Mitchell Area Winter weather Winter weather alerts and advisories

22/03/2024

This winter/spring storm coming is a major storm.. instead of trying to be the one to get the snowfall amounts correct I would encourage you all to be prepared in the regards that we might lose power.. and if you do it might be a while before power is restored. Heavy wet snow and freezing rain and high winds would be a significant impact on power outages so be prepared with food, water, warm clothing and blankets and a reliable light source.. with that being said we will get snow rain and a mix.. Mitchell area as of now and this will change is looking to get around 10” or so and could change.. stay tuned and be prepared and be safe

Something to watch out for

Looking like 5-8” of snow on Christmas Day and evening thru Tuesday.. timing is the key with when the temps get below freezing.. ground is still warm and ice will be a factor before the snow hits.. drive with extra caution and allow extra time to get where you need to be and change plans accordingly.. remember that storm is still a day out.. also first real snow of the season so the reality of not driving on snow and ice since last year is always something to keep in mind.. drive with caution and stay safe.. Merry Christmas…stay tuned for further updates

Something to keep an eye on.. lots could change between now and then.. just depends on if the track of the storm shifts slightly to the east could be well over a foot.. also depends on how soon the temps cool off.. also be prepared for icing with possible power outages due to falling tree limbs ect.. might be a good time to prepare for the worst as winter storms are very hard to predict.. gas up vehicles.. Have flashlights ready.. blankets.. pet food.. and food that don’t require cooking handy just in case power is out for a few days.. not saying it will but there’s a possibility with the rain that will start before the snow hits.. stay safe

With temps well below freezing our ice chances have dropped…which is a good thing…I’d expect around 3” of snow in the Mitchell and surrounding areas with the majority of the snow starting around 2-3 this afternoon..

04/03/2022

Looking like 2-3 inches of snow in the Mitchell area.. one thing to be aware of is the possibility of ice before the snow starts..a lot of things could change how much and where at the ice begins but I’ll be monitoring these as they begin to develop.. stay tuned
