The BBC Asia series premiered in Taiwan with the first episode, Beneath the Waves, screening on a massive 22-meter Titan Screen at Muvie Cinemas. Watching the footage on such a big screen was quite the experience!

The BBC Earth team also treated the audience to sneak peeks of the tiger sequence and the giant flying squirrel sequence from episodes 4 (Tangled Worlds) and 5 (Crowded Continent). Both were sequences I had the privilege of directing on location in Nepal and Taipei, working alongside phenomenal producers, an exceptionally talented crew, and the amazing production management team at the BBC Natural History Unit. Sitting among the audience and witnessing their reactions to the unique animal behaviours we captured was super rewarding.

This series was four years in the making and would not have been possible without the support of Asia’s leading scientists, photographers, and wildlife experts. Now, we can finally introduce audiences to some incredible Asian species in the most breathtaking locations across the continent. For viewers in the UK, all seven episodes of BBC Asia are now streaming on iPlayer!

BBC Earth 最新紀錄片系列《亞洲》在台灣盛大首映，第一集《海浪之下》於 Muvie Cinemas 22 公尺長的 TITAN 巨幕影廳播放。在這麼壯觀的螢幕上欣賞這些畫面，真是難以忘懷的體驗！

BBC Earth 中文 團隊還為觀眾提前呈現了第四集《交錯的世界》中老虎故事，以及第五集《擁擠的大陸》中大赤鼯鼠的故事。這兩個片段是我有幸在尼泊爾和台北親自執導拍攝的，與卓越的製片人、一支才華橫溢的攝製團隊，以及 BBC 自然歷史部門出色的製作管理團隊共同合作完成。坐在觀眾席中，親眼看到他們對我們捕捉到的獨特動物行為所展現的反應，實在讓人感到非常欣慰。

這部紀錄片系列歷時四年製作，沒有亞洲頂尖老師們、攝影師和野生動物專家的協助是不可能完成的。如今，終於能向觀眾介紹一些令人驚嘆的亞洲物種，以及它們所在的壯麗地點，實在令人感到無比興奮！《亞洲》將於 11 月 17 日起每週日晚間 7 點 55 分在 BBC Earth 頻道播出，首週連播兩集，並同步上架於台灣大哥大 MyVideo 和 HamiVideo。

Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of researching, directing, and filming some incredible wildlife stories for this series. Its been an incredible journey with unforgettable experiences working alongside so many talented individuals from the wildlife filmmaking industry.

I can’t wait for everyone to watch this amazing series!

𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘠𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸-𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘯 - For the last year I have been obsessed with trying to find and photograph 黃喉貂 (Martes flavigula chrysospila) in the mountains of Taiwan. These martens are extremely fast and rarely if ever stop moving, making them difficult to photograph and follow. I got super lucky on this one occasion when this individual stayed still long enough for me to snap a few photos.

𝘙𝘦𝘥-𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘳 𝘷𝘴 𝘍𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘉𝘢𝘵 - My most memorable herping encounter to date! I was lucky enough to photograph a Red-tailed Racer (Gonyosoma oxycephalum) eating a Short-nosed Fruit Bat (Cynopterus brachyotis) on a fig tree (Ficus sp.). Several fruit bats were flying around the tree trying to feed on the figs, while the snake lay in ambush patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. 17/04/2022, Singapore.

𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘒𝘪𝘵𝘦 - 黑翅鳶 (Elanus caeruleus) were first spotted in MiaoLi county, western Taiwan in the early 2000s, today these magnificent raptors can be found all over the island of Taiwan. One afternoon, I watched this individual hunting along the beach, hovering several meters above the ground and effortlessly swooping down to hunt the unsuspecting mouse.

𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘥 𝘚𝘬𝘺 - I found this Mantid 綠靜螳 (Statilia nemoralis) floating on the water surface in a mountain stream. When I first scooped her up I assumed she was dead, but I placed her on my towel and dried her off. After a few minutes she began to twitch and 15 minutes later she was up and crawling on a branch on the bank of the river. To get this shot, I waited until she got to the end of the branch and lay on my back with the camera pointing to the sky.

𝘈𝘭𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘲𝘶𝘦 - This part albino female formosan rock macaque 台灣獼猴 (Macaca cyclopis) is one of the most unique individuals I have ever seen in the wild. While albinism in the rock macaques has been recorded in Taiwan a few times, however, according to one researcher I spoke with, this is the first time an individual showing partial albinism has been seen.

𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘳 𝘈𝘵𝘭𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩 - 眉紋天蠶蛾 (Samia wangi) is one of the largest moth species found in Taiwan. The wingspan of this individual was over 120mm! Scientists believe that unique shape and patterning found on the tips of the moths forewing (swipe for close ups) are supposed to mimic a snake eye and head presumably to scare off predators. Can you see the snake's head?

𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘺𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘨𝘦 - This is one of the most spectacular cocoons I have ever seen. The chrysalis is suspended within a cage made of thin hairs (setal hairs?) from which the entire structure was also suspended. The hairs are so intricately woven together that they not only create a protective cage around the developing chrysalis but also seem to keep water out (swipe to see a close up). I am not sure what species it belongs to but it could be from the Cyana genus? If there are any lepidopterists out there who know what species this is please let me know!

𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩 - 臺灣長尾水青蛾 (Actias sinensis subaurea) has a secret weapon when it comes to outsmarting predators. Scientists have discovered that the elaborate twirls of the moth's long hindwing tails are able to disrupt the sonar functions of their main predators - insectivorous bats.

𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘱 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘈𝘐𝘞𝘈𝘕 - 𝘛𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘞𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 : A nice change to be in front of the camera! This was a super fun shoot , and I did in 2021 with .media for .tw. 𝘑𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 - 玉山 is the tallest mountain in Taiwan, the main peak (主峰) stands at 3,952 meters above sea level. For years I’ve wanted to climb this mountain, but never had a chance until recently. We left Paiyun Lodge (排雲山莊) at 3am climbing in the dark with only the light from our head torches to guide us on the steep path, to make it to the summit in time for sunrise.
