Different window, different view, different place to work today.
My son attended a half-day course today in Bridlington and it made no sense for me to be driving backwards & forwards between Hornsea and Bridlington.
So I decided to work from the Bridlington North library, whilst he was attending his course elsewhere in town. Found a great table to spread out my papers and books, and had a very enjoyable few hours thinking, brainstorming, reading, with no digital distractions. Calming music in my ears. Reasonable drinks machine. Parking.
We have a lovely library here in Hornsea, 10 minutes very pleasant walk away, so today reminded me that it would be nice to do a similar thing and occasionally work from the library for a change of scene, especially for the type of work I was doing today. It felt like quite a treat to be honest.
I was brainstorming my marketing for my new Stitchery Courses directory and felt like I made some good solid progress.
Do you grab the opportunity to work away from your 'usual' desk / office?
Where do you prefer to work?
Have a great weekend,
cheers Sue ###
Really loving my new ergonomic mouse the Logitech Lift
I've tried others over the years and wasn't that keen on them, but this one is lovely. Paired with the padded mousemat, these 2 are the best combo yet for me.
Over the years I've edited so many podcast episodes and edited so many online course videos particularly screen recorded tech ones., and done a lot of 'mousing'. The last few months I've had to admit to myself that I was getting warning aches and pains in my right hand.
And this has prompted a massive re-think in my business, also prompted by hitting the big 6 0 next year. So it's much more than a new mouse!
I'm re-building my business, and determined to do things differently. And so a different venture for me is building upon my podcast foundations and developing new ways to serve and support my audience, whilst creating a more simple business for me. There's a lot of 'different' activity and choices going on in the background at the moment, even though I've been quiet over here.
Enter STITCHERY COURSES
a unique quality directory of expert teachers who teach stitching, making, crafting & creativity with fabric & thread. Organised so that the enthusiasts who want to learn from them can FIND THEM faster & easier than endless searching through the internet.
Doors open tomorrow, 19th March.
Most of the action will be happening on my profile, as I bring my podcast and directory closer together, entertaining and serving the same audience.
And if you teach topics with fabric & thread.... things like embroidery, textile art, quilting, sewing, dressmaking, felting, weaving.......
please do say hello and pop over to the new stitcherycourses website. Link in bio / comments
EXCITED!

For once (!) I actually did some christmas crafting!
The orange & purple elf was made in October 'cos it was taking part in the Hornsea Elf Trail. It spent December hiding in the wine shop.
And whilst I was making that, my young adult son decided he wanted to make one so made the head and body then it sat around waiting for some clothes!
He realised that an 'elf on the shelf' jumper would fit his elf, so a couple of weeks ago i set to and made the trousers, boots, gloves and hat. I think it has snowboarder vibes!
Anyway, now they are sat together, I feel like we have made 'mini-me' elves.
What do you think?

Last task for the Hornsea Elf Trail that I've been organising these last few months.
Sorting out the prizes for tonight's Prize Draw!
Members of Hornsea Collective made elves that represented our business in some way. They were hidden around town to make a trail and people had to find words which made a phrase.
I enjoyed making the cheeky orange & purple one!
I'll be reporting on what we did and the benefits of it later on but tonight is the FINALE.
There has been a LOT of work gone into getting this up and running.
Even closing it down has taken several hours.
Visiting the Collection Box venues and collecting the submitted entry forms.
Checking them.
And chasing up prizes.... did we have all that were promised? Where are they?
Then writing out a note for each one, folding it up and collecting into a bag so we can pull out a prize then a winning entry form. There's 30 mins of my life I'll never get again!
Sod's Law and I have a dreadful cold so sorting all this out today has felt like wading through treacle AND I'm not even going to the social gathering afterwards so I keep my germs at home. Groan.
Initial feedback is that shop owners have seen new people visiting their shops for the first time ever and excited about what lovely places we have in Hornsea that they hadn't bothered to visit previously.
Kids have had fun finding the elves.
Business owners with or without premises have also seen an increase in online traffic through their Google Business Profile which was also one of the objectives of this.
But right now I'm off to blow my nose, snort up and gargle salt water and have a nice hot bath.
Goodbye Elves!

