The UN Special Rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, has warned with horror that if it’s not stopped, Israel’s assault could end up exterminating almost the entire population in Gaza over the next couple of years.”

Albanese stated, quoting a recent article from The Guardian: “The range of presumable direct and indirect deaths could be between 15 and 20% of the population already by the end of this year, according to Prof. Devi Sridhar.”

“Once the dust settles, I can’t imagine how the world will go on after having allowed that. Again,” Albanese said in her Friday post on X.

This rough estimate of Sridhar is based on a public health researcher estimate published in The Lancet in July on indirect death counts from other wars, which has been regarded as one of the best in the business. As regards that consideration, the researchers put forward the estimation that actual number may be around 186,000 considering all the major factors, such as direct violent acts like bombardments and also the annihilation of health, food, and sanitation systems of Gaza by Israel.

The death toll, therefore, may end up reaching between 15 and 20 percent of the population by the end of this year, Albanese stated, in only a bit more than one year of Israel’s genocide. And even that, Sridhar writes, is borrowed by her from the international medical journal The Lancet and is very conservative — This implies that even her estimate of 335,500 deaths may be an underestimate, as there are likely many more unreported or underreported cases that have profoundly shocked the conscience.

According to Sridhar, last winter she calculated the number of deaths that would occur "if fighting continued without international intervention" using data from past crisis scenarios.

"Without a ceasefire, my estimate for December 2023 was roughly half a million deaths," she stated.

Sridhar continued, "They used a very conservative estimate, but allowed that the number could easily be much higher." This generally corresponds with the Lancet figures.

She also noted that the statistic illustrates “what could have happened had the international community not acted, and taken advantage of the brief windows available to deliver aid and medical care.”

The professor emphasized, "Many have been saved by these various humanitarian interventions and pauses in fighting, even if they have been patchily enforced."

A UN Security Council resolution calling for an urgent ceasefire has been disregarded by Israel, which has also come under international criticism for its ongoing, ruthless onslaught on Gaza.

Tel Aviv is presently facing charges of genocide against Palestinians before the International Court of Justice because of its continuous and catastrophic bombardment on Gaza, which began on October 7.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that 40,878 Palestinians have died and 94,454 have been injured so far. Furthermore, throughout the enclave, at least 11,000 individuals are missing and thought to be dead beneath the debris of their homes.

The majority of those displaced by Israel's aggression were forced into the crowded southern city of Rafah, which is close to the Egyptian border. This has resulted in the largest mass exodus from Palestine since the 1948 Nakba, and it has affected nearly two million people from throughout the Gaza Strip.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the 10-day Israeli incursion into the West Bank and expressed outrage at the death of a Turkish-American activist there.

He posted on X, saying, “I condemn Israel’s barbaric intervention against a demonstration against the occupation in the West Bank and I pray for God’s mercy for our citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who lost her life in the attack.”

Turkey's Foreign Ministry also condemned the murder in a statement: “We condemn this murder committed by the Netanyahu government. Israel is attempting to intimidate those who come to the aid of Palestinians and those engaged in peaceful struggle against genocide. This policy of violence will not succeed.”

The ministry also stated that authorities in Israel will inevitably be held accountable before international courts”.

Israeli officials will "inevitably be held accountable before international courts," the ministry stated.

A small, incoming asteroid was vaporized in the atmosphere on Wednesday without causing any damage. The 3-foot celestial object entered Earth's atmosphere over the northernmost Philippine island at roughly 12:46 PM ET (1646 GMT). It collided with Earth at a predicted speed of 17.6 kilometers per second, or 63,360 kilometers per hour, creating a spectacular fireball that illuminated the sky.

Jacqueline Fazekas, a research technologist with the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey, identified the asteroid 2024 RW1. The European Space Agency announced on X that the asteroid was harmless but would likely create a stunning fireball when it entered Earth's atmosphere.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) manufacturer Nvidia ascended to the position of the world's most valuable company on Tuesday, following a surge in its share price to a record high.

Nvidia's market capitalization currently stands at USD 3.34 trillion (GBP 2.63 trillion). Notably, the share price has nearly doubled year-to-date.

Closing at nearly USD 136 per share, Nvidia's stock price increased by 3.5% on the trading day. This surge in share price propelled Nvidia to become the world's most valuable company, surpassing fellow tech giant Microsoft. Notably, Nvidia had overtaken Apple for the top position earlier this month.

The Californian company's remarkable ascension has been driven by its leadership in a segment analysts have designated as the "new gold or oil in the tech sector" - the specialized chips essential for artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

The federal budget allocated significant funds to two areas: Rs2,122 billion for defense and Rs9,700 billion for loan interest payments.

