BERLIN: Pakistan is hopeful of getting off the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as a government official has said that this time "things seem to be going Pakistan's way",

A four-day plenary session of the FATF is scheduled to end today after which the global anti-money laundering watchdog will announce its decision about which countries will remain in the list and which have been removed.

“So far there are reports that this time the decision will go in Pakistan's favour,” the spokesman for the federal government told the publication, adding that the consent and satisfaction of other countries in the plenary is also significant in this regard.

The official said that even if Pakistan is removed from the list, it may take seven to eight months for matters to be settled. “After removal from the grey list, the FATF team will visit Pakistan for onsite inspection.”

The Pakistani delegation, attending the conference in Berlin, is headed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, who is also the chair of the National Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Coordination Committee.

KARACHI: Russian Consul General Andrey Fedorov has admitted that the supply of oil to Pakistan was discussed during the visit of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to Russia.

According to details, Andrey Fedorov, while addressing a press conference in Karachi yesterday, said that oil supply was discussed during the visit of former premier Imran Khan to Russia but Pakistan did not contact Russia on this issue.

In the wake of US sanctions on his country in the wake of the Ukraine war, the Russian consul general said sanctions could affect Pakistan-Russia trade relations, but that Russia would provide cheap oil if the Pakistani government cooperated.

Russia’s Consul General on the Ukraine war said that at the moment there is no immediate solution to the conflict and that Ukraine is not taking peace talks seriously. According to him, sanctions can affect bilateral relations.

Earlier, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail had said that the PTI government had not written a letter to buy oil from Russia. Former Minister of State Hamad Azhar said that Russia was keen to sell oil at discounted prices.

Infact 70 percent railway track in the country has completed its designed life; however, all available resources in revenue allocations were being utilized for safe train operation.
