This Wicked Fate by is the second book in the series following This Poison Heart.

If you love plants, apothecaries, Greek mythology, magic, mysteries….. this book has it ALL! It took me a minute to write this review because I’ve read this book twice lol! It was the perfect follow up!

Briseis is on a mission to bring her mother back to life to do that she has the impossible task of gathering all the pieces to the Absyrtus heart. While doing that She has to still learn all about her powers, out run her enemies racing for the same pieces of the heart, get to know the family she thought was dead…. Whew chileeeee it’s a lot. Lolol! But in a good way.
It’s a good twist on a coming of age story and I’m here for it! Definitely give this series a try! I loved This Poison heart too (listened to it on Libro.fm).

THIS IS NOT FICTION!!

All of y’all saying Welcome to Gilead like there aren’t REAL LIFE examples of sterilization and forced birth control in the last few decades. Brown women were sterilized less that 5 years ago at a detention camp in Georgia…. Y’all made a show like handmaids tale popular because you could NEVER IMAGINE someone taking your rights in real life. You walked around smiling in Red robes doing entire photoshoots glamourizing the r**e, lost of will, and torture in this show. We don’t have to welcome ourselves to a show…. We’ve lived it for generations……

3 ARCs (advance reader copies) …..3 new releases…..I wonder how far I get into this months stack! 🤞🏾 … definitely excited to read Rise to the Sun….. it’s the first YA Black le***an love story I’ve seen in a LONG time…. I normally steer towards fantasy but this stack is heavily romance influenced…. let’s see how it goes!

How diverse is your child’s bookshelf? We talk a lot about how children are shaped during adolescence but we never address how big a part just showing them diverse characters plays a part in that too. ��Yes, your child seeing themselves described in books, shown in picture books is absolutely something they need. But what they need more is to know that their imagery is NOT ALL THAT EXISTS. �
YOU ARE NOT RAISING WELL READ CHILDREN IF ALL THEY KNOW ARE WHITE AUTHORS.

It’s not enough anymore, it actually never has been enough, to raise children that fit into your small town community.

The voice your child reads should be more diverse than the few blocks of their neighborhood. They should know/see various, skin tones, bodies, abilities, from as many varying lens as possible. Not just the voice that reflects their own. ��The goal should never be raising children that “fit” in…. We should be raising children that have the courage and knowledge to STAND OUT. Let’s make the goal to raise well read, GLOBAL citizens. Let’s show them various, cultures, bodies, orientations, skin tones, lifestyles in as many ways, from as many voices as we possibly can……even if the only way we can do that, is from a book.❤️

This….. is 10 😭😭 He’s TEN YALL!!!!!!

He had doctor’s appointment early this morning and a small surgery Thursday … but still was happy that he’s a whole BIG TEN TODAY !! Born….. 02/22/12 and celebrating 10 on 02/22/2022!
He still doesn’t know what he wants for his birthday. The last thing was wanting to take the Rv to New Mexico for a week let’s see what we can come up with 🤣🤣

I thought long and hard the last few days about what I want my “word” to be outside of intentional for this year…… and I realized a word can’t sum up the emotional, and VERY personal journey I plan to take going forward.

The information I hold isn’t less valuable because of my following. The space I hold in various communities isn’t calculated by engagement.

My labor isn’t less because of who will see it. So when you approach me….come correct…..

I’m on this journey where I not only know my worth ….. but loudly, proudly, WITHOUT HESITATION …..DEMAND it.

Y’all. My kids…. Are dope af…. She has been my joy today. The moment I came home from work….She kissed me and said “Mommy, I spent my money on some bobble heads, can you loan me some money and tell me I don’t have to pay it back” 🥲 ….. I’m so happy to know she missed me. 🥲

I’ve been determined to journal at least 3 times a week and I’ve kept it up the last month. It’s truly helped me get through this mental low I’ve been in and helped me even unpack more things I’d buried from childhood.
I don’t really have a profound message to round this out, other than if you’re feeling low, I see you I’m here if you need an ear …..

Especially when people are being excluded from parts of it under the guise that “America” (The United States) doesn’t want them here. Haiti, Mexico……are all part of the Americas…..they ARE Americans.
