifying your target audience and researching their preferences, interests, and needs;
▪️selecting the social media networks to present your company;
▪️working out the schedule for content publishing;
▪️interacting with leads and customers via social media platforms;
▪️increasing social media reach;
▪️tracking and evaluating the performance of your social media accounts.

Now that you know the tasks a social media manager should perform, let’s explore the topic deeper and unveil how to manage social media properly. This short guide will come in handy both for starters and brands with established accounts.

How to get started with social media management?

Here's a step-by-step guide for those who want to promote their brands on social media yet don’t know how to get started. Follow these instructions to figure it out.

▪️Research your target audience: The first thing you should do to develop an effective social media strategy is to determine your target audience. Identify the core characteristics of your ideal customer: occupation, interests, pain points, age, gender, and location. It will help you understand customers better and tailor a strategy that addresses their needs and solves problems. Consider creating a buyer persona, and you’ll have all these points covered in one file.

▪️Select social media networks: At this stage, determine the most effective social networks to implement the strategy and reach your target audience. Focus on socials your customers use most often. Consider developing profiles on the most popular platforms like Facebook with 2.9 billion active users, YouTube with 2.2 billion, WhatsApp, and Instagram with 2 billion users each. Then, prioritize the platforms your target audience prefers. To identify these social networks, review your demographic data. With a social media audit, you’ll be able to evaluate engagement on different platforms and find the top-performing.

▪️Develop social media strategy: Your social media manager should pay attention to each platform to develop a strategy for each of them. To create a comprehensive strategy, you’ll need to include your target audience, goals you want to accomplish, values, industry information, and brand voice.

▪️Design profiles: Make sure that your social accounts comply with your brand voice, personality, and visual assets. Customers should recognize your brand at a glance. Publish professional images and videos to make a great impression and encourage them to follow your account. Pay attention to social media design. It’s crucial to create an appealing header and recognizable background on Twitter, a catchy profile picture on Instagram, and a brand header and profile picture on Facebook.

▪️Create a publishing schedule: Have your content calendar ready for each of your accounts on social media. It’s a great idea to leverage helpful tools like Hootsuite, Zoho, Sprout Social, or Loomly because they cover this function and help you with publishing time. In a content calendar, you can schedule the date and time of your publishing. Plan your posts, and they will be shared with your audience automatically. Some platforms even recommend the best time to publish your content to maximize engagement and relevance.

▪️Interact with users: To earn users’ love and trust, make day-to-day communication with customers your main priority. Interact with followers through your content and reply to their comments. Communication directly affects your brand reputation, brand awareness, and customer loyalty. Consider using social management software to track users’ impressions and messages on multiple networks from a single software. Reply as fast as possible either by using a special service or manually.

▪️Increase your reach: You can consider different options to increase the number of subscribers: run ads, share content with high engagement trends, or cooperate with influencers. After implementing these marketing methods, your brand will gain exposure and attract new followers. Influencers will promote your product and recommend it. After, people will be aware of your product and consider a purchase.

▪️Track content performance: Finally, monitor the performance of your marketing efforts on social media. Look through the top-performing content, see the analytics of your ads, and the effectiveness of campaigns. Analyze your efforts to figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Audit your content and strategy to eliminate problems.

Ways To Increase Your Facebook Engagement Part 2

This is the second article about increasing your engagement levels on Facebook to receive more free traffic. By following the advice below, you will increase your chances of receiving more comments, likes and shares which will help to generate more free traffic.

▪️Create Shorter Posts

Long posts are not a good thing on Facebook. Most users will scroll through their news feeds until they find something that piques their interest. If they see a very long and wordy post then they are likely to skip past this very quickly.
You also need to take into account that the user is very likely to be using a mobile device. Reading a long post on a phone is not a good experience so you will lose people if you do this.

It is possible for you to attract the attention of your audience with just a single sentence. The idea is that you want to tell them something interesting and then give them the option to read the full story on your website.

▪️Why not just ask your audience a question ⁉️

People naturally respond to questions. Or post an image with an intriguing caption on it that will make users curious. You can quote some interesting statistics and persuade the user to click through to the article on your website for the full story. Just keep your posts short.

▪️Ask a Question ⁉️

It is easier to get more engagement if you ask your audience a question. When you ask the right question users will feel compelled to answer. Make it as easy as possible for people to respond to your questions. Create a numbered list and ask your audience to respond by just typing in the appropriate number.
When people are using Facebook they don’t want to work hard. Don’t ask questions and expect your audience to provide a very detailed answer as most of them won’t. For example, you could ask them what subject they would like you to post about next and then give them numbered choices.
Use these questions to increase your engagement:

▪️Why do you like…?