Lovely NetWalking yesterday organised by Small Business Britain along The Humber and into Hull.
It's networking whilst walking along. So friendly and chatty. No elevator pitches needed, and an enjoyable way to escape the office at home and get plenty of fresh air and meet new people.
Oh and at the end as a treat, it's time for free coffee and cake - BONUS! (kindly aid for by BT as part of their support to Small Business Britain)
Such a special comment...... get the sick bucket out....
and if you want fashion and styling tips from me...
don't brush your hair,
of course no makeup,
cram on a hat
plus add your hood
and wander about in the freezing rain and wind...
job done! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I finally got round to editing a really lovely episode of Stitchery Stories yesterday. And recording an update for the guest 'cos I'd taken soooo long to get on with this episode.
Of course it was the day for random challenges - guest initially couldn't hear me, then we had a dreadful time lag and then echo... however we got all that sorted and off we launched into a quick update.
All was going fab UNTIL.... I realised I hadn't unpaused the recording aaaarrrggghh
Actually we couldn't stop laughing, so just sat there giggling for ages, pulled ourselves together and started again... with the recording actually on this time!
Just a bit of production work and post creation then it's good to go!
Going to really crack on with the podcast next year so it finally 'pays its way'!
I'll post the final production here too 'cos there were some cracking business leaps made by my guest when she finally made getting help a priority for her.

So easy to get sucked into all the hype, FOMO, and very persuasive marketing written by expert teams, planned for months!
Your pounds are barely noticed by large business
BUT
Your pounds are CRUCIAL to small business survival
We notice every purchase.
And same goes for business owners like me.
I run a virtual business, provide expert training with tons of personal support, and yet people go and join large 'guru' courses with far less support and getting lost in the crowded 'community'.
So whether your choice is local shops or large multinational ecommerce websites,
Or solo entrepreneurs vs large online gurus
We love it when you look beyond the hype and support local and small business owners.
We truly do a happy dance when your money pops into our bank account!

when your hobby and your business collide it's totally fab!
I've been creating courses for a very long time!
This memory popped up today from 13 years ago when I was creating a course!
I haven't a clue what course it was.... I was living in France at the time and had recently started my online business, specialising in video marketing... a rather new thing back then!
Video editing tools were slow, clunky, expensive.
Bloody hard to do anything.
Same for creating graphics.
And smartphones were just becoming more available.
BUT you certainly COULD NOT EDIT VIDEOS on them!
I've been sharing stuff about learning how to create videos on your smartphone all week! Yes, I'm selling a course on using a free video making app called CapCut.
I know my stuff, I've been doing this for years.
Tech training is my superpower. I've created loads of courses.
In fact, my training has been changing lives and businesses since 1996 when I started teaching apprentices how to program on a mainframe computer!
I LOVE technology.
I LOVE teaching people how to use it to get a better job, better clients, better business through having better skills.
You might hate it - but if you need to become more visible in your business by using video then I can teach you - step by step, with clear bite-sized training.
You'll learn how to use a fab FREE app that can give your business a massive boost when you create marketing videos with it.
I'm cheering you on
and there's a £50 discount if you are quick!

A bright bouquet to brighten your day!
I was given these yesterday by a friend for helping her to organise a lovely surprise evening out to celebrate a milestone birthday for a truly wonderful bloke!
Ooo the stress of tracking down guests, secret organising, juggling dates and most problematic of all was the birthday boy....
Was so chuffed when he actually turned up at the right place at the right time and ....
Loved it all once he had got over the shock!
Enjoy your day ###
Flash Sale coming... but with a twist!
You get to choose which course gets the big discount!
Grab a bargain and learn the skills you need to help you be MORE VISIBLE and MARKET YOUR BUSINESS!
So far its pretty much a tie between:
1. learning how to make fun & easy videos on your phone
2. create it all in Canva - images, docs, presentations, videos
Which one do you want?
Message me.

Some fun creativity this weekend which also contributes to a local marketing project! Surely that's a WIN WIN isn't it?
I'm a member of .collective Hornsea Collective a suportive group of local Hornsea small creative businesses, and indie shops and local traders.
This year we are running an Elf On The Shelf themed seasonal event to encourage more Christmas shopping footfall in our High Street and to also provide fopportunities for those of us without premises.
I'l be sharing more details of the actual Elf On The Shelf project in later videos but for now we are encouraging members to make an elf, which will sit in the shops run by our members. We will be tapping into strong local online marketing too - again, more on that in later posts!
Anyway I offered to make an elf and it's going to be a custom elf in my brand colours of orange & purple. So on Saturday afternoon I walked into town to see what useful craft materials I could find, which would then determine exactly what style of elf I would make.
Got a great haul of stuff, so dashed off home, said sod it to the housework, grabbed a cuppa, and then got cracking! My record on making Christmas themed craft is worse than pathetic... so there is a lot at stake here YIKES.
I'm super happy with what I have created so far. And my teen son was even intrigued enough to start making his own style of elf, which is a victory over online gaming albeit short lived no doubt.
His is actually a skeleton style character....
Anyway, here's the progress so far.

