Recently, I (Sarah) posted to stories after a run (see ‘Community Table’ highlight) sharing how I never feel fully comfortable/safe and am always hyper vigilant and aware of my surroundings when running and wondered if anyone else felt similiary. As I shared - more people, specifically women, shared they felt the same way. We also discussed how this vigilance is amplified by other components of one’s identity too.

It’s no surprise we may feel this way in other various ‘everyday’, seemingly safe & positive, activities and experiences, based on who we are and how we identify, and how others may view that.

💪🏼 I didn’t share to discourage others from engaging in exercise or fitness outdoors, I wanted to share to start the dialogue that if you’ve had these thoughts - you’re not wrong or alone. If you’re seeing this and thinking “that’s crazy, you’re overreacting, seems dramatic, etc” - I encourage you to consider your own privilege as you scroll through responses from our community members. 💪🏼

🫶🏼This is a very real, very lived, experience in city centres, rural communities, and everywhere in between. It’s a reflection of social discourse and really a call to empathetically examine sociocultural influences and impacts.🫶🏼

⚠️ It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it! It means we can be prepared and put some precautions in place - one ear bud low volume, always tell someone where you’re going and how long you should be, share your location, don’t share your route publicly online, be cautious of distracted drivers, carry spray and/or a whistle, trust your gut! ⚠️

🫡 For others - be friendly neighbours, be respectful, make note of the time or descriptors of a runner when you see them, just in case. 🫡

We sure are glad our boys have these two showing them the way. The fun dads. The mow the grass, do the laundry, cook the supper dads. The sport loving, play on the floor, pick up the slack dads. The thoughtful, caring, equal partners, support all of our crazy ideas, dads/husbands.

We should give credit where credits due, but they are both gone golfing for the weekend so we will razz them about that instead 🤪

Can we believe it’s been ONE MONTH since this incredible night? The Morning Meeting With Sarah & Jess kicked things off for Teal to Heal in a big way raising $6000 to go towards the mobile gyne unit in our local Emergency Department.

This fundraising was incredible, make no mistake, but something much more valuable was also taking place that night - conversations! Vulnerable questions being asked and answered surrounding women’s health.

We were fortunate to have the pelvic floor gurus Melissa McDonough and Alana Coady there from Cabot Physiotherapy and Massage Therapy Clinic as well as Dr. Gillian MacMullin ( OBSGYN) to help lead the conversations!

This is what it’s all about - Sarah and Jess, in case I didn’t say it enough already THANK YOU for the continued work you do surrounding women’s health!

When we know better, we do better 🩵

TFW you hear the total roll in. 🎉🎊

We love any excuse to celebrate connection + community - but our Wine & Gyne-Live event took that to the next level. We are still reeling from the overwhelming support, and all the fun, we felt on Saturday!

Together, our Morning Meeting community raised over $5,900.00 for the .cb fund through the . That’s right, $5,900!!! Even MORE than our final total announced Saturday night, with donations rolling in since!

This means we have officially fully funded the mobile gyne assessment cart for the ER! This unit can turn any exam room bed into a gynecological exam table.

This will reduce the stress and triggering experiences many individuals face when waiting for the only gynecological room is the department. The room often carries difficult emotions surrounding not only gynecological cancer, but recurrent pregnancy loss, or sexual abuse.

With the additional funds raised, .cb will be able to pursue other important and thoughtful projects through their work with the and continue to strengthen healthcare, here at home. 🩵💜

It takes a village; and there’s none quite like ours. 🫶🏼🥲

We set a lofty goal to raise $4,500.00 to fund a Mobile Gyne Assessment Cart for the ER at the CBRH through Teal to Heal Cape Breton & Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation at our Wine & Gyne - Live event!

In less than a week, The Morning Meeting community, near & far, came together to raise MORE than the set goal, FULLY FUNDING the mobile gyne cart!!!!!!!!!!! 🙌🏼🤩😭

The total funds raised will go towards the purchase of this important piece of equipment and other special projects through the Teal to Heal fund.
