Networking is a really interesting thing, something I never had to do until I started my business. On Friday, I found myself sorting through 300+ business cards I collected over the past couple of years. And a lot of thoughts occurred while going through them:

1) Wow, I've met a lot of people in a short amount of time and I'm fortunate to have this network
2) There are a lot of cards and how am I going to organize them
3) I don't have a lot cards for people who come to mind (that's the key... I thought of them)
4) Many of these cards have people's contact information such as name, title, email, phone but I have no idea what they do or for that matter who they are.

You see the list goes on and on but in the interest of keeping this short, here's the takeaways.

1) When I peruse all the cards, who has stayed in touch with me since initial contact?
2) Did they take the time to get to know me by having one or more 1-1's so I can learn more about them and their business.
3) When I look at the different categories, who comes to mind that I would not hesitate to refer? Why?
4) If I am unable to refer someone, who do I know that could recommend someone?

Relationship building is invaluable. Building trust and credibility is so important. Things to keep in mind:

1) Nothing can take the place of human interaction
2) Maintaining 6-7 touch points throughout the year will help keep you top of mind. This can be an in-person meeting, Zoom/phone call/text, direct mail/card, blog post, email, social media post, website visit, ad, blog, etc.

If you are thinking who has the time to do this, that's why there a professionals like me to help you stay on top of all of these touch points, except the 1-1's (there's no way around it). We're all busy, make the time... it will pay dividends.

We are really excited to kick the morning off by saying we just reached two years in business this month! When we first started this venture, we truly didn't know what to expect. What we knew was it was going to take a lot of work and patience to start a business from scratch. After our owner, rusack, had started in Corporate marketing followed by a successful 20-year career in parks & recreation running programs, events and of course doing all the marketing for the departments, he knew it was time to go out on his own. With a passion to help small to mid-sized businesses, he knew the timing was right post pandemic after seeing so many organizations struggle. Most businesses were dependent on customers coming into their facilities so they didn't have ways to communicate with them to say we're open and don't forget about us! It's certainly been educational for all of us, having to learn the day to day operations of running a business. We have been fortunate to have met so many supportive, good, hard-working people.

In our networking journey, people often ask how can we help your business:

* Simply ask other business owners, who do you use for social media marketing? Are you happy with them? If they say no one or no we are not happy, that would be a great referral for us!
* Connect us to other great networkers!

Often time when in conversations we tend to partially listen or in written format scan which results in us drawing conclusions without thoroughly understanding the context. We are just thinking and waiting to respond rather than actively listening/comprehending and following up with questions.

Next time you are in a conversation, be mindful of this and be fully engaged... your may just have a different perspective.

Going viral is the dream for any brand but how likely is it? Of course, not likely, but not impossible. There are some things you can do like use optimized times, hashtags, a description that informs the algorithm what the picture or video is, use titles, alt text and of course quality content!
