Do you really need to buy all those FabFilter, Waves, UAD... plugins to become a better producer? 🤔

These things can make a difference and affect your overall sound quality, but if you haven’t mastered the basics, these won’t do the magic. 🤷‍♂️

Today, every DAW has a bunch of great plugins, things like compressors, EQs, reverbs, delays and much more. If you are just starting out, I would highly suggest mastering these first before spending any extra money. For example, if you want to master compression you should first learn what threshold, ratio, attack and release are on your stock compressor. You will have these on most compressors, but if you are not sure how to use it those third-party plugins won’t do it for you.

Cubase has a lot of great stock plugins that I like using. If something is stock, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. For example, I really like Magneto II and Tube compressor in Cubase.

If are you using Cubase and would like to master the basics before spending any extra money on plugins, you can check out a 2-hour FREE PREVIEW of my “Complete Cubase Mastery” course.

Compression masterclass is now open for a free preview in section 13. In this lesson, you are going to learn how to use a standard compressor and all of its parameters.

New to Cubase and music production? 🎛🎧

Here are 4 tips to setup Cubase and avoid beginner mistakes. ✔✔✔

📌Tip no. 1:

Always prompt for project folder location when creating new projects. Don’t use default location. Cubase creates Audio tracks folder here. Save your project file here. If you lose your project folder you lost all of your tracks. Keep it safe.

📌Tip no. 2:

Use Steinberg power scheme (Studio setup tab).
This prioritizes audio procecssing in your CPU and let’s all of you CPU’s cores work better for audio.

📌Tip no. 3:

Lower the buffer size.
Go to Studio tab/studio setup/ Audio system/ control panel
Lower the buffer size. This will lower the recording and playback latency.
If your CPU can handle it, try to keep lattency under 10ms.

📌Tip no. 4:

Set mono inputs for audio recording.
Press F4 on your keyboard.
Most of the time we record in MONO, things like Vocals, guitars, Bass...
Cubase, by default, sets only one stereo input.
Click on add bus and add mono inputs.
