-TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE-
Geet was diagnosed with Polio at 6 years of age. Women weren’t allowed to study or work in her family. She wasn't allowed to do the same even more because of her disability. But she was determined to achieve success.
After getting rejected from 10 schools, she finally got accepted into one, where she had no friends.
Geet's father used to threaten her to shun her. But her mother helped her with her savings and enrolled her into a college. Along with working as a telecaster, she finally graduated.
To find job, she used to walk miles in crutches, because she was unable to afford the travel expense for interviews.
After facing many rejections, she was offered a job at a bank. Her father kept threatening to send her to the village if she didn’t stop working. But she knew, that she had more to achieve in life, so she moved out and stayed with a friend.
Later she got a house on rent. She used to live there alone and tried to commit su***de because it was so hard. So, she decided to take control of her life. She quit her job, and started her own garments business.
Around that time, she got to know about the Mumbai Wheelchair Basketball team. She never played sports as a child -- so she gave it a try. She'd work through the week, and would practice with the team over the weekends.
"I never felt more free than I did, while playing on the court," she says. "No one was telling me that I couldn’t do it." Her team won on the national level as well.
Today she is running her own business, and actively pursuing wheelchair basketball, tennis, and even wrestling. She has her own house, and she is an independent woman.
Needless to say, she fought to live her dream life.
