THE MAN WHO COINED 'JAI HIND' Abid Hasan Safrani, born Zain-al-Abdin Hasan, was an officer of the Indian National Army and later, after 1947, an Indian diplomat. Born to an anti-colonialist family in Hyderbad, Abid Hasan was brought-up in India and later went to Germany to train as an Engineer.
It was while he was a student in Germany during World War II that Abid Hasan met Subhas Chandra Bose and decided to join the Indische Legion.
Over the course of the reformation of the INA and its campaigns in the south east Asian theatre, Hasan rose to be a Major in the Azad Hind Fauj.
It was also during this that he adopted "Safrani", after the holy Hindu colour of Saffron, to his name as a mark of communal harmony.

After partition, Hasan chose to settle in Hyderabad and joined the nascent Indian Foreign Service. Over a long diplomatic career, Hasan served as the Indian Ambassador to a number of countries including Egypt and Denmark before retiring in 1969 and settling in Hyderabad. Abid Hasan Safrani died in 1984.

According to Leonard Gordon the author of Brothers Against the Raj, Abid Hasan Safrani coined the salutation "Jai Hind" (Hail India). It was the shortened form of "Jai Hindustan Ki".
The term was made famous by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's INA and its subsequent use as a national patriotic salutation in independent India. - via Wikipedia

SIX GOLD MEDALS, DAILY WAGERS’ DAUGHTER FROM BIDAR

BIDAR:- A girl student from a daily wager family from Bidar has hit headlines for bagging six gold medals and pocketing three cash prizes in MA Philosophy at the 101st convocation of University of Mysore

Meenakshi daughter of Bhimashanakar and Shobavathi of Shahapur in Bidar has not just made her parents proud, but also self, for the odds she had to endure to reach this golden moment of her life.

Meenakshi wants to become IAS Officer, the dream she has been nursing, ever since she was in eighth standard at a Kannada medium school in Shahapur.

Now, she is preparing for IAS and one of the reasons to take Philosophy in her Master’s.

She did her schooling in Bidar, later PU at Udupi, graduation in Mangaluru and post graduation in University of Mysore.

Meenakshi told Mysoorunews.com “it’s a surprise that I have bagged all the medals of the department. My parents are daily wage labourers at Bidar, who took care of the family with five children. I am proud because our parents encouraged all the children to pursue higher education. My brother is now working as a child development coordinator. My two other sisters are doing MBA and LLB and another sister is into teaching. I thank my parents for providing higher education,” said Meenakshi owing all the success to her parents.

Meenakshi was largely inspired by philosopher Socrates. His thought processing and daring nature and his struggles against barriers really inspired me, added Meenakshi who is preparing for civil services exams from the last one-and-a-half years.

Ropeway in Hyderabad soon.
Traffic gridlocks remained as the most concerned issues in Hyderabad even after the metro trains came into existence. To put an end to the traffic woes of the people, the government is contemplating to introduce another transportation service i.e., ropeway transportation facility.

The Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) is working on ropeway route in Hyderabad which is running successfully in the world. At present, a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared to introduce a three-lane ropeway -- two corridors in Hyderabad and another in Yadadri. UMTA is exploring the feasibility to construct ropeways of about 17 km on the three routes.
A design to set up ropeway at a height of 50 to 150 km from the ground with the cabin that can employ eight persons is being studied.

UMTA officials is planning to construct ropeway in the area where the metro train service in unavailable i.e., from Nehru Zoological Park to MGBS, Khairatabad to Secretariat, Paradise to Secretariat for about 12 km. Also, a 5 km ropeway from Raigiri to Yadadri temple is being planned.

Karnataka: 40% government engineering seats vacant after round 1
Shrinivasa M | TNN | Updated: Dec 16, 2020, 05:56 IST

latest Bengaluru News
More than 40% of government quota engineering seats have gone unfilled after the first round of admissions. Data from the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) shows that students and parents are more choosy while selecting the course and college, perhaps impacted by implications of Covid-19 on industry and job opportunities. The demand for mechanical engineering, for instance, has dipped, say academics, as the manufacturing sector has taken a big hit.
About 1.6 lakh students were allotted engineering ranking this year, according to KEA, including those who cleared II PUC in the supplementary examination. As many as 64,577 government quota engineering seats were available for selection in the first round of seat allotment. This included 7,008 additional seats surrendered by private college managements to KEA over and above the seat matrix finalised through a consensual agreement.
