It looks like we aren't getting that movie theater at Robinson Gateway, which is north of Publix on Moccasin Wallow. They're submitting changes for it to be a hospital instead, among other modifications.

Trevesta is getting another commercial project and Buffalo Creek Middle is getting a new building. Heaps of new home communities are coming online as well.

Corporate Ladder Brewing Company, which is about to celebrate their fourth year in business, is in the middle of upgrading their outdoor "Beer Garden" seating area. The picnic tables and pavers are gone. The soggy summertime grass has been replaced with artificial turf. All new tables and chairs doubled the the number of seats. Giant umbrellas provide plenty of shade and built-in lights automatically come on when the sun goes down.

They're still working on a fence, additional parking and plants. Future plans include an outdoor bar, mural and sound system!

These improvements are great, but what about the beer? I recently had the opportunity to speak with co-owner Blake Kleppe about his brewery. Corporate Ladder's most popular beers are fruit sours, stouts, and IPA's. Depending on the beer, the brewing process can take anywhere from 2-weeks to 2-years, but most are ready within a month.

Business is good. New batch of to-go beer ready? Sold out. Seriously, the brewery has a loyal following. If you're interested in to-go beers, you need to follow their Facebook or Instagram to get notified when new brews drop. Sometimes these batches are sold out in less than a minute after released online.

When COVID-19 hit, the brewery did away with refillable growlers. Now they have crowlers, which are are giant, 32 oz. cans. These beasts are filled from tap, then sealed with a special sealing machine. The cans keep UV light at bay and protect the brew from oxygen, which makes it last much longer than a growler.

There's no food at the brewery, but they regularly have food trucks and the popular TK Grill restaurant is right next door.

Curious about the construction behind the 7-Eleven on Moccasin Wallow Rd? Wonder no more, because it's build-to-rent homes called Christopher Todd Communities At Artisans Lakes.

192 newly designed single-story homes will be built on almost 21 acres. One-bedroom and two-bedroom homes are expected to range from approximately 750-1,050 square feet.

Before we get started, let’s define an authentic Mexican taco, because it’s different than a typical American taco. A real Mexican taco is two small tortillas, usually corn, with seasoned meat, onions, cilantro, and a lime squeezed on top.

Dollar General and H&H Nail & Spa recently opened at the Trevesta Shopping Center on 69th St E at Buffalo Rd. Additional retail stores are under construction, including Dunkin Donuts, which may open in April, and The UPS Store, which may open in June.

The UPS Store owner also operates the Parrish and downtown Palmetto locations. This new location incorporates The UPS Store’s new and modern store design that was unveiled in 2020, which offers a more seamless in-store customer experience.

Future shopping plaza tenants include a pool supply store, medical office, restaurant, dentist, daycare, and martial arts facility.

Manatee County is planning a traffic signal at the intersection of 69th St E and Buffalo Rd. Eventually Buffalo Rd. will connect all the way south to Mendoza Rd. (37th St E).

The Smokin’ Pig BBQ food truck found a permanent home next to Turner’s Produce Market at the northwest corner of US-41 and 69th St E, next to Uppy’s Shell station. They serve pulled pork, brisket, St. Louis ribs, smoked chicken, sausage, and more.

Smokin’ Pig BBQ also has brick & mortar locations in Riverview and Lithia. The owner also runs The Hot Tomato restaurants in Ruskin and Riverview, along with The Garden inside of Turner’s Produce Market that sells Cuban sandwiches and pies.
