“No child should experience the loss of a parent or other family member to extrajudicial killings or witness such horrific violence at the hands of police or hitmen,” said Carlos Conde, Philippines researcher. “The toll of the Philippines’ ‘drug war’ does not end with the killing of a drug suspect, but may extend to their children, often completely destroying families.”The Philippine Drug War refers to the drug policy of the Philippine government under President Rodrigo Duterte, who assumed office on June 30, 2016. According to former Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa, the policy is aimed at "the neutralization of illegal drug personalities nationwide."

The Philippine government’s brutal “war on drugs” has devastated the lives of countless children, Human Rights Watch said today in a new web feature. The United Nations Human Rights Council, whose 41st session began on June 24, 2019, in Geneva, should adopt the resolution initiated by Iceland that asks the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to report on the Philippines’ “drug war” and human rights crisis.

The web feature, “Collateral Damage: The Children of Duterte’s ‘War on Drugs,’” shares stories on the plight of several children who have suffered from the emotional, psychological, and economic impacts of the “drug war” violence. The administration of President Rodrigo Duterte should not only end the violence but provide the necessary services to mitigate the damage that abuses by the police and police-backed vigilantes have caused children who have lost parents and other family members, or witnessed extrajudicial killings.

“No child should experience the loss of a parent or other family member to extrajudicial killings or witness such horrific violence at the hands of police or hitmen,” said Carlos Conde, Philippines researcher. “The toll of the Philippines’ ‘drug war’ does not end with the killing of a drug suspect, but may extend to their children, often completely destroying families.”

"Sa paggamit ng illegal na drugs hindi ka tatanda dahil mamatay kang bata", as the saying goes, anything that is too much would be unhealthy for us. Drug addiction has been a problem not only in our country but globally.

A research about drug use even mentioned that drug addiction has been the leading cause of death among Americans.

To prevent further damage, risks, and even deaths that could be brought by drug addiction--- We should stop abusing the use of drugs and find alternatives that would be healthy not only for us but also to those that sorrounds us.

"Say no to Drugs"

Most of the drug users in the Philippines are young people. Illegal drugs that are present include ma*****na, L*D, opiates, and barbiturates. While there are no accurate statistics available, it is estimated that as many as 60,000 young people in the Philippines are dealing with drug addiction.

We believe that drugs affects our mental health and well-being. When we expand the word drug it has a positive and negative effect on our health and mind but most people focus on the negative only. There are probably many mistakes when talking about good drugs because we don't have the proper knowledge about it.