▪️How do you…?

▪️What is your favorite…?

▪️ Do you agree that…?

▪️ Do you need help with…?

Just think that all Facebook users are very lazy (this may not be true but when you make something easy for users you will get a better response). Put some thought into your questions so that you get the information that you need.

▪️Use Facebook Stories

Few marketers use Facebook Stories. This is probably because it takes more time and effort to create them. But the good thing about stories is that they appear at the top of user news feeds just like they do on Instagram. This is really good exposure.

Facebook users like stories. When you post some good stories you will warm up your audience to want to see more of your content. Some of them will look at previous posts on your page that they hadn’t read before.

There are a number of examples where Facebook users have shown more interest in a business after reading their stories. They are powerful so work out how you can create good stories and add them as often as you can.

Ways To Increase Your Facebook Engagement Part 1

By increasing your engagement with your Facebook posts you will drive more free traffic to your website. In the first of a two part series, we will show you some good ways to raise your engagement levels with your Facebook audience.

▪️ Get your Posting Times right

If you post your Facebook content at the wrong times then you will severely limit your exposure. You need to know when your audience are the most active and post at these days and times.

If you have posted some content on Facebook before you can use Facebook Insights to see which posts had the most views and engagement (likes, shares, comments).

Make a not of the day and time that you made these posts.
There has been a lot of research on the best Facebook posting times and this is continuously changing. Rather than provide days and times that may be out of date here, it is better if you search for “best Facebook posting times” on Google or another search engine and look at the most up to date research on this.

▪️Create Posts that your Audience wants

OK this is obvious, but are you actually doing this? Most Facebook marketers tend to post the things that they think will be of the most interest to their audience and a lot of the time this doesn’t work well.

Don’t think that you only have to post content related to your niche. Even if you are in a niche where you can post a lot of relevant content then it is good to mix it up sometimes. For example, you can publish a post that coincides with a world event such as “Earth Day” and tell people what you are doing to support this.

The rule of thumb that you need to follow is this – the needs of your audience are more important than your needs. Think about what information would be really useful to your audience such as some interesting facts or statistics.

Another thing you can think about is how you can entertain your audience. What could you post that will make them laugh? Facebook users like to be entertained so find something amusing and post this. If you can relate this to your niche then that is even better.

▪️Respond to any Comments fast

If someone leaves a comment on one of your posts then you need to respond to them as quickly as possible. There is an expectation on Facebook that any comment needs a response in a few hours.

Thank your audience for leaving comments. If you are asked a question in the comments then provide a full answer. When other users see that you are responding professionally to comments they will be more inclined to leave them as well.

▪️Add a Compelling Call to Action

Make sure that you add a compelling call to action (CTA) to your posts. If you want a user to do something (such as visit a related page on your website) then you need to tell them. I(f you do not add a good CTA then you will not get as much traffic as you could.

How To Create Content That Users Will Share On Facebook.

You want to get as many shares for your content as possible to generate free traffic from Facebook. It is also a great way to extend your reach as people will share your content with their friends.

Follow the advice below and you will maximize your chances of your content being shared.

Assuming that most Facebook users have around 200 friends, then even a low response of 1% will work wonders for your traffic. Remember that these people have friends as well.

▪️Use Emotion in your Posts

There will always be a lot of competition in a Facebook users news feed so you want tour post to stand out. A compelling title is essential, as is using emotion in the post so that you fire up the user which will encourage them to share it with their friends.

You can use a number of emotional triggers in your posts such as:
▪️Fear

▪️Anxiety

▪️Outrage

▪️Humor

The more that you can stir the emotions, the more likely it is that your post will get shared.

▪️Make your Call to Action Strong

You need to make it really clear what you want the user to do in your post. Don’t assume that they will know what to do because they won’t. If you want users to share your post then make this clear to them. Ask them to think about the friends that they have who would benefit from reading the post.

▪️Good Images get more Shares

Facebook is a visual platform so add images to your posts. Don’t just use stock photos as a lot of other marketers do. Striking images that have good captions are the best for sharing. You can easily add a caption to your image by using a free online graphics service such as Canva.com.

▪️Using related images is important.

Let’s say that your post is about motivation – you could use an image of a person winning a race for example and add a caption such as “You can win your race too”.