Weekend walk along a section of East Yorkshire Coastal Path.
Fabulous dramatic chalk cliff scenery from Sewerby via Danes D**e, Flamborough South Landing, to Flamborough Head and then onward back to the car park at Flamborough North Landing, and also Thornwick Bay.
Parked at North Landing, then caught the bus down to Sewerby then walked back along the clifftop path. Around 11km and a perfect day for walking.... until the fog came down just past Flamborough Head and we could hardly see a thing as we returned to North Landing.
So great to get away from the office, the keyboard and to clear my brain!
What did you get upto over the weekend?
I'm working on a new offer this week so as ever... tons to do!
Cheers, Sue ###

Always exciting to be invited to speak.
Thursday I was speaking at the Aura building at Bridgehead Business Park, with the lovely SWIISH women's networking group.
"Course Power : How creating an online course can scale your business and save your sanity"
And it's fab to answer questions and see so many excited faces when they have an idea 💡
Before that enjoyed a breakfast networking meeting in the centre of Hull meeting fellow members of the FSB federation of small businesses
And stopped off for a walk and some peace and quiet at the Humber Bridge Country Park in between each event! What could be better?
What opportunities do you have this week to 'get out there', meet new people and get visible?
Sue ###
YAY is 10 years old! Wow they truly were the 'game changer' when they created Canva so anyone could easily create graphics and now an increasing amount of fabulous 'stuff'. It's a fabulous story of determination from the 3 founders.
I would be lost without using on a daily basis for my small business and for creating content and my online courses.
And whilst its easy to start poking about in Canva - there are so many cool tips and tricks to up-level your designs and save a ton of time. So many times I show people how to do something in Canva and they are amazed cos they had been wasting so much time and getting frustrated 'cos they didn't know how to use it properly.
So last year I combined my techy training superpowers plus my years of Canva experience, and created my easy to follow, well-structured online course:
Create It All In Canva.
So come on and treat yourself to some proper Canva training!

Today I was invited to speak within The Savvy Shay Business Club community - a fabulous legal knowledge membership from such an exciting honour!
yes about my fave topic.... online courses & digital products.
"Course Power: How creating an online course can scale your business and save your sanity'
Wow got loads of great questions & comments whilst it was on (and I hope I answered them all - it's easy to miss some 'in the moment'!)
And then just a couple of minutes later this fab comment popped up in the FB group.
Honestly, it makes everything so worthwhile when our efforts help & inspire other business owners. And that it's so enjoyable too!
I'm presenting this in real life too in Hull in early September, and I'm thinking I need to make it into a video ASAP! I'd better add it to the list :-)
If this training sounds right up your street... drop me a message and I'll let you know when it's available on my website.
And in the meantime - in my Learning Centre & Blog on my website there are tons of FREE resources around online courses.... in my down-to-earth style... NO B.S. HERE!
And whilst it's still sunny... I'm off to celebrate by sitting in the garden with a super cold glass of wine.
Happy Monday ###
It's the end of the week - WHAT ARE YOU CELEBRATING!
My celebration this morning 'cos Fitbit Fitbit UK & Ireland informed me that I had walked 8,851 kilometers since December 27, 2019. That's apparently the same distance as The Great Wall Of China!
YAY Me!
I had a nice early morning walk to the pool, had a good 30 mins swim (40 x 25m lengths) then walked home to get on with my day.
Just like anything else we do, every step, every piece of work all adds up into something amazing.
Let's all cheer each other on!
Sue ###
Got my podcaster hat on today (as well as the rain hat lol)
Since the weather is so awful this morning, what better time than to start the editing and podcast production process for the latest Stitchery Stories textile art podcast? And this guest has been sat patiently waiting in the wings for a few months now...
This episode is a perfect intersection for me.
Chatting with a textile artist about how she has really gone 'all in' with creating online courses rather than time-sucking time-for-money in-person classes.
In fact she has gone a step further and developed a successful and lovely creative membership.
More about this episode and guest when it's done!
Bye for now,
Sue ###
World Embroidery Day today - what are you stitching today?
Or any type of creativity if embroidery isn't your thing?
This is a piece from a couple of years ago inspired by the lyrics and song, "Bonfire Heart" by James Blunt.
I'm going to do a bit more on a folk-style fabric collage of a dragonfly I started a couple of weeks ago.... when I was supposed to be creating a garden bird!
But first I'm off for a walk, hopefully dodging the rain showers!
Cheers, Sue ###

