***A selection of work from the Young Environmental Photographer of the year 2013 Eleanor Leonne Bennett***

This work comes from myself at ages 12 and 13 when I was first practicing my work in hopeful anticipation of someday winning awards of this caliber. I first started to win awards for art in national competitions at the age of 11.

I have always been very passionate where the environment is concerned, having grown with an upbringing in the countryside. I now have the wonderful opportunity to work with many many people around the world..At the heart of my work whenever I am awarded once more I think of all the great people who have given me brilliant outlets of self expression. The reason for this article and such a display of such early work is that I am working with the Marvellous Sue Sims of Poetryspace to post a call out to young creatives and their parents to get their work published on an international platform online.

Poetryspace also publish in print book format too. One marvellous thing about the site itself is when you click the link to view , you notice that some of the submissions are from children as young as 5. What a wonderful boost to your young creative mind to have someone judge your work worthy to be seen around the globe. It is a must to give young people encouragement.

I look often at my own country with the youth unemployment and lack of jobs and it saddens me. Especially as I know first hand that a lot of our largest publishers will point blank refuse your writing and your illustrative talents without an agent backing you. I always knew to the depths of my heart and my abilities that I wanted to become an artist.

Throughout my childhood I used to look with wonder upon hearing of artist grants and awards being won and thinking it was unobtainable for people like myself just dreaming. That all changed when I won my first awards at age 11 with the Nature Detectives (run by the Woodland Trust Charity encouraging the education of the natural world and conservation to young people). It was priceless as a confidence boost.

We as a website for the Youthspace aren't getting many contributions but who knows how this may grow. I am sure we would love to run contests in the future for young minds and give great publishing opportunities.

If you are of any age you are welcome to submit, If you are a parent or guardian you can submit on your child's behalf to [email protected] Photography, writings, poetry, art and anything creative really is welcome.

I have ideas of including a slide show on the page with music/original songwriting/spoken word from young people so I would be thrilled to have it all sent across.

No deadlines, no fees and open to all.

Ambassadors of Goodwill: Vintage Matchbook Advertising and Design

Gail Anderson shares a wonderful catalog of these "ambassadors of goodwill"

I picked up this salesman’s catalog for the Mercury Match Corporation of Zanesville, Ohio, about 25 years ago at the big antique show in Brimfield, Massachusetts. I remember the purchase vividly—I was over the moon, but tried to act all

alternate realities or something incomprehensible ‽
paintings by Jason Chapin

In mathematics transformations are utilized to aid in solving difficult equations by rephrasing them in simpler terms. As such it is difficult to form a mental picture our universe in more than three dimensions. Some theorists have speculated there could be as many as twenty-six dimensions. Visualiz...

The Cave Shadow Series | Funkyum

Alternative-methods photographer Jim Doukas featured in Issue 01, transforming ancient cave paintings and bone carvings into prints and wire sculptures.

Pre-Columbian peoples believed (and understood) that the human soul existed in two distinct locations at the same time: in the heart (circumnavigation of the blood) and in an animal (as a supernatural).

Delve Fonts - Fonts and Type Design - Helfa, A new typeface designed by Delve Withrington

We were able to speak with Delve Withrington about production process, and his new typeface release: Helfa. You can see this elegant and spunky serif all throughout Issue 01. Looks like Delve is offering 2 free weights of Helfa right now. Take him up on this! You'll be very happy to have these in your type library. http://delvefonts.com/helfa.html

Helfa from Delve Fonts is the latest typeface by Delve Withrington. It is a reliable workhorse text typeface with just enough distinction and fine detail to also hold interest at larger point sizes.