▪️Posts that feature other People

When you create posts that include others you will increase the likelihood of them being shared. A good example of this is an interview with an expert in your niche. You can create a small sample of the interview for the Facebook post and then link to your website for the full interview.

Make it your business to know who the people are in your niche that your audience really respects. Find them and follow them and make a contribution to their page by adding a useful comment. Invite them to participate in an interview with you. Most people will accept your invitation.

Another good “people” orientated post is the “roundup”. This is where a number of niche influencers have contributed to an article on your website. You can mention their names in your Facebook post and then provide a link to your article.

▪️Freebies and Giveaways
If you create a post where you are giving away something valuable for free then this should get shared a lot. People love to get good stuff for free and they will also enjoy telling their friends about it.

How to Create a Social Media Marketing Strategy

The key ingredient for great social media marketing is having a strategy.

Just like most savory meals won't taste right without salt, your social media platforms will always be a little off without a strategy. If you don't know the basics: your goals, target audience, and their wants, it’ll be hard to achieve results on social media.

Whether you want to grow your brand or level up as a marketer, developing a marketing strategy is essential.

Here’s one way to do it – in five steps.

5 steps to creating a social media marketing strategy
It’s interesting to note that a social media marketing strategy and a marketing plan have many crossovers.

You can think of it this way: A strategy is where you’re headed. A plan is how you’ll get there.

One of the simplest ways to create your social media marketing strategy is to ask yourself the 5Ws:

▪️Why do you want to be on social media?

▪️Who is your target audience?

▪️What are you going to share?

▪️Where are you going share?

▪️When are you going share?

Here’s another interesting point about strategy (or strategies): You can also have a strategy for each of your social media channels, such as a Facebook marketing strategy, an Instagram marketing strategy, and so on, which all lead up to your overall social media marketing strategy.

But let’s start with your overall strategy.

1. Why does your business want to be on social media?
The very first question to answer is the Why.

Are you on social media to promote your products? To drive traffic to your website? Or to serve your customers?

In general, there are nine social media goals you can have:

▪️Increase brand awareness

▪️Drive traffic to your website

▪️Generate new leads

▪️Grow revenue (by increasing signups or sales)

▪️Boost brand engagements

▪️Build a community around your business

▪️Provide social customer service

▪️Increase mentions in the press

▪️Listen to conversations about your brand

You’ll likely have more than one social media goal, and that’s fine.

Generally, it’s great to focus on just a handful of goals unless you have a team where different people or groups within the team can take on different goals.

For example, at Buffer, the marketing team uses social media both to increase our brand awareness and drive traffic to our content, while our Advocacy team uses social media to provide timely customer support.

2. Who is your target audience?
Once you have figured out your Why, your target audience is the next thing to consider.

Understanding your target audience will help you more easily answer the following questions on what, where, and when you will share.

For instance, if a travel and lifestyle brand (like Away) knows that its target audience loves to read about new places and travel tips, it could share such content on its social media profiles.

A great exercise to try here is to build marketing personas.

There are many different ways of building marketing personas. My favorite approach is to, again, use the 5Ws and 1H.

▪️Who are they? (E.g. job title, age, gender, salary, location, etc.)

▪️What are they interested in that you can provide? (E.g. entertainment, educational content, case studies, information on new products, etc.)

▪️Where do they usually hang out online? (E.g. TikTok, Instagram, etc. or niche platforms)

▪️When do they look for the type of content you can provide? (E.g. weekends, during their daily commute, etc.)

▪️Why do they consume the content? (E.g. to get better at their job, to become healthy, to stay up to date with something, etc.)

▪️How do they consume the content? (E.g. read social media posts, watch videos, etc.)

You likely don’t have to start from scratch. If your business has been running for a while, you most probably already have a good sense of your target audience. What might be helpful is to write it down so that you can share it with the team or use for your future reference.

3. What are you going to share on social media?

When you see this question, you might be thinking about the types of content to share. For example, do you want to share videos or images?

But hold on for a second!

We’re talking about your social media marketing strategy here so let’s take a step back and think on a higher level. Instead of the types of content to share, “theme” might be a better word.

This is where a good understanding of your target audience will be helpful. Look at your marketing personas and consider the following questions:

▪️What goals and challenges do they have?

▪️How can you help solve them?

For a fitness apparel and accessories brand (like Gymshark), the goal of its target audience might be to stay up-to-date with the latest fitness gear. In that case, it can share its latest products on its social media profiles.