Just the sea and sunrise doing their thing this morning here at #hornsea #eastyorkshirecoast First run for a month this morning since I've been ill with the Christmas lurgy. So worth it to get up and give it a go. It's like a disaster zone along the seafront because of flooding and overtopping from the massive waves of the last couple days. The road is closed covered in rocks stones mud debris. The areas not covered in sludge are frozen. So it was a slow potter along, enjoying the beautiful but bloody cold morning. Then home for a hot bath so I could warm up! Who needs to be moaning about so called blue Monday!!! Have a lovely day. Yay 2000 canva designs created! I was working on the Hornsea Elf Trail yesterday when this popped up in Canva. Plenty of images created for just that project... Entry form Postcards for each elf and venue With varying combos of elf photos, elf cartoons, words or qr codes... Poster for 4 entry form collection box venues All will be revealed next week. And of course, I use Canva EVERYDAY for creating social media posts, editing photos presentations, documents, quick graphic videos....the list is endless. Confident Canva skills as well as confidence in creating a variety of styles of video are CRUCIAL skills for online course creators, or pretty much any online business thesedays. Tech training is my superpower so you don't need to struggle with canva anymore. And whilst I do sell separate courses in Canva and Capcut (for mobile video editing) I will be bundling those into my revamped online course creation experience launching early 2024. 👀👀👀 So keep an eye out and of course any questions just drop me a dm OK it's time to crack on with my todo list! Fun with Lego animal sculptures at @sewerbyhall after Parkrun on Saturday. Crickey it was hot... not even the usual cooling breeze along the clifftops. So it was great to try and cool down afterwards by walking through the grounds and stop and look at the various Lego sculptures we had just run past. Sewerby parkrun is brilliant. Always something to look at as we run along the clifftops, then past Sewerby Hall, and through the gardens, and the final woodland section too. Some fabulous volunteers celebrating 500 volunteering parkruns wow. And then on the way home we decided to stop off at @mr_moos_icecream for a post-parkrun treat. Yummy. Escaped the desk on Bank Holiday Monday and went exploring a few miles away from home. Walked from the Tophill Low nature reserve , north along the banks of the River Hull through peaceful rural East Yorkshire. It's always fab to explore somewhere close to home. I love it here. And now its back to the desk and computer, as the months rushes to its end and September beckons! What's the number one thing you must get done this week? I've got a new video series to put online and share. The 5 foundations of a successful online course. This always gets a good response when I deliver it live so now it's going online for a global audience! Enjoy your week! Sue ###
Got my podcaster hat on today (as well as the rain hat lol) Since the weather is so awful this morning, what better time than to start the editing and podcast production process for the latest Stitchery Stories textile art podcast? And this guest has been sat patiently waiting in the wings for a few months now... This episode is a perfect intersection for me. Chatting with a textile artist about how she has really gone 'all in' with creating online courses rather than time-sucking time-for-money in-person classes. In fact she has gone a step further and developed a successful and lovely creative membership. More about this episode and guest when it's done! Bye for now, Sue ### #onlinecoursecreation #howtocreateanonlinecourse #onlinecoursecreator #stitcherystories #stitcherystoriespodcast #textileartpodcast #embroiderypodcast #textileart #embroidery #creativepodcast #sewingpodcast #sewingpodcaster #embroiderypodcaster #podcastersofinstagram #podcasterlife
Want your business to be the top-listed Media Company?
I’m here to help you. Perhaps you would like to learn more about me. Discover the story behind ‘The Missing Training?’
How often have you spent frustrating hours trying to learn how to use some online program or app that will be helpful for your business. Trawling through the help files and knowledge base or turning to YouTube. Only to find badly created ‘so called’ training materials and resources, pulled together by people whose super power is NOT the ability to teach ‘techy stuff’. They may know what they are doing BUT they can not teach it and pass on their knowledge in a useful way.
So you either gave up your plan to use that program or app, or still struggle with using it now with the annoying knowledge that you are not using it to its full potential.
Such a waste of your time, and a waste of your mental energy too.
It’s not your fault! There is an important difference between HELP and TRAINING. Most of what is available to help you learn online programs and apps and tools and techy stuff is actually structured as HELP. It answers a specific question. It explains specific things.
