This is the first episode of the podcasts from Tender Matter, an independent music label based in Vienna, Austria. Each episode is going to be made with interviews with musicians, artists and creatives who inspire us and who we want to share with the world. AI FEN (PL/CN) live December 9 at Venster 99

Ai fen is a Polish/Chinese composer, musician and producer based in Prague. Through sweeping tracks and visceral performances combining soprano flute, keys and a dramatically fluctuating vocal, Ai fen is blending together experimental pop with techno, neoclassical, drone and ambient elements with live incorporation of keys, soprano flute, samples and vocal performance.

HYEJI NAM (KOR) live December 9 at Venster 99

An interdisciplinary creator, Hyeji Nam’s work, exhibited/performed from LA to Australia to Iceland, intertwines digital and physical, exploring the mind-body dynamic in a digitalised age. 2023 marked the release of her first album “miracles” under Viennese independent record label Tender Matter. Each piece, whether performance art, music, or multimedia projects, reflects on themes of body, mind, and technology, offering a unique narrative of human experience.

AN###IOUS_T (DE) hybrid December 9 at Venster 99

an###ious_t contextually creates dj sets consisting of tracks that are remixed with famous pop tracks, often dealing with romance and straight dating culture. These remixes being played by a transgender women change the meaning of these (hetero) normative tropes of pop culture and deconstruct their meaning of classic models of romance existing in duality towards an opening of a collective romantic dance experience.
By transferring the everyday experiences of a transgender woman into a staged art space experience using scenographic and performative elements, she aims to give the space the possibility of extended identity.

Close to the end of this year we are honored to host our second ever label night including some dear friends. Organizing events and having access to safer spaces or having the means to create them is a privilege and we are glad that we have the chance to come together, listen to music and share a moment in the face of constant atrocity, grief and apathy. Hyeji Nam’s new track Empty hall is out now - listen and grab at the link in bio

“The creation of the track “Empty hall” was a collaboration between the human voices generated by AI. It is a mixture of technology and human artistry.

Using the AI tool from Neuton by Qosmos, a piano sound was fed as the base for the track. This sound was then processed into a choir sound. Though this choir was artificially generated, it delivered a hauntingly emotional quality.

The track was refined through a continuous process of bouncing between the AI tool and personal edits to craft a specific melody.”

„Tender Matter presents Shadow Eyes, five dark wave tracks from Vienna based artist Terz Nervosa. Her second EP is the soundtrack for a lonely ride on clear roads when you need no destination. It’s an exploration of love, longing and solitude, with Tina Bauer’s voice pulling you close, and yet only letting you catch a glimpse of her foggy vision in the distance. Terz Nervosa plays with uncanny melodies and concealed words to create an atmosphere of estrangement, touching on themes of violence, presence and desire.“

“On her new album “Miracles” Hyeji Nam introduces us to a futuristic ocean where she softly leaks raindrops from her piano, or from her voice itself. Throughout her album its softness by times becomes sharper and electric, a deep beat, a thunder, a whisper, they all come together and accumulate only to leave us behind with a few bells echoing in the wind. The track Singing Fountain is a continuation of this journey, descending underneath where Nam carries us into an ancient temple, which was covered by the rising sea. Soft plants caressing our faces as we follow Nam on her cinematic explorations of her own decay and rebirth.”