4. Where are you going to share?
The next step is to determine where you will share your content. In other words, which social media platforms does your brand want to be on?

Before we go any further, remember that your brand doesn’t have to be on every social media platform. That being said, it’ll be wise to have at least a complete profile on the Big Four — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn — as they would often show up on the first page of Google search results when people search for your brand.

Understanding your target audience will come in handy when deciding what to share. Which platforms are your target audience most active on? What makes them visit that platform? For example, teenagers and young adults might like scrolling through TikTok when bored to see what their friends are doing or what products their favorite creator is using.

Another, albeit smaller, thing to consider is, what is your brand’s “X factor”? Are you great at photography, videos, or writing? Certain platforms lend themselves well to certain content types. For example, photos are great on Instagram, long-form videos on YouTube, short-form on TikTok. But this is a minor point because social media platforms are evolving to provide almost every type of content nowadays.

5. When are you going share?
The last key part of your strategy is figuring out when you want to share your content. You might be tempted to jump into research for the best time(s) to post.

▪️Pause. And breathe.

Let’s take a step back and look at this from a higher level again. Before deciding exactly which time of the day and days of the week you want to post, consider the behaviors of your target audience.

When do they usually use social media to find the type of content that you’ll share?

Here are some examples to consider:

▪️Sports fans are likely on social media just before, during, and just after sports events to find and interact with content about the event.

▪️Athletes might be on Instagram while they are cooling down after their morning or evening workouts.

▪️People who love to travel might be more active on social media during the weekends when planning their next trip (or during their work breaks, dreaming about their next trip).

▪️Mothers of babies might be scrolling through social media when breastfeeding in the middle of the night.

You might have inferred from these few examples that there might not be a universal best time to post – it depends on your audience.

So for this step, focus on the general behavior patterns of your target audience.

When you have created your social media marketing strategy, you can then find your brand’s best time to post through experimentation.

▪️Bonus: How are you going to execute this social media strategy?

And there you have it — your social media marketing strategy!

But that’s not the end. As mentioned above, a strategy is where you’re headed; a plan is how you’ll get there. You have decided where to go; now you need a plan.

▪️How should you fill out your social media profiles?

▪️What should your tone and voice be like?

▪️What post type (i.e. image, link, video, etc.) should you use?

LinkedIn: Expanding Your Network and Influence

LinkedIn, with its 500 million members, is the quintessential professional network that’s not used as optimally as possible. When I teach classes on social media, I ask, “Who’s on LinkedIn?” and almost all the hands go up. But then I ask, “Who knows what they are doing on LinkedIn?” Most of the hands fall.

Most people take it for granted and start using it in a panic when they have to change jobs. It’s often too late at that point. You are better off learning to use it when you don’t need it. LinkedIn works best when you use it as a career management tool and not just for job hunting.

Expanding Your Network and Influence

Finding and interacting with relevant experts in your sector on LinkedIn is only one of the many ways you can grow your network. Finding, approaching, and establishing connections with people you already know, want to know, and ought to know is the key. You should consistently post your material showcasing your skills.

Learn how to provide and get recommendations for people you've previously worked with using the recommendation tool.

The ideal course of action would be only to recommend individuals whose work you can attest to. Employers reportedly take LinkedIn recommendations as seriously as those obtained through more conventional channels.

So if anything gives you pause, you should find a gentle way to turn down a request for a recommendation.

Building and Expanding a Business

LinkedIn offers a range of ways to use it for businesses, from recruiting to producing sales leads, depending on your line of work. You should determine whether LinkedIn's advertising options make sense for you, just like other sites.

Create a company page on LinkedIn and develop an online community to attract followers from current and potential customers.

Job Hunting

The most crucial function of LinkedIn for people is job searching, and you can use the network to keep tabs on particular businesses, people, and job openings. Spend some time getting familiar with the search tools that enable you to go deeper into networks of people, businesses, and job ads.

Take the time to expand your network since size matters while looking for a new job. But make sure to go about it properly: It is not a good idea to hurl invitations at random people to connect with them or the people they are linked with.

Instead, look for legitimate connections with people — your alma mater, for example — and reach out with an invitation to connect that includes a personal note.

Keep in Mind

The free version of LinkedIn works well, but you might want to try out the premium one. Starting at $29.99 a month, it is available at various price points. That's a lot of money, but if you're looking for work, it's well worth it for the features that let you email strangers through the website and interact with recruiters in novel ways.