BUT help isn’t training. You need an overview to put everything into context, that shows you the overall route, the general idea of what you are trying to achieve. Then the topic needs to be broken down into a structured learning path that guides you through theory and into practice and application. That is what effective training provides.
And so I have been changing my business to focus on my love for, and skills in, providing online training in the typical and popular online programs and apps that online business owners need and use today.
I want to provide you with ‘the missing training’... the training that you search for, that you desire, but which you rarely find.
Let me explain.
Technology and Training have been the 2 strong foundations to my professional career spanning over 30 years. I started at Nissan as a graduate entry mainframe computer programmer working on all sorts of fascinating and complex manufacturing systems. I’m a fast learner but struggled in those first few weeks. The trainer knew his stuff BUT couldn’t teach programming to someone who had done very little ‘proper’ programming. I vowed that I never wanted anyone to struggle like that, and my passionate interest in developing my training skills began.
Fast forward through my career, and the training I created enabled the company I was working for to expand quickly. I created and grew the training function, recruited and trained internal trainers. I taught experienced IT professionals the specific programming language our clients used to run their banking systems. I taught programming skills in India as well as teaching programming and mentoring Morgan Stanley IT graduate trainees. Three extremes of environment and students!
Then I took a career break! But for the last 10 years I have been self-employed, using the power and opportunity provided by the internet to work with global clients. I have provided implementation services and consultancy in a range of specialisms. Video marketing. Content creation. Email marketing. Internet marketing & Search Engine Optimisation. Latterly I have focused on podcasting under the name of PodcastProgress, providing podcasting services and consultancy. Oh and let’s not forget my role as podcaster, creator and host of the globally popular podcast called Stitchery Stories. Let’s add all things podcasting and audio editing skills to the mix as well.
My career then turned once again back to training as I was invited to be one of 5 global mentors for the international freelancer training company now known as Freelance University (aka FreeU or FreelanceU, and formerly known as VAClassroom). I had been a student of theirs for many years, since my online journey began back in 2009. Whilst chatting with the founder one day, he realised I had extensive experience in technology training and asked me to be their online technology trainer. They are now a client of mine, and I create practical, well structured and popular training courses for them, releasing several per year. Let’s add online course creation, with of course the associated video creation and editing skills required, into my wide range of skills too!
Back in 2019 I decided that I wanted to develop my business away from service provision, and towards the creation and sale of online courses and related advice & consultancy. To combine all of my skills and career experience and build a business with sustainable revenue streams that don’t stop if I take a holiday :-)
I have large and growing catalog of courses ready for sale. And tons of ideas for plenty more as I observe the daily struggles that small business owners, ‘micropreneurs’, solo professionals have with adopting and learning the online technology that their business needs to flourish.
As the new year of 2020 started, I have been working towards creating my new business model. Building the pieces, developing the messaging.
And then March 2020 the global pandemic of corona virus covid-19 struck, the financial damage is affecting freelancers with swift and vicious effect. More than ever before, people are looking to the power of the internet to try and continue to earn a living and build a business. I have the skills and knowledge to help. I have pushed forward my launch, and this page is the first visible facet of my new brand. Although I registered the domain for TheMissingTraining.com ages ago, I haven’t built the website yet. It will have to wait a while longer!
Seeing that people are wondering how to adapt their business or service to work more online, and wondering where to start, I have offered training in how to use Zoom, a popular video conferencing service. People are interested so I am now in rapid creation and launch mode.
I wanted you to understand that I haven’t just decided to ‘hang out my shingle’ (as they say) as a trainer. I have many years of varied experience as you will know after reading this story. I was doing this anyway. I was nearly ready to launch. So I am leaping into action to help people as fast as I can, as we all struggle to make sense of this global madness.
If you need help, or have questions, for now the best way to reach me is just message me here in Facebook.
I’m looking forward to helping you. Are you ready to get started?
