The number of year-round residents in 1996 was 6,800 — not too different from today, but their political affiliations were. In 1996, there were 5,112 registered voters: 1,513 Republicans, 887 Democrats, and 2,712 Unenrolled or Independent voters. The 2022 Town Report (to be published next month) shows the shift: of 5,659 registered voters in Orleans, there were 792 Republicans, 1,491 Democrats, 3,326 Unenrolled or Independent, and 50 “all others.” Click on the link in our bio to see our full issue on the search for a new Town Manager.