Defense spending increased by 17.62 percent to Rs2,122 billion, compared to Rs1,804 billion allocated in fiscal year 2023-24.

Federal defense spending has risen steadily since 2017-18, with allocations increasing from Rs920 billion to Rs1,563 billion in 2022-23.

The government's commitment to modernizing military infrastructure and technology is evident in the budget allocation. Rs3.92 billion has been earmarked for nine ongoing projects within the Ministry of Defence, part of a larger pool funding 29 key projects. These ongoing initiatives are crucial for maintaining and upgrading existing defense systems.

Further bolstering the nation's defense, Rs1.7 billion has been allocated to 20 new initiatives that address pressing security challenges and propel the country's defense preparedness.

Highlighting the focus on modern technology, Rs400 million has been earmarked to acquire drones for law enforcement and emergency search and rescue operations. This allocation is part of the broader Rs1.7 billion dedicated to new initiatives that strengthen national defense.

To spearhead innovation and self-sufficiency in defense technology, the budget proposes a Rs50 million investment in a new Research and Regional Center in Islamabad. This facility aims to become a hub for cutting-edge defense research and development.

Demonstrating a commitment to education in strategic areas, the budget allocates Rs38 million for constructing FG Junior Public Schools in Gwadar and Gilgit. This investment will improve educational infrastructure in these vital locations.

The National University of Pakistan in Islamabad receives a boost for its defense program with a Rs300 million allocation for a new Academy Block. This investment strengthens educational facilities for military personnel.

In a significant move to improve healthcare services for military personnel and their families, Rs620 million has been allocated to acquire land for a new Medical City.

The budget reserves Rs860 million to propel Pakistan's aerospace industry forward. This allocation is dedicated to the National Aerospace Science and Technology Pak Aviation City.

Apple's stock price experienced a significant increase on Tuesday, reaching an all-time high. This upturn marked the largest single-day percentage gain for the company since late 2022. The positive market response stemmed from Apple's long-awaited announcement regarding its generative artificial intelligence initiatives.

Apple's share price exhibited a substantial increase, exceeding 7% by the close of regular trading. This resulted in a closing price of $207, surpassing the company's prior record by $8. Notably, this marks the first instance where the adjusted share price, accounting for stock splits, has crossed the $200 threshold.

This resulted in a substantial increase of approximately $215 billion in Apple's market capitalization, propelling it to $3.2 trillion. Notably, this surge ranks among the 10 largest single-day market value increases ever recorded.

The upward trend in Apple's share price followed the company's unveiling of various artificial intelligence features scheduled for release on iPhones and other devices later in the current year. Notably, these advancements include the direct integration of OpenAI's widely popular generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, within iPhone applications.

The positive market response to Apple's artificial intelligence announcements suggests investor confidence. This is evidenced by the reversal of pre-market losses and a recovery from the modest sell-off observed during and after the keynote address at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday afternoon.

The broader technology sector exhibited limited price volatility on Tuesday, as share prices for the remaining five prominent technology corporations exceeding a market capitalization of one trillion US dollars fluctuated by less than 1%.

Apple's market capitalization surged, narrowing the gap with the leading technology company, Microsoft, to less than $50 billion. This surge also solidified Apple's position as the world's second most valuable company, surpassing Nvidia by approximately $200 billion. Notably, Nvidia had briefly held the second-place position last week.

Elon Musk raised security concerns about Apple's integration of OpenAI's software into its operating system. He expressed this concern so strongly that he threatened to prohibit Apple devices, like iPhones, from being used at his companies. This decision stems from his worries about how well this partnership would safeguard user privacy.

"If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS (operating system) level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies." Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. "That is an unacceptable security violation," and said Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI," Musk said in a separate post. “They’re selling you down the river.”

He mentioned that visitors “will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage,” referring to an enclosure that disrupts electromagnetic waves vital to communications, including cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals.

European Stoxx 600 index closed provisionally down 0.2%. Major stock exchanges had mixed performance, with most sectors in the red. Banks dropped 1%, while autos gained 1.6%.

HSBC's stock price plunged over 8% after the bank reported an 80% decline in pre-tax profits for the last quarter of 2023. This drop was due to a $3 billion charge related to its investment in a Chinese bank.

Swiss mining giant Glencore's stock price dipped 1% after the company reported a significant decline in annual profits and announced a reduced dividend.

Hong Kong's stock market surged over 3% despite mixed trading in other Asia-Pacific markets overnight. This comes after Wall Street closed lower on Wednesday. Investors in Hong Kong were digesting Japan's trade data and growing pessimism among large manufacturers in that country.

The U.S. stock market experienced losses again on Wednesday. This marked the second consecutive day of decline for the major indexes, and the primary driver of this drop was a significant price decrease in Nvidia's shares.
